As the MTN staff continue their 21 Days of Y’ello care (21 DOYC) drive aimed at supporting communities to drive economic recovery, the company’s staff have digitally upskilled and offered recovery packages to The Missionaries of the Poor, a Rubaga-based charity home that offers shelter to orphans and homeless people.

MTN Uganda has equipped and supported the Missionaries of the Poor Group with computers for digital skills and also donated assorted food items, blankets and hygiene supplies in their 21 Days of Y’ello care drive.

Some of the items donated to the Missionaries of the Poor, a Rubaga-based charity home.

Some of the youths in the community got lessons on how to use the computer and internet, create emails, search for business tutorials on YouTube, and more in the MTN Internet bus.

John Walusimbi, an ICT trainer on the MTN Internet bus, said there is a high turn-up of youths in the community who are eager to explore the knowledge of Information Communication Technology.

Alex Mutagaya, a resident in Rubaga said that he has been educated on how to access videos teaching about tailoring on YouTube but didn’t have a smartphone or a computer to rehearse the steps.

On realizing such challenges, MTN has equipped and supported the Missionaries of the Poor Group with computers for digital skills to enable them to thrive in the digital era, printers, sewing machines, wheelchairs, and scholastic materials.

Other donations are; 200 Kilograms of sugar, 200 Kgs of maize floor, 200 kgs of beans, blankets and hygiene supplies including: sanitizer, liquid soap, adult diapers, surgical gloves, and toilet rolls among others.

Brother Zoachim Lakra, the proprietor of the home joyfully thanked the MTN team for the overwhelming contributions and suggested that this giving may continuously go to other disadvantaged groups that need a restoration for their groups too.

“MTN has not left us as orphans and indeed May God bless you all the works of your hands,” said Lakra.

In his remarks, Richard Yego, the Managing Director of MTN Mobile Money Services, thanked the MTN staff for engaging in the community activities and sharing their digital skills with the vulnerable groups.

“We are pleased to strengthen our communities by helping them regenerate their businesses and empowering youth and disadvantaged persons to develop in their societies,” said Yego.

In resonance with Yego, Micheal Sekkade, the General Manager of Human Resources at MTN, says this 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign creates love between MTN and the many that it supports, which he affirms is a virtuous edge for the company and the public.

Masaka 21 Days of Y’ello Care

In an event presided over by Fr. Deusdedit Ssekabira, the Maska Diocese youth leader, MTN’s Jimmy Ssempuuma also added that MTN will support the youth in harnessing the power of digital skills to better manage their coffee-growing enterprise, such as using the internet to find more innovative ways tending to their coffee plantations, adding value to their coffee as well as finding the right market for it.

The first edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon has been announced. This was during a press conference held at the Margherita Hotel in Kasese on Tuesday.

The marathon is slated for 3rd September, 2022 and will start and end at the aptly named Kasese Marathon Grounds.

To launch the marathon, organisers, Amos Wekesa and Robert Kabushenga, along with 12 other travel enthusiasts summited Mt. Rwenzori’s Margherita Peak to place the marathon banner and draw world attention to the event.

The marathon has been organised with the purposes of fostering healthy lifestyles, highlighting climate preservation and celebrating sports tourism.

“Ugandans have shown immense interest in participating in the various marathons and runs that have been organised within Kampala. But there has been a burning desire among athletes and ordinary running enthusiasts to have a marathon in an entirely different environment. The iconic Rwenzori Mountains provide a new challenge, with a bonus of a scenic setting,” said Kabushenga.

Tusker Lite is the marathon’s title sponsor.

Elizabeth Mutamuliza, the Tusker Lite Brand Manager said that the brand is about “liting the way” to new exciting experiences for consumers and nothing beats a marathon in the ‘Rwenzoris’.

“Tusker Lite has been involved in fun runs like the Kampala Night Run, but we are pushing the envelope with the Rwenzori Marathon. It is the perfect opportunity to explore the great outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of town,” she said.

Mutamuliza said that Tusker Lite’s sponsorship will go a long way in promoting tourism in the area, which will in turn transform the lives of the people of Kasese.

The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon will consist of a 42km full marathon, a 21km half marathon and 5km fun run.

There are lots of activities organisers have lined up for people who would like to be part of the event, but won’t be running. There will be hikes, bird watching, boat rides on the Kazinga channel and a concert to crown the event.

“Our motherland is rich in so many ways and this event will cast a spotlight on the many wonders of the Kasese region. This is a great opportunity to explore Uganda,” shared Wekesa.

Govt to slash price of sickle cell drug by half

Dr Charles Kiyaga, the national sickle cell coordinator, said plans are also underway to include the medicine among government essential medical supplies so patients can access it for free in hospitals like anti-retroviral drugs

The Ministry of Health has said it initiated talks with manufacturers and local vendors of the life-saving sickle cell medicine, hydroxyurea, to reduce the price by half and increase access.
Dr Charles Kiyaga, the national sickle cell coordinator, told this publication yesterday that plans are also underway to include the medicine among government essential medical supplies so patients can access it for free in hospitals like anti-retroviral drugs.

This development followed the increasing outcry of sickle cell patients that they cannot afford the medicine because of its high price.
Hydroxyurea, the medicine which is taken daily is being sold at an average price of Shs1,700 per tablet, according to information from caretakers and patients.
“We are working with the manufacturers to see that they reduce the price. They have already told us that they reduced the price to Shs700. Now what we still need to do is to work with their vendors [in Uganda]. They said the selling price from their vendors is what pushes it higher,” Dr Kiyaga said.

“So we are still discussing how to regulate the vendors so that the price doesn’t go that high. We want to see that each dose will be sold at around Shs800,” he added.
Mr Isaac Okello, the head of Raising Hope International Friends (RHIF), an organising working with persons with sickle cell disease (SCD), said before hydroxyurea came, patients were using folic acid where “we were paying Shs1, 500 for 30 tablets that would last 30 days.”
Dr Kiyaga said the rollout of free hydroxyurea has been limited by resources allocated towards the intervention.

“We are trying a couple of approaches to ensure they get hydroxyurea free. But we are not yet there. We have just got a donation which we have distributed through the National Medical Stores. But the quantity is small. It cannot cover the needs of all patients,” he said.  He didn’t reveal the exact amount.
Dr Richard Idro, a consultant paediatrician at Mulago National Referral Hospital and former President ofUganda Medical Association (UMA), said taking hydroxyurea daily reduces the number of painful episodes, requirement for blood transfusions and even the number of hospitalisations.
Around 13 percent of the population carry this gene and 0.8 percent have the disease.

“Sickle cell anaemia is an inherited genetic disorder of the blood pigment, haemoglobin. Haemoglobin is found in the red blood cells and it binds and transports oxygen around our bodies. People with sickle cell anaemia inherit two abnormal genes one from each parent. Those who inherit only one abnormal gene do not suffer the disease but are carriers,” Dr Idro said.
Avoiding marriages between carriers is an effective way to prevent SCD. Testing for sickle cell traits is done in hospitals at somewhere from Shs25,000 to Shs100,000.

On Tuesday, MTN Uganda donated computers and a WiFi router and a multi-purpose printer to the Nakawa Market vendors Association as it concluded its staff volunteerism campaign dubbed 21 Days of Y’ello Care, which also doubled as the MTN Y’ello Care Day across the MTN footprint.

Similarly, an MTN staff team in Mbarara also reached out to the Bunusya Abarema Twetungungure association in Mbarara on the same day, with a donation of goats, fencing materials, and farm inputs as well as a digital training session to support the group of farmers on their path to recovery following the disruptive Covid-19 pandemic, as part of the same campaign.

The annual campaign that is always executed within the first 21 days of June, was this year held under the theme: “Empowering Communities to Drive Economic Recovery” with a keen focus on digital skills training and digital job creation to spur economic recovery among disadvantaged communities that were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The digital upskilling aspect of the campaign is hinged on MTN’s strategic priority to build digital skills for digital jobs in alignment to the company’s Ambition 2025 Strategy.

Dorcas Batwala Muhwezi, the MTN Uganda General Manager, Customer experience reaffirmed that it was heart-warming for the staff of MTN Uganda to once again dedicate their time, financial resources, and skills, to the communities in a bid to uplift them socio-economically, following the drastic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The history of the World Wrestling Entertainment corporation, better known as the WWE, is a fascinating one. Punters can visit 1xbet.com.gh – top betting companies in Ghana in order to place wagers on its events. It could be easily possible to write a book about it, for this reason, here a brief summary will be given. It is possible to say that three different entities were predecessors to the WWE. They were:

  • the Capitol Wrestling Corporation;
  • the World Wide Wrestling Federation;
  • and the World Wrestling Federation.

All of them were quite successful in their own right. However, here we will concentrate specifically on the WWE. The 1xBet Ghana top betting companies can be used in order to wager on the highly entertaining events organized by the WWE.

A decisive name change

There is another entity known as the WWF, which is the World Wildlife Fund. Of course, this organization has nothing to do with wrestling. However, there were legal disputes between both entities regarding the name. After the WWF lost the lawsuit, they were forced to change their name to WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002. The 1xbet.com.gh/line/Wrestling/ betting platform can be used in order to wager on all the events organized by WWE.

However, not only the name was changed. There were also huge reforms in the way the company itself worked. The first notable occurrence also took place in 2002. It consisted in establishing two separate brands, which were Raw and SmackDown. The name given to this occurrence was “brand extension”. The 1xBet website can also be used in order to wager on the SmackDown events.

Unification and second split

This initial separation between the SmackDown and Raw brands lasted only nine years. In 2011, it was announced that they were uniting one more time. After this unification, wrestlers from both franchises had the option to compete in a single roster. Video games of wrestling competitions can be highly entertaining, and 1xbet.com.gh/line/Esports/ features wagers on many of them.

In another turn of events, this unification lasted only five years. In 2016, the WWE stated that a new separation was going to be introduced. The brands SmackDown and Raw were introduced one more time.

Wrestlers who were part of this unified WWE participated on drafts which assigned them to one of the two franchises. Currently, both of them deliver memorable events, and they can be wagered on the 1xBet betting platform.

Incredible achievements

Tyson showed very early in his career that he was destined for greatness. Due to his impressive physical size, he competed in the heavyweight category of boxing. All categories of this discipline offer exciting events, and the best place to wager on them is the https://www.1xbet.ng/en/live/ website.

For example, Tyson won his first fight when he was barely over 20 years and four months old. This makes him the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title. But that’s not all, because over the years, he managed to keep many titles at the same time. Examples include the IBF, the WBC and the WBA ones. The 1xBet betting platform allows its members to make live wagers on all events that these instances can offer.

Recovering his place

As said in the beginning, Mike Tyson has had quite a few issues in his personal life. In fact, he served some jail time in the 1990s. However, after being released from prison, he immediately went on to reclaim his place. You can install 1xBet app iOS in order to start wagering on these highly exciting boxing events.

One of the most difficult achievements for a boxer is to reclaim a heavyweight championship. Actually, very few names have made such an achievement. Some of them are:

  • George Foreman;
  • Evander Holyfield;
  • Tim Witherspoon;
  • Muhammad Ali;
  • and Floyd Patterson.

Yet, Tyson did exactly that in 1996. The iOS app of the 1xBet platform can be installed quite easily, and it can be used for wagering whenever these titles are disputed.

Evander Holyfield is probably Mike Tyson’s biggest rival. In fact, there was quite an infamous incident where Tyson bit one of Holyfield’s ears off. Probably, the reason why Tyson did such a bizarre action was because he lost one of his titles to Holyfield.

In 2002, Tyson tried to recover one of his titles again. He faced Lennox Lewis. However, he was again unable to win the fight. Regardless of these events, Mike Tyson will continue to be one of the greatest but at the same time most controversial characters in boxing history.

The decade of the 1960s was one of the best periods in the history of Italian football team Inter. The https://1xbet.co.ke website can be visited at any moment for placing pre-match and live wagers on this squad.

Grande Inter was the name given to this squad. It had an excellent coach, Helenio Herrera. However, they also had a fantastic set of players that won all kinds of trophies in Italy and Europe during that period. One of the best members of Grande Inter was defender Giacinto Facchetti. The 1xBet betting platform has wagering possibilities on all Italian football.

Facchetti is seen as one of the best full-backs ever. He spent his entire career at Inter, between 1960 and 1978. However, as it will be seen, he also had a brilliant international career with the Italian national football team.

A highly versatile player

Prior to Facchetti’s emergence, full-backs were players that were expected to excel in the defensive aspect of the game. In general, not much more was asked from them. The 1xbet.co.ke/live/Football/ website is the best platform to visit when wanting to wager on fantastic full-backs.

However, Giacinto Facchetti brought a true revolution to this position. In addition to being an unbreakable wall on the left side of Inter’s and Italy’s defense, he was also a very attacking minded player. He was capable of starting deadly counterattacks immediately after recovering the ball. There were many attributes that were recognized in Facchetti, such as:

  • a fantastic pace, that allowed him to quickly gain speed and start attacks;
  • an incredible stamina, which allowed the player to continue running during the entire game;
  • and also, a fantastic technique, which allowed him to break through opposing defensive lines.

Whenever players with this level of talent are in the field, it is possible to wager on them through the 1xBet website.

Captaining Italy to glory

Giacinto Facchetti was part of the Italian national team between 1963 and 1977. During that period, he played 94 games, scored 3 goals, and helped Italy to have one of the best defenses in the world. In order to wager on the Italian team from smartphones and tablets, you can visit the website 1xBet download apk for free.

Facchetti was the captain of the squad that played the 1968 UEFA Euro. He was one of the most important players of the team that won the first European title ever for Italy.

Unfortunately for Facchetti, he was unable to obtain any FIFA World Cup with the Italian team. The closest he came to that was in 1970, where they were runner-ups. They lost that final 1-4 against an incredible Brazilian team. The 1xBet apk can be downloaded from the official website of the bookmaker, and it can be used to wager on FIFA World Cups.
