All set for the 6th Annual PRAU Excellence Awards

prau-awards

All is set for the 6th Annual PRAU Excellence Awards that will be held on Friday 25th November at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala. The awards, organised by the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU), will award top PR agencies, professionals and corporations that have excelled in the execution of PR, digital and communications functions over the last one year.

This year the PRAU Excellence Awards have been organised under the theme “PR Excellence in a Competitive & Digital World”. The theme captures the current reality facing many public relations professionals and agencies that have found themselves in a very competitive environment given the harsh economic times companies are operating in as well as the fight for more customers by these same companies.

“We have witnessed increased competition in the public relations industry with more and more companies keen to sustain a good image in the eyes of their stakeholders. However company resources to support this has not come easily with more professionals citing budget cuts forcing them to scale back on public relations activities or cancel them all together” said the PRAU President Ms. Cynthia Mpanga.

Digital media has also been on the rise affecting the way the public relations industry operates. With the proliferation of social media, a bad customer experience can turn into a full blown public relations crisis thanks to citizen journalism that has given more power to the public.

However digital media has also provided faster and cheaper alternatives in promoting various brands in a positive light and therefore this has worked in the favour of public relations professionals. According to Paul Mwirigi, the PRAU PR Director, “Social media has been a double edged sword within the public relations industry. It has been a challenge balancing the positives and the negatives that comes with new technology. However it is here to stay and the public relations industry needs to come to terms with that so that they can make the most out of it”.

This year the PRAU Excellence Awards has received enormous support from a host of companies with twenty corporations providing in kind and cash support.  “In a special way I want to thank all PRAU members who have ensured their companies participate in the awards in one way or the other. You are heroes and our association needs each one of you. Please let’s all ensure we participate and attend the Awards Gala,” said Cynthia Mpanga.

Confirmed sponsors include: NBS, UMEME, MTN, New Vision, NTV, Jazz FM, Brandsmadetolast, Radio One, Fireworks Advertising, Hot 100 FM, Nile Breweries, BBS TV, Coca-Cola, Bank of Uganda, Knight Frank Uganda, Blue Cube, MPK Graphics, Galaxy FM, UBC TV & Hedge Uganda.

The 2016 PRAU Excellence Awards will be presented in the following categories:

Category A: PR Campaign Category which includes Best Media Management Campaign, Best Event, Best Crisis Management Campaign, Best Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign, Best Public Sector Campaign, Best Not for Profit Campaign and the coveted Best PR Agency.

Category B: Supplementary Category which includes Best Corporate/Online Publication, Best Social/Digital Media Campaign and the Best Young Communicator of the Year. Finally the Category C which is an Honorary Category (awarded by the PRAU Governing Council) includes the PRAU Golden Honors & PRAU Sheppard Honors. The People’s Choice Award is an open category where the winner is voted through the public.

The Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) is the umbrella public relations body of Uganda and the PRAU Excellence Awards celebrates the greatest achievements and innovations across the public relations industry in Uganda. They are open to PR and communications practitioners, business enterprises, SMEs, government bodies, PR agencies, NGO’s, students pursuing PR related courses and in-house PR departments.

The 2016 PRAU Excellence Awards submissions, which were opened on 1 st October and closed on 11 th November, 2016, will be judged by an independent panel of senior practitioners who will deliver the results with clear explanations for each winner, making it one of the most credible professional awards in the region.

With the main objectives of the awards being to uplift the standards in the public relations industry these awards go a long way to promoting the public relations profession in the country.

Judith Heard and Sylvia Owori

Longtime rivals, socialite Judith Heard and fashion guru Sylvia Owori have been reunited. The two former colleagues reunited early this week and appear to have buried the hatchet, ending their beef that has spanned several years.

According to Owori, they were brought together by SK Mbuga’s wedding which is happening this weekend. The two had been hired as stylists for the soon-to-be wedded couple, and thus had to forge a new friendship to make the deal work. “We have reunited in the names of SK Mbuga and Angella Birungi wedding,” Owori said.

Judith Heard, nonetheless, expressed excitement that she can finally work again with her former mentor. “I am glad we are finally re-united,” she said.

Their beef had been marked by a lot of name-calling, and came close to getting physical when Sylvia Owori insulted Judith Heard saying she had had “Test tube babies”.

1. 1987: “How’d you two meet?” “I saw her at a bar one night and went up to say hello. Been together ever since!”

2016: “How’d you two meet?” “I swiped right on his Tinder picture at a bar one night. Been together ever since!”

2. That sense of hopeful possibility when you saw a blinking answering machine light is gone forever, replaced by the somehow more anxiety-producing three-dot “he’s texting” notification.

3. Movies used to be a cheap date. Now, if you want dinner and have to pay the sitter, you may need to call and get your credit limit raised.

4. When you broke up back then, “we can still be friends” had no reference to Facebook.

5. Photos posted on dating sites are actually slightly less reliable than squinting at someone in a dark bar after a couple of drinks.

6. You no longer wear matching jean jackets (yours: bedazzled, his: plain) to the movie theater and split a giant popcorn on your first date. But now you can wear matching SoulCycle tees while streaming Netflix and sharing ordered-in sushi. That’s sort of the same thing, right?

7. If a guy was interested, he called you on a landline to talk and ask you out on a date. Now, if a guy is interested, he drunk texts you on a Friday night. (Sad, but true.)

8. If only you could still throw your frizzy hair up into a scrunchy for a date, and have it be totally hot. If only.

9. After breaking up, you could be totally busted for your stalking tendencies if he caught you driving by his house in your best friend’s car. Now, you can be safe in your rage at his new life, thanks to social media.

10. The John Cusack days of holding a boom box outside your window are over. Because holding up a tiny pink Beats Pill stereo just doesn’t have the same effect.

11. The box full of love letters underneath your bed is now the texts you will never delete, even when your storage gets crazy full.

12. Take heart: You would never have met your wonderful husband back in the 90s, because his social media personality? Kinda dweeby.

13. First dates no longer exist. After checking out Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, you’re at date number three by the time you actually meet.

14. The biggest obstacle in your relationship is having no Wi-Fi connection.

15. Then: Receiving a mixtape was a sign that someone was really into you. Now: If he likes your new profile picture on Facebook, it means you two are basically married.

11 Reasons Dating A Divorced Dude Is A Great Idea

$
0
0

Couple enjoying dinner

1. He has a demonstrated ability to commit.

Sure, his last relationship didn’t work out, but at least you know he finds the concept of growing old and growing ear hair with the same woman not just un-terrifying, but downright desirable. You’re not going to wake up next to him after six perfect dates and discover he has “a philosophical issue with the institution” or some other well-rehearsed iteration of “Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man.”

2. He’s likely an optimist.

Divorce sucks, yet there’s a decent chance that he endured it because he knew deep down that something better was on the other side—possibly you. Gotta love that.

3. Divorced guys try harder.

See reason #2 for reference. No one wants to go through that twice if he can help it.

4. He’s got a signature dish.

Every dude knows women love a guy who can cook. Even if he’s no Food Network star, he’ll have at least one meal—with more than one course—that doesn’t involve the microwave that he’s been practicing on every woman he’s dated since his breakup. That means you’ll get a good meal out of it at the very least.

5. You’re getting Guy, 2.0.

Your predecessor test drove the beta version and worked out a lot of the bugs. Whether it’s how to be open about his feelings, not to leave his grubby stubble in the sink, or the value of furniture that’s not made of milk crates, you benefit from his exes’ efforts. (A thank you note, however, is unnecessary.)

6. His big regrets are your best friends.

No doubt there are mistakes he will be very, very careful not to make again. Practice makes (something somewhat less far from) perfect.

7. He doesn’t expect perfect.

No one should, of course, but more than a few Prince Charmings have walked down the aisle with delusions that his bride was the perfect mashup of Disney princesses. Now he’s learned that we’ve all got our ugly stepsister moments—which is a lot more realistic.

8. And you get points simply for not being her.

If that marriage of his ended badly, you are a miracle, an angel, a revelation. Simply because you didn’t do—and won’t, right?—the exact crappy thing she did. And even if they’re still friends, or have to deal with each other for some reason, it’s a safe bet she still can push his buttons in a hot second. You don’t even know where those buttons are yet. Total win for you, especially since he’s even more likely to cut you some slack. At least for a while.

9. You know he’s not infertile.

If he has children, that is. Plus, you get to preview what kind of a dad he’d be. Try before you buy!

10. He’s in full possession of all his baggage.

All men—whether they’ve been married or not—drag around an entire American Tourister luggage set. But divorced guys are at least aware of it, which goes a long way. Plus they tend to be more accepting of the teeny, tiny little carry on you might also be toting around.

11. Divorced guys really do move on.

Especially if they have someone who makes them much happier to move on with.

8 Tips To Help You Catch Your Partner In The Act Of Cheating

$
0
0

couple

Cheating is something that has become commonplace in the world of today and the reasons can be attributed to a number of things.

Identifying a cheating partner is particularly hard as a lot of people have become good at hiding their cheating ways. While it is hard to determine who cheats more among men and women, a cheating partner can be identified through a number of behavioural changes including dressing well, taking extra care of his or herself, acting weird and having a new seductive fragrance.

It is important to pay particular attention to certain things that can help you detect whether your partner is cheating or not. If you ever suspect that your partner may be cheating on you and you are interested in catching them red-handed, here are a number of things you should pay particular attention to.

1. Check Their Trash Can
A good place to detect and collect information that may tell you whether your partner is cheating or not is the thrash can. This is because it will contain a lot of discarded and disposed information which can provide you with clues regarding their whereabouts and activities.
You can take it a step further by also checking the recycle bins of their laptops from time to time for any deleted messages and files that may provide you with the information you need.

2. Check Their Phone
If your partner is the type that takes their phones everywhere and want to keep it as far away from you as possible, they may be cheating on you. Pay particular attention to their call logs and messages as they will most likely provide you with information regarding the things they are doing when you’re not around.

3. Keyloggers
Keyloggers are a type of computer software that can monitor all the inputs into a computer system. The app is available and can be downloaded on to your partners phone discreetly and without their knowledge. They can help you keep track of both his computer activities and phone logs and you can get any information you need from there. which monitors every input down to a stop in a computer.

4. Have Spontaneous Unplanned Sex
Visit your partner to have spontaneous and unplanned sex with them. If you’re sleeping over at their place, make an attempt to have sex with them once their back from work. If they do their best to avoid it or push you away, there may just be a likelihood of them being sexually exhausted.

5. Trail Them After A Disagreement
A cheating partner will most likely try to start a fight and attempt to walk away from you when there’s a disagreement. The reason for this is for them to spend time with any other person they’re cheating with. If you find out that your partner is always trying to start a fight even when there’s no reason to, they may just be cheating and looking for a way to leave you and spend time with the other person.
Steadily trail Them when they walk out the door and you may find the information you want.

6. Pay Them Surprise Visits
One of the quickest ways to catch a cheating partner is to go to their houses uninvited to surprise them. While you may not catch them in the act, any sign of visible anger of surprise may point to the fact that they have something or someone they’re hiding from you.

7. A Change In Their Sleeping Pattern
If you suddenly notice a change in their sleeping patterns such as them staying up longer than usual and offering work as an excuse to stay away for long hours at a stretch, there may be someone else. If you’re interested in knowing the truth, you may want to pretend as if you’ve fallen asleep and the minute they take off, you can follow them and stalk their activities.

8. Hidden Cameras
If you want to take your detective activities a notch higher, you can place a spy camera in your partners home just to be sure. A spycam can monitor their activities and movements, especially the people that come in and out of their homes. You should however be wary and ensure you’re not breaking any privacy laws.
