Azawi Criticizes Uganda Musicians Federation Over SACCO Money Distribution

By BigEyeUg Team

Ugandan artist Azawi has voiced her dissatisfaction with the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) regarding the distribution of SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization) funds.

Through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Azawi highlighted her concerns about the unfair allocation of these funds, pointing out that already established artists received the largest shares without any obligation to repay.

Federation SACCO money was given out, but it’s shocking that the already ‘established’ artists are the ones that got the fattest amounts and are not obliged to pay back,” Azawi stated.

Her frustration stems from the belief that the financial support intended to uplift struggling artists is instead being directed towards those who are already successful in the industry.

Azawi also raised critical questions about the potential consequences for less-established artists who fail to repay the government funds. She warned, “Do these struggling artists know the repercussions of failure to pay back government money? What if the government takes their entire music catalogue, are they ready for that?”

This concern highlights the precarious situation for up-and-coming musicians who might risk losing their creative work if they cannot meet the repayment terms.

Azawi is not alone in her discontent. MC Kats, another well-known figure in Uganda’s entertainment industry, has also expressed dissatisfaction with the Federation’s President, Eddy Kenzo, over the distribution of these funds.

MC Kats’s comments echo a growing sentiment among the creative community that the current leadership is failing to address the needs of less-established artists.

The controversy surrounding the SACCO money distribution sheds light on broader issues within the Uganda Musicians Federation.

It raises questions about transparency, equity, and the support structures available for emerging artists in Uganda’s music industry.

As more voices like Azawi’s and MC Kats’s join the conversation, it is clear that there is a call for change and accountability within the Federation.

The Federation’s handling of the SACCO funds and the backlash it has received could serve as a pivotal moment for reassessing how financial resources are allocated within the industry.

Ensuring that these funds reach those who need them most might be crucial for fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for all Ugandan artists.

Anyone Who Doesn’t Make Money In Kampala Must Be Very Lazy

A young businessman in Kampala recently shocked students at Makerere University. Shawn Tewins Mukabya aka Mr. Kampala was meeting some student entrepreneurs from Kikoni during their monthly gathering. He was the keynote speaker. In his speech, he confirmed that Kampala was the place where everything is possible.

“You can come to Kampala on Monday and by Friday, if you are really serious, you can own an apartment,” Mr. Kampala said. “I came to Kampala a few months back, now I am one of the top businesspeople. It’s easy people, you just need a brain and not be lazy. Anyone who doesn’t make money in Kampala must be very lazy.”

This statement left several student entrepreneurs shocked and perplexed. He was asked to put his statement in context. Mr. Kampala continued; ‘you see guys, this is how it works. Kampala is a big lake. You know how much money is in circulation right now? There is 29,258 billion of currency in circulation. That’s much more than the Ugandan population. Like all that money is out there. Tell me, unless you are lazy, why wouldn’t you have just a billion of that money?”

Mr. Kampala further explained; “the way I see it, Kampala is the place. Those people wasting time going to Diaspora, if they worked as hard as they will work in Diaspora, they would all be rich. Personally, I just did it in months and it’s because I was chilling so much, I was a bit lazy and distracted by my Najeera girlfriends. Meaning, I could have done it in weeks. I am telling you, even right now, if you are serious, you can make 100 million in this hour.”

BigEye.ug reached out to some of the student entrepreneurs for their reactions. One of them, Agnes Mukandi said; “for me, this is really a new thing. I know your Pastor or Lecturer can’t tell you this, but Mr. Kampala made it clear.”

Moses Mukiibi on the other hand commented; “Mr. Kampala has done it, why not us. I am not even attending lectures next week. I want to go and get some of this money.”

By BigEyeUg Team

Singer Brown Shugar has opened up on the complex and troubling dynamics of her past relationships and professional entanglements.

In an interview on Sanyuka TV’s Bigenda Bitya, she spoke about how her former manager, a notorious ex-socialite known for his wealth and controversial lifestyle, manipulated her into a simultaneous relationship with fellow singer Serena Bata.

Brown Shugar recounted that her manager was upfront about his intentions from the start. He sought a dual role: a wife and someone to manage, intertwining personal and professional boundaries in a problematic manner.

However, the glamour of Sipapa’s wealth led to a darker reality. He was married to three women concurrently, yet failed to treat them with respect or provide a stable home environment.

Reports of physical abuse and financial neglect were rampant, culminating in his wives leaving him due to his abusive behavior and refusal to cover household expenses.

For Brown Shugar, the end of her relationship with Sipapa marked a turning point. She quickly moved on, marrying a well-known comedian, Taata Sam, and welcoming a child. Unfortunately, this relationship also proved to be short-lived.

Meanwhile, Serena Bata attempted to navigate her career post-Sipapa by collaborating with another manager, Abtex. This professional relationship, however, did not yield the success she had hoped for.

Reflecting on her experiences, Brown Shugar issued a cautionary note to other women. She emphasized the importance of thorough due diligence before entering into any management agreements, highlighting the potential risks and the need for awareness in such professional and personal engagements.

While at Sipapa Management, it wasn’t just about music; it was also about relationships. He wanted a wife, and I think Serena Bata and I were in a relationship with him at the same time.”

A local events promoter has accused popular singer Alien Skin and his associates of assault and theft.

The promoter, whose name is withheld for safety reasons, claims he was attacked when he visited Alien Skin’s residence in Kizungu, Makindye, to discuss a promotional arrangement.

The promoter stated that he had paid over Ugx 3 million to Alien Skin for a promotional advert drop. Despite the payment, he alleges that Alien Skin and his team intentionally withheld the service. Seeking to resolve the issue, the promoter went to Alien Skin’s home, where he says he was brutally assaulted by the singer’s gang without any provocation.

According to the promoter, the gang also forcefully took his money during the attack. “I went there to find out what went wrong with the promo, but instead, I was met with violence and robbery,” he recounted.

This is not the first time Alien Skin and his Fangone Forest camp have faced accusations of violence.

The singer has been listed on several police reports for similar incidents. Just last month, Alien Skin was accused of assaulting Evelyn Mic, a presenter at Galaxy FM.

The repeated allegations raise concerns about the behavior of Alien Skin and his entourage. As of now, no official statement has been released by Alien Skin or his representatives regarding these latest accusations.

Local authorities have been informed of the incident, and an investigation is reportedly underway. The promoter is seeking justice and hopes that the authorities will take appropriate action against the perpetrators.

Salim Kitagenda, Head of Product – Personal & Private Banking at Stanbic Bank, highlighted the bank’s commitment to honoring women and mothers. “Our partnership with NRG Radio to celebrate mothers throughout May is born from the desire to let our mothers know that we care about them, we appreciate their role in society, and we want to create happy memories with them,” he said.

Sylvia Kaggwa, Manager of Sales at Uganda Airlines, emphasized the importance of mothers to the airline. “Mothers are the wings beneath our wings at Uganda Airlines. Without mothers, there would be no us, no pilots, no staff, no Uganda Airlines. We are truly excited to be part of this celebration and cannot wait to give the mothers an unforgettable experience flying with us,” she said.

The winners of this prestigious trip are Nahurira Ivan and his guardian Kamugisha Martha. Their fully paid 5-day trip to Dubai, sponsored by Stanbic Bank and facilitated by Uganda Airlines, will be managed by Travelneza. Expressing his excitement, Ivan said, “We are over the moon with joy! This is a dream come true for us. We are so grateful to NRG Radio, Stanbic Bank, and Uganda Airlines for this incredible opportunity. We can’t wait to experience Dubai and create lifelong memories.”

This was the first edition of the “My Mom, My NRG” campaign, powered by Stanbic Bank, Uganda Airlines, Capital Shoppers Supermarket, BellaZuri, Sumz, ZuenaCakes, and Fairway Hot
