By Our Reporter

Moses Mbuga is a rising fitness model and body builder. The 24-year-old has been on the modeling scene for sometime now and recently participated in the Mr Ideal Uganda 2016 pageant.

Born in Nsambya, Kampala, Moses went to Kitebi SS, Jec High School, and Jeppe Bloemfontein College. We caught up with him and he tells us about his career and love for fitness and fashion.

Who is Mbuga Moses?

I am a rising fitness model who has been in the fashion industry before and I am a body builder but I describe myself as Shredded Mowzy because of my body transformation.

What is your typical day like?

My typical day there must be a candy which is Snickers and it must be an “X2” and with gym, I have the best day ever.

Why did you join Modeling?

I joined modeling because I had love for it initially and I was inspired by a few figures in the industry that I felt I wanted to be like.

Do you eat nutritiously and what is your typical meal made of?

I do eat nutritiously because first of all I am a fitness and diet trainer, my best meal is Matooke and chicken. I can never go without it.

How often do you exercise or go to the gym?

I normally go to the gym four days in a week. When I have a very busy week, then I cut it down to three days.

We recently spotted you at the MTN Marathon, which race did you run and how was the experience for you?

I ran the 10KM race, it was really challenging. At first I thought, because of my history of running, I would pace through but it was not as easy. Some people upgraded the game. It was fun because I met a lot of people that I knew on the way. Some people wanted to shake hands. It was fun.

Which models on the international scene inspire you and why?

The first model that inspires me is Ullyses Jr. He is in the fitness world and he is so hardworking, he is practical, his whole energy is invested in hard work. He inspires me a lot.

The next is Simeon Panda, he is also a hardworking parson I love him and he inspires me too.

mbuga-moses

You have an army of fans under the “Shredded Army” umbrella, how do you keep in touch with them amid your tight schedule?

“Shredded Army” wasn’t my making; it was created by my fans. Initially, I never thought I needed an entourage of people but I got so surprised that people were so in love with my work and created the “Shredded Army” clique. I save time to chat with them. I give them tasks or jobs to finish up and they are doing so well. I love them and I am inspired by them.

You recently opened up a fitness program for people in Kampala? What inspired you and what is it all about?

First of all, the program is called “Shredded Fitness”. It is not a business venture to me. I look at it as an outreach program to the community because a lot of people out there don’t see the essence of living fit and healthy. I want to change their mentality that being fit is not all about being a gym rat. People are welcoming it and I love it.

You have a fitness application that you are developing at the moment, how will this help your fans and clients to live healthier lives?

With current tech trends the whole working system has changed into mobility and tech and I thought of an app that can reach out to people without moving about but something that they can have right in their hands. They will be able to use it to access information about fitness diet and have the ability to order personal trainers. They can also have the opportunity to glance good looking people on the app and be inspired to transform their bodies.

What kind of outfits do you feel comfortable in?

I normally love jumpers. I love stretching pants because they feel so much comfortable. I also love skinny jeans because they look good on me. On top of this, I love vests and shoes so much.

Do you travel often? Which countries have you visited and what have you learnt about fashion from these countries?

I have been to South Africa, Canada and Kenya but all these countries always have different standards and style.

People in the western world dress up according to trend they are fashionable according to seasons and the current situation either political or economic etc.

You participated in the Mr. Ideal Uganda pageant early this year, what were your key learnings that you’d like to pass on to our readers?

Pageants are always challenging for whoever has been in them. My experience was about knowing what to do and I met a number of people who are still important in my life up to now. I got to learn a lot about photography. I also got to know people who love me. That is part of the reason I carry on because they made me feel special and loved.

We have it on good authority that you are into acting as well, how has this been going for you? Are there any upcoming film projects?

I have passion for acting in the first place. I have been acting on the grounds of learning and searching for knowledge throughout the movie industry. No movies at the moment. I plan to engage in the movie industry sometime in June next year. I have worked with a few TV commercials and they fall in the same line. I have a TV show that I am working on called The Cat walker it will be airing sometime around next year. It is fun and people should wait for it.

Who is your best local musician and which specific songs make your day?

My best local musician is Dr. Jose Chameleone. It’s too unfortunate that most of the people lately don’t even remember his songs but I really love the lyrics of ‘Jamila’, ‘Shida za Dunia’ that is a nice song that I have ever heard from him and I believe that he is still doing some good work out there.

Another one who does inspirational music to me I call her a goodness is Naava Grey. I crush on her every day because she does magic and wonders, her music is love and everything you can talk about.

mbuga-moses

Are you seeing someone at the moment? What are your plans for her?

It is unfortunate that at the moment I am not seeing anyone. I have been in a relationship but things didn’t work out the way I thought. I am single and I am open to loving someone out there.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

I plan to own most of the things that I fantasize about. First of all, business-wise I plan to own my own fitness company.

I plan to have my brand name going international, that is the “Shredded Fitness” and the “Shredded Army”. I would love to have a clothing line that is a vest line. I plan to be an international model who is competing on the international stage.

Any words of encouragement to people who want to be like you out there?

They should first discover themselves in the first place and if you know you want something then you go for it. For the people who see me or see us, they should stop fantasizing about the kinds of lives we live. You are living way better than us it’s just that you need to find the right things to do.

Live every single moment that you have because you never know what is going to happen the next day. Work hard as tomorrow is your final pay and struggle for the rest of your life until you have all you ever wanted.

Bobi Wine with other delegates at the 5th Annual Convention of the Great Lakes Young Leaders Forum at the International University of East Africa.

Held under the theme of young people and integration, delegates were addressed by President Museveni who urged them to adhere to integration and Pan-Africanism, arguing that this will  foster family prosperity, boarder security and African identity among trans-border communities.

Bobi Wine could not agree anymore with the President’s remarks. Speaking after the convention, the “Time Bomb” singer revealed that he believes in the dream of a united Africa.

He said, “President Museveni delivered a lecture on Regional Integration, one of the few things I agree with him about. I actually don’t only believe in the Great Lakes Regional Integration, but the whole of Africa. These are things that Bob Marley was talking about in the song Africa Unite.”

“However, in my opinion, regional integration should be approached from a social, rather than political point of view, i.e, focus on things like a common language, cultural exchange, arts, music, sports and games etc.” He added.

Turns out there is no love lost between singers Dr. Jose Chameleone and Cindy Sanyu as the two have kissed and made up and a collabo could even be in the offing.

The two, who had a bitter altercation a few years back when Cindy accused one of Chameleone’s Leone Island members of stealing from her, seem to have buried the hatched. They were seen in a warm embrace at SK Mbuga’s introduction after party that was held at Liquid Silk.

The “Badilisha” singer was seen embracing Cindy so hard like his life depended on it. Cindy later told us that she was goofing around with one of Africa’s finest and she enjoyed it, setting tongues on fire about a possible collaboration.

“I was goofing around with one of Africa’s greatest artistes Dr. Jose Chameleone. You know it’s not an ordinary party when he walks in,” the Afrimma Best Female East African artiste told us.

Whether the collabo will be worked on or not is a matter of time.

Professor Big Eye ready to take on Wizkid

With Professor Big Eye’s concert at La Grande Hotel in Bwaise on the same day that Wizkid will be performing in Kampala, the Big Music team is more than ready to take on the Nigerian superstar.

Although questions have been raised about whether Professor Big Eye will manage to pull a sizeable crowd on the same day that Wizkid will be in town, the singer and his camp are confident that they will pull it off.

According to one of the Big Music members who preferred anonymity, the two concerts will both be successful basing on the fact that they are targeting different audiences.

“You see, StarBoss Big Eye is targeting local fans who will do anything to see him on stage doing his thing. These are not the people from Kololo or uptown but those from downtown; people in Bwaise, Makindye and even Masaka. Wizkid on the other hand is more of an uptown boy targeting people who are high end. This means that both artistes will get the numbers as the clashing in fan base is very minimal,” he told us.

“Also, StarBoss’ concert is 10,000shs and 20,000shs while as Wizkid tickets are between 30,000shs and 100,000shs. This clearly shows you that we are looking at different audiences,” the Big Music member added.

Singer Big Eye has already started doing his concert rehearsals at PCT Salama road. He promises nothing but the best for his fans.

Wizkid, on the other hand, will thrill his fans in mega show at Lugogo Cricket Oval on 3rd December. The concert is being organized by Star Times and Face TV.

8 Things You Must Do Before 2017

rtw

Before the clock runs out on 2016, make sure you have a list of things to check against before 2017 comes knocking at your door. With barely 4 weeks to the end of this year, you need to do certain things to help you achieve ‘cool’ success. I call it ‘cool’ success because while you thought the year is done for you, there is a lot you can still achieve in this remaining short time. For instance:

1. Get in shape and detox for the festive season. Start walking for 30 minutes every day and have a 4-minute rope jump for those “killer abs” during the festival season. This can get you in shape for those slim fitting Christmas clothes. Exercising will also keep you get in better shape for the festive season dance craze. Detoxing is necessary before the New Year since there is a lot of eating and merry making during Christmas. Talk to your doctor about the best detoxing method for you before you embark.

2. Learn something new. Enroll for the Barclays free online Readytowork course before the year ends that you can complete in just 2 days and attain an additional certificate. You will get skilled in Money management, people relations, work ethics and entrepreneurship. You can also do the free Readytowork face-to-face training that is scheduled to take place at the HUB, Oasis Mall from 5th to 16th December 2016 at The Hub. Register for free here.

3. Read two books. There is a lot of information in books. Reading never runs out of fashion and it kind-of relaxes you off that smart gadget your fingers are addicted it, while refreshing your memory.

4. Check yourself into a “fashion rehab.” Revamp your closet and how you look. People will judge you based on how you present yourself. There are clothes you should no longer wear. Give them away.

5. Body check-up. If a Car is serviced after each kilometer, why don’t you go see a qualified medical practitioner for a full body medical checkup. You need to have a periodical checkup to know how you stand health wise so you plan better. Cancer is officially the leading headliner, you should check out for.

6. Work on a budget. Financial times are getting hard. A budget helps you manage your finances better. Spend only on what must be spent on. Save and invest your money. Save some money in a way you are comfortable with. There are many ways you can save your money for future rainy days. Find out more at Readytowork.

7. Personal Self-assessment. Evaluate yourself against the goals you had set for 2016. Celebrate yourself instead of waiting for others to do so. They say that You may be the reason you are not happy.

8. Fall in love. Fall in love with someone unconditionally. Fall in love with your God and loved ones. Put your God above everything else by seeking Him, Fasting, praying and reading spiritual books.

NTV’s Sheila Nduhukire dragged into Facebook fight

Sheila Nduhukire

By Prim Kembabazi

Facebookers have been entertained with a free show this morning as media whizzes Henry Ssali of Matooke Republic and Timothy Kalyegira of The Kampala Express Newspaper exchanged ‘blows’ over a news article that appeared on the Matooke Republic website.

Timothy complained that he was not offered a platform to respond to the sexual harassment allegations made against him by Doreen Baingana, published by Matooke Republic, the a free newspaper and website.

He questioned whether the editors of the website having been former Daily Monitor employees didn’t develop the instinct of fairness and giving a voice to both sides to share their side of the story.

As the proprietor of the website responded to Timothy, more and more people got involved including tycoon Sudhir who issued a statement about his role at Matooke republic.

Before long, NTV Uganda’s Sheila Nduhukire was also dragged into the fight.

“One more thing that intrigues me about you Mr Kalyegira; you have disdain for Ugandans calling them mediocre, simple minds, buffoons and generally not intellectuals. What is intellectual about the endless images of NTV’s Sheila Nduhukire that you publish day in day out on your newspaper (sorry I meant Facebook page). Your “paper” is supposed to be oozing intellectualism not Sheila Nduhukire’s photos,” Henry posted.

“I had chosen not to make further response to Mr. Timothy Kalyegira after exhausting our defence to his complaints in my earlier post. The ownership issue he claimed has also been addressed by both myself and Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, so I expected him to go back to his duties of taking Sheila Nduhukire’s photos for Kampala Express,” Henry added in a separate post.

Both Sheila Nduhukire and Timothy are yet to comment about this matter.

We will keep you posted.

8 Excuses Ladies Give To Break Up With Their Boyfriends

$

Coup

Breaking up with your partner might be a hard thing to do but sometimes it’s the right thing. Talking to a lot of people, we were surprised to hear some whacky yet common reasons people broke up with their partners.

1. It feels like I am babysitting!

Immaturity can be really harmful for a relationship. Most women complain about having to deal with immature men who can’t get serious about anything in their lives and we pity them. Cute little childish moments are important but being with an immature guy? No way!

2. You’ve changed…

Topping the list of breaking up reasons, ‘You have changed’ is a common reason for break ups. Funny as it may sound, changing is not a negative sign unless it’s for the greater good. You can’t remain stagnant for long, right?

3. His priorities have changed

Not picking up your calls, cancelling a date, cutting down on those gifts (YES), or just any similar reason can make the girl wonder that his boyfriend’s priorities have changed (sometimes yes, sometimes not) and it ultimately leads to the split.

4. You can’t buy me a Mercedes

We can’t deny the fact that girls are thought to be a little money minded when it comes to being in a relationship and thinking about having a secure future if not bad until it is JUST about money. Right or not, it is one of the reasons for girls to break up!

5. He smells like a trash can

Are you one of those who broke up with her boyfriend due to his smelly socks? Or stinky breath? Or the worst, because he didn’t wash himself for days together? If yes, we are proud of you that you’re no more with a guy for whom hygiene is just a word.

6. Long distance relationships don’t really work out

Skype and phone calls take over those eye locking conversations; you are no longer available for pillow talks, sip coffee together or even for a walk together. Your initial excitement of meeting your other half after months turns into infuriation due to lack of intimacy. You are left miserable. Your patience level gives up and soon what we hear is, break up!

7. His friend is way more hotter than him

Let’s be honest. Hotness is something that also tops the priority list for women when looking for a boyfriend. Right? And when your boyfriend’s friend is hotter than him, you just won’t be able to keep your mind at peace. Would ya?

8. My parents don’t like him

Who wants to be constantly crushed between your parents and your guy. Many girls call it quits because they are not able to handle the constant nagging from their parents.

The Gulu War Affected Training Centre, (GWATC), an Eskom Uganda aided facility which was established in the aftermath of the Northern war has held its sixth graduation ceremony with 99 students receiving certificates in catering, tailoring and hair dressing.

The founder of the Centre, Ms. Betty Lalam who started with only 5 students in a shop verandah in 2005, showered praises at Eskom Uganda, the Nalubale and Kiira dams Concessionaire for making the school what its today through consistent funding.

Eskom Uganda MD Thozama Gangi hands over a brand new sowing machine to the best student Lucky Akot at the ceremony.

Eskom Uganda MD Thozama Gangi hands over a brand new sowing machine to the best student Lucky Akot at the ceremony.

“The People of Gulu and indeed the whole of Acholi Sub region, especially those who have gone through this training centre look at Eskom as God’s messenger, send to wipe tears off our eyes, following the trauma that we went through during the LRA war which ravaged this area. We can never thank them enough.

Lalam said the fresh graduates are joining 1,814 other beneficiaries who have graduated from the centre since inception and have gone off to start profitable ventures using the skills they acquired at the centre.

Speaking at the same event which took place at the Centre, located in the outskirts of Gulu town, Eskom Uganda Managing Director Thozama Gangi said Eskom started with initial donation of UGX 200 Million to build classroom blocks for GWATC which we officially opened and handed over to the Director and Board members on January 14th, 2010. According to Thozama, the company has since continued to offer assistance to the school by offering a sowing machine to the best student on graduation day.

“For me, I look at what is happening here today as a demonstration of Eskom’s commitment to continue making a difference in the lives of ordinary people, to ensure their wellbeing is improved.

Initially, the Gulu War Affected Training Centre was set up to equip women affected by the 20-year insurgency that ravaged Northern Uganda with Vocational hands-on skills like tailoring, catering and hairdressing to help them get a decent living. With Eskom’s support that vision has come to bear fruits as you can see for yourselves today,” Thozama said.

According to Thozama, the idea of constructing the facility was hinged onto the relevance of community rehabilitation following the devastating war that ravaged these region years back.

Thozama said Eskom has since attracted other partners including MTN Uganda which donated 15 computers to start up an ICT lab within the facility. MTN also donated one Inverter and solar batteries.

“Eskom Uganda is proud to be one of those companies that came out to stand with the communities here at a time of need. We wanted to be part of the process that would eradicate those ugly scars left by war, in the hearts of our brothers and sisters in this region,” Thozama added.

The Guest of Honour at the event, South African High Commissioner His Excellency Prof. Rtd. Major Gen. Solly Mollo urged the graduants to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired at the centre to add value to their lives.

He hailed Eskom for standing with the people of Acholi in times of need, equating the move to a good friend who sticks around even in bad times.

Major General Mollo pledged to explore channels through which the Acholi Cultural institution can engage in a cultural exchange with the South African people.

Other humanitarian initiatives activated by Eskom Uganda Limited

Eskom Uganda believes in adding value to the lives of local communities and hence it has over the last 13 years invested in environmental upgrade, sports sponsorship, health and education.

In Environment, Eskom has engineered the planting of over 40,000 trees around Jinja district.

Eskom also partnered with Busoga Development Agency to plant trees along all major roads in Busoga Sub-region.

In Health, Eskom has partnered with local leadership to upgrade and rehabilitate Kimaka Maternity Clinic in Jinja.

Eskom is looking at equipping the clinic with modern equipment to reduce maternity related risks.

In Education, Eskom plans to rehabilitate the Njeru Primary school in Buikwe district.

Work begins in December 2016 to re-roof the school and install solar supply system and stock a state of the art computer room as well as water supply system in partnership with other corporates.

We also believe in transferring skills to Ugandans:

About 390 graduate trainees in Uganda have been absorbed by Eskom to gain hands on experience in hydro generation engineering since commencement of operations.

EUL has continued to offer a continuous industrial training of 30 students per annum.

In line with government of Uganda’s focus on Skilling Uganda, Eskom is already making a contribution towards taking Uganda to a middle income economy by 2020.

This year, Eskom has undertaken to train 25 Engineers, technicians and operators from UEGCL as part of Eskom’s contribution towards skills development of UEGCL.
