Diana Agaba – ISC2 Uganda Chapter, Andrew Walusimibi – Uganda Bankers Association, Cyrus Barigye – Financial Intelligence Authority & Angella Tugume – Nita Uganda

The National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U) has today held a Cyber Security Awareness Conference aimed at increasing the public awareness and vigilance about the day-to-day cyber threats.

Dubbed the “Do Your Part, #BeCyberSmart”, the conference brought together different key players in cybersecurity including Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, Uganda Bankers Association, Uganda Police Force, Financial Intelligence Authority, Internet Society Uganda, (ISC)2 Uganda Chapter, ISACA (formerly the Information Systems Audit and Control Association) Kampala Chapter and the National Data Protection Office.

Ms Stella Alibateese – Director PDPO

Speaking at the Conference, the Executive Director NITA-U, Dr. Hatwib Mugasa called up on stakeholders to come together and address cybersecurity concerns. He observed that due to the rapid growth in internet users in the country, there is a much-needed purpose of raising awareness about the cyber-related threats and to empower the Ugandan citizens with the knowledge and sense of shared responsibility to practice a safe and informed decision while using the internet.

“We need to remember as technology users that safeguarding the Internet is a responsibility, we all share. Digital technologies and the Internet have transformed our everyday lives since we can now access information, conduct business, keep in touch with family and friends, and engage online, but we need to remember cyber-attacks are becoming more common and devise means to raise awareness and address them.” Dr. Mugasa said.

Arnold Mangeni – Director Security – Nita

Arnold Mangeni – Director Information Security at NITA-U said that the Government of Uganda through NITA-U is committed to enhancing cyber security in all sectors of the economy and such conferences are a good way to involve all stakeholders in the process.

Government of Uganda acknowledges the importance of creating an environment that allows secure and safe digital transactions for Ugandan citizens.  Government has put in place the National Information Security Framework which provides for minimum security guidelines for every Government agency and the Critical Information Infrastructure each entity is required to maintain. This includes incident response and crisis management largely focused on a prevention and proactive approach. I’m happy to report that we have recently completed the enhancement of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT).”

With the launch of the Cyber Security Awareness Campaign “Be Safe Online” NITA-U continues to deliver on its promise of safeguarding the Ugandan people every step of the way.

Wim Vanhelleputte, the CEO MTN Uganda announces the MTN IPO offer opening recently

By Our Reporter

Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority (CMAK) has provided its ‘no objection’ for The MTN Uganda Initial Public Offering (IPO) to be marketed in Kenya, allowing the marketing of the shares to both Professional Investors and Retail Investors following the opening of the offer in Uganda on 11th October 2021.

The marketing in Kenya is spearheaded by SBG Securities, and Dyer and Blair, both of whom are licensed market intermediaries in Kenya, working in collaboration with their respective affiliates in Uganda. SBG Securities Uganda Limited is the Transaction Advisor and Lead Sponsoring Broker for the MTN Uganda IPO and will be collaborating with SBG Securities Limited (Kenya) to market the IPO in Kenya.

The MTN Uganda IPO offers for sale 4.4 billion ordinary shares, accounting for a 20 percent stake of the company, at a price of UGX 200.00 per share. Each prospective shareholder must apply for at least 500 shares, which, if fully allocated, results in a minimum investment of UGX 100,000 per shareholder.

Kenyan investors will require a valid identification national ID or passport to open a Securities Central Depository (SCD) account at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) to apply for the MTN Uganda IPO. All East Africans who apply for shares, will receive 5 bonus shares for every 100 shares they are allocated. The MTN Uganda IPO will close on Monday 22nd November 2021 at 4pm EAT.

As the first telecommunications company to list on the Uganda Securities Exchange, MTN’s offer will contribute towards deepening the Ugandan and East African’s capital markets by enhancing public access to the growing stock market.

Speaking to analysts and the media about the offer, MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Wim Vanhelleputte said that the decision to float shares on the stock market, is part of MTN’s localization agenda aimed at aligning its company’s priorities more closely with the development agendas of its operating markets, in particular and the African continent, as enshrined in the MTN Ambition 2025 strategy.

“The decision to list MTN on the Uganda Securities Exchange is in line with our localization agenda aimed at prioritizing local investors with the goal of giving Ugandans and indeed East Africans the opportunity to own part of the company,” said Vanhelleputte, adding that Uganda is the fourth MTN operating market to get listed in Africa.

“During MTN’s 23 years in Uganda, we have grown tremendously, thanks to the enabling environment availed by the Government of Uganda as well as the unwavering support and trust of the people of Uganda and East Africa as a whole. We look forward to welcoming Ugandan and indeed East African retail investors as part-owners of a company that we have collectively built and that we’ll continue to grow together,” Vanhelleputte said.

President Uhuru visits Johnnie Walker’s Princes’ Street in Scotland

By Our Reporter

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta is among world leaders attending the UN climate change summit in Glasgow, Scotland. He took time off to tour the famous Johnnie Walker Princes Street in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Johnnie Walker Princes Street is a multi-million-pound visitor attraction promoting Scotch whisky that recently opened in Edinburgh.

While at the facility, Uhuru attended a meeting organised by Diageo with the Scottish Africa Business Association. He visited the establishment together with UK’s Secretary of State for International Trade to discuss water and agribusiness sustainability in Kenya and the broader Africa.

Diageo is big on supporting agribusiness in the region including in Uganda where many materials are locally sourced from local farmers around the country to aid in the processing of Diageo brands.

The tour of the facility, which followed the meeting, climaxed at the 1820 Rooftop Bar, which overlooks Edinburgh Castle. Here, Uhuru took a photo with a life-size statue of ‘Johnnie Walker” and was gifted a limited Blue Label edition of the whisky.

“I am happy to be here… especially that I get to be in this building,” said a jovial Uhuru.

The experience at Princes Street takes visitors on a personalized journey of flavour and discovery, which identifies unique flavours and tastes tailored to them as they learn about the fascinating 200-year-old journey of Johnnie Walker.

The eight-storey Princes Street is the centre piece in Diageo’s £185m investment into Scottish whisky tourism, which received over two million visitors last year.

Former Presidential candidate Kabuleta rallies Bukedi political losers to mobilize residents to fight for area natural resources

The leader of the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue ( NEED) Joseph Kabuleta has rallied political losers in Bukedi sub region to sensitize and mobilize the area residents to fight for their vast natural resources.

Speaking to a congregation of about 120 people representing the seven districts and 22 constituencies of Bukedi sub region on Friday, Kabuleta said Uganda’s biggest gold mine was only recently launched in Busia district which will soon be producing one tonne of gold a day, according to a story in government owned New Vision newspaper on October 11th, 2021.

The same story also said that a total of 8.9 million tonnes of gold have been discovered in the region.

At current market price, a kilogram of gold is priced at about $55,000 on the world market. That means the mine in Busia will soon be producing $55m worth of gold in a single day, yet Bukedi is ranked as the poorest region in the country according to some surveys.

How can a region which is rich in limestone and phosphates and boasts three big cement factories be the poorest?” the former presidential candidate asked the NEED delegates.

How can a region which has the two very lucrative gateways to Kenya be the poorest?”How can a region so rich in fertile land and rice farms be ranked as one of the highest in food insecurity? How can a region situated between lake Victoria on one side and lake Kyoga on the other be the poorest?” he further wondered.

Kabuleta urged the leaders of the region to wake up from their slumber and stand up to fight for their wealth which is being systematically stolen by a few political elites who have now used their connections to acquire square miles of resource-rich land in the region.

For us Uganda is a nation that holds our future, as our national anthem states, but to our President, Uganda is nothing more than a land mass over which he has control, and all the resources therein belong to him and his immediate family. The real fight is for our country, especially, for it’s resources which have been taken captive by one family.”

In September this year, Kabuleta launched NEED- a political movement aimed at promoting economic empowerment among Ugandans.

Unveiling the political movement, the former journalist said NEED is constituted of politicians who currently hold no office but have influence in their respective sub-regions and are able to start meaningful discussions that shall see Ugandans fight for their resources.

Naava Grey performs on the Tusker Malt Conversessions show

By Our Reporter

The second edition of the Tusker Malt Conversessions, an online musical series that went live on Sunday evening can only be described as a remarkably thrilling serenade from songbird Naava Grey.

Music enthusiasts are treated to 38 minutes of uninterrupted premium content from the Afro-Soul goddess as she keeps the audience locked and engaged during her tell-all conversession about her trials and tribulations in the music industry.

“It’s passion that keeps driving me to do my music till today, otherwise I would have given up, because who writes a song and it still hits the same way 10 years later,” shared Naava Grey during one of the music interludes.

According to Grey, she has had to grow a harder shell against all the negative comments directed towards her, which has made her stronger, more independent and able to stand her ground.

Ugandan Basketball gets new home as FUBA partners with Next Media Services

By Our Reporter

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations last week entered a long-term partnership with Next Media Services, which was announced at a press briefing at the Next Media Park in Naguru.

The new partnership sees Next Media Services earn exclusive broadcast and digital rights for all major basketball competitions run by the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) – from top tier national basketball leagues for both the men and women to the lower divisions, schools’ events and more.

Speaking at the launch of the partnership, Next Media’s Chief of Strategy, Joseph Kigozi, said, “Today is the start of something great, a big step for us as Next Media and also for the game of Basketball. Partnerships are very important for the growth of any sport. There is a testimony with what we have done with the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the three years we have been in it, and we are still growing.”

“Now we want to shift the guns towards developing Basketball because it speaks to so many young people, is a pretty cool game, and has produced huge stars worldwide and locally,” Kigozi added.

FUBA president, Nasser Sserunjogi, re-echoed Kigozi’s sentiments, stating, “This partnership provides us an outlet for Basketball to take its place in our communities that have been starved of the action for long. We have a huge basketball community within the country, but we have not been able to tap into that, which I believe we shall now be able to.”

The biggest beneficiaries from the move, one would imagine, will be the players. Flavia Oketcho, arguably Uganda’s single-most decorated player, said, “As a player, I am so excited because what we look to do is not only play the game of basketball, but to also change the lives of young girls and boys, and with the coverage that comes with a partnership with such a huge media group, more inspiring and positive stories can be told far and wide.”

FUBA activities now join, among others, the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on the journey to making sports big in Uganda through the Next Media ecosystem.

Over 7,000 receive COVID-19 vaccine shots in Buganda Kingdom’s vaccination drive

At least 7,500 people have received their COVID-19 vaccine shots in a vaccination drive held by Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) in partnership with Buganda Kingdom. The activity was the first of its kind with a cultural institution and received an overwhelming turn-out in response to the call by the Katikiro to the public to show up in large numbers at Bulange, Mengo and get vaccinated to facilitate full reopening of the economy.

“The turnout and response of the public has been massive this weekend. We are grateful for the support of the Buganda Kingdom as we work together with government to strengthen the public health response to the pandemic. We remain committed to exploring unique partnerships that will increase accessibility to COVID-19 vaccines and make it safe and convenient for the public to get vaccinated,” said Jackie Tahakanizibwa, Corporate Relations Manager, Uganda Breweries Limited.

The event provided several mobile vaccination stations in one location to enable those who needed to receive their 1st or 2nd shot to get it with ease with Pfizer, Astra Zeneca and SinoVac doses available.

Over the past 2 months, UBL and Coca Cola have supported the scaling up of COVID-19 vaccines extending mobile vaccination sites to bars, markets and public centers within the greater Kampala Metropolitan area. The drive has also focused on public sensitization to drive awareness of the benefits of vaccination as a measure against the prevailing pandemic.

The initiative compliments efforts by Uganda Breweries under the Bell Raising the Bar program, a USD 1 million fund established to prepare the hospitality industry for safe reopening by establishing health measures and providing essential training to boost their capacity to reopen their businesses under the respective national guidelines.

“We intend to continue to work with the Buganda Kingdom to extend vaccination to more locations of convenience within the kingdom. We will also continue to work with cultural institutions around the country to ensure we drive up the number of the vaccinated population for health and economic well being. Economic recovery remains hinged on vaccination that will enable easing of restrictions that are currently impacting business recovery,” Tahakanizibwa added.

“Vaccination remains the strongest response to this pandemic and a full return to normal. I commend all the subjects of His Majesty that have turned up in big numbers to Bulange and embraced vaccination,” Al Hajji Dr. Twaha Kawaase Kigongo, the Deputy Katikiro of the Buganda Kingdom said.

Due to public demand, one vaccination site has been left behind at Bulange to cater to those that are yet to receive their vaccines, to run up to Friday 12th November, 2021.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, the total doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered so far stand at over 3.3 million.

By Our Reporter

I&M Group PLC has today officially launched its rebranded operations in Uganda, following its acquisition of Uganda’s Orient Bank Ltd on 30th April 2021. The Ugandan bank will now operate as I&M Bank (Uganda) Limited and adopt the Group’s vibrant corporate logo and colours.

The Nairobi-based financial Group announced that the rebrand comes after the I&M Group’s successful acquisition of a 90 per cent shareholding in Uganda’s Orient Bank Ltd earlier this year. This received regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Kenya, Bank of Uganda, Capital Markets Authority of Kenya as well as the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and is part of the Group’s broader strategy to grow its business by increasing its geographical footprint across the Eastern African region.

“The rebrand will not only unlock the bank’s potential, but also will enable it to reach out to more customers within Uganda, and in Eastern Africa as a whole. Further the move will enable the bank to roll out a more diversified product and service offering to its target market,” said Mr. Suleiman Kiggundu, the bank’s chairman.

Also speaking during the rebrand event, Mr. Kumaran Pather, the bank’s CEO said that I&M Uganda will focus on supporting critical sectors that impact growth across the region, including agriculture, transport, technology and manufacturing through offering attractive, digital-focused solutions. “I&M Group Plc and its subsidiaries have made significant investments in key sectors across Eastern Africa’s regional economy, including banking and finance, SMEs, real estate, financial technology, trade, agriculture, and infrastructure,” said Pather

“The rebranding is the latest step in an operations overhaul which has been ongoing for the last one year and has included retraining of staff, enhancing customer relations and upgrading its core banking system.” Mr. Pather noted, further adding that, “I&M Group has made significant investments in its technology infrastructure as part of its digital transformation journey in the region. Reflecting its commitment to its clients and the markets it serves, the bank and its staff have invested significant time and resources to refine the new I&M Bank brand and to seamlessly integrate new platforms and offerings.”

“We are extremely excited to announce today’s launch and rebrand, aligning our digital capabilities as well as our brand elements to keep pace with our industry leading achievements and our unique products and services within the East African region,” concluded Mr. Pather.

The entry of I&M Group into the Ugandan market was the missing link towards consolidation of the Group’s presence in East Africa and further positions the Group as Eastern Africa’s Leading Financial Partner for Growth through providing its target groups with innovative and market-driven banking solutions across the region.

To be able to discern and articulate great from lackluster wine quality is rare. Even more scarce in Uganda are sommeliers; the seasoned type whose palates wield professional capacity wine tasting verdicts. The ones who can effortlessly catch a whiff of good (or bad) life just by sniffing off the edges of a wine glass.  Which is why when launching in Uganda, the team of Avaland Wine, a premium wine sought out the services of a select few sommeliers from the different high-brow societies of Uganda. The result was a sequence of great dining and wining experiences. After what seemed like a country wide tour,  many attested to the fact that Avaland wine is, indeed, a premium wine made for the noble.

Like the bottle says, Avaland Wine is made for kings. The sweet red is magical. It touches, soothes and inspires. The White Sweet is undoubtedly something special as well. Such great aroma. Such heavenly taste. It is something you taste and think about luxury living. It is a bottle you take with when flying out of the country, because what if they don’t have the best wine in the world where you are going,” exclaimed Nancy, a seasoned wine connoisseur.

She said this during an interview with this website at one of the few exclusive Wine Tasting events held by Uganda’s first premium wine Avaland Wine as a way of launching to the public officially.

Speaking at one of the wine tasting experiences, the CEO of Avaland Wine, Andrew Mukalere said they’ve decided to enter the market with the most revered brands.

It takes concerted effort to produce a great quality. It takes the effort of the manufacturer, and the effort of the consumer. The manufacturer has got to understand what the consumer needs. In the case of Avaland wine, the consumer has got to have good taste. If they want the finer stuff in life. If they are all about luxury and the finer fabrics of life’s ever changing tides, then they are the ones we manufactured Avaland Wine for. It’s a great wine for great people. Avaland Wine is made for kings,” explained Mukalere, the CEO of Avaland Wine.

Avaland Wine is a premium fruit wine manufactured with high quality local sourced fruits. The premium  wine is packaged in two forms, White Sweet and Red Sweet. It is available in select supermarkets, hotels, restaurants and bars across the city. It is also available for ordering on Jumia. To order online for deliveries, call 0706513514.

MC Kats hosts a guest on Amasengejje

By Our Reporter

Following the latest regulations by regulator Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), NBS Television came up with an extension of their daily 7 PM bulletin, “Amasengejje,” to include an Entertainment news segment.

Over the last couple of weeks, the news extension has seen entertainment news fitted into the popular news bulletin, with now-former Uncut host and budding politician Annatalia Oze taking on the role of news anchor for the rather formal segment, and celebrated TV legend MC Kats, taking on the role of field interviewer.

When approached for comment, Desire Derekford Mugumisa, Next Media’s Head of Brand and Communications, shared, “To wholly deprive our viewers of entertainment news, especially with our ability, both in technology and human resource, was always going to be a disservice to our viewers, and management is proud of the innovativeness exhibited by the team in complying with our regulations, while also fulfilling the needs of our viewers.”

While speaking on NBS Television’s Live@9 bulletin earlier, Next Media Chief Strategy Officer, Joseph Kigozi, had also commented, “Our adjustments as a whole are for the better – platforms such as the Afro Mobile app have come in handy especially for those that cannot access television at that time to live stream the like of Uncut, now on Sanyuka at 10 PM, and have seen us already recording greater viewership benefits for them, our partners and investors on these platforms.”

The Amassengejje Entertainment News segment airs starting about 7:45 PM on NBS Television every weekday.

Prudential Uganda has donated UGX 350 million towards supporting communities that have been affected by COVID-19.

The team at prudential led by Mr. Arjun Mallik, CEO, Prudential East, and Central Africa, poses for a group photo with the team from HOPE and StrongMinds Uganda during the official handover of the Covid-19 Relief Fund at Prudential’s head office in Kampala.

By Our Reporter

Prudential Uganda has donated UGX 350 million towards supporting communities that have been affected by COVID-19.

This fund will go towards providing food relief to 3000 primary and secondary school teachers in Eastern Uganda who have been impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic; and providing interpersonal psychotherapy to 1500 vulnerable working adults in Kampala aged 18 years and above, whose mental wellness has been affected by the COVID-19.

Prudential Uganda is carrying out this initiative through implementing partners; Humanitarian Operations Projects & Emergencies (HOPE), a none profit humanitarian and development organization focusing on humanitarian aid in Africa; and StrongMinds Uganda, a mental health support organization which provides free, group talk therapy to low-income women and communities.

“Our Purpose is to help people make the most of life; and no better way to do this, than to stand with them in their most trying times. Last year, when the pandemic broke out, as a company whose values are hinged on improving people’s lives, we reached out to the most vulnerable in the slums of Kampala and Mbarara providing food relief. After careful and thoughtful study, we made the decision to support primary and secondary school teachers who have not had gainful employment since schools were closed in 2020 and the vulnerable working adults with depression because of the COVID-19 for a period of 6 months,” said Arjun Mallik, CEO, Prudential East and Central Africa, while addressing guests at their head office in Kampala.

While receiving the fund on behalf of HOPE, Emmanuel Kashaija, the Country Director, noted that Primary and secondary school teachers whose salaries depend on parents’ contributions were hard hit by the lockdown that is meant to curb the spread of COVID-19 and appreciated Prudential for coming through to support them.

“For almost two years, many teachers have not been working and coming out to give them food is a demonstration to them that we are standing together with them and wish them the very best until the re-opening of schools, which we trust is soon,” he said.

According to StrongMinds Uganda Director Peter Okwi, up to 25% of the women and adolescents living in the vulnerable communities suffer from depression. Despite one in four suffering from depression, the services to treat these individuals are limited.

“StrongMinds will address the urgent mental health needs of vulnerable populations aged 18 years working in both the formal and informal sectors of Uganda’s economy by providing remote messages of support and access to free teletherapy, thereby filling a large gap in services for this population,” said Peter Okwi.

This COVID relief fund has been provided by Prudential Uganda with the support from the Prudence Foundation, the community investment arm of Prudential plc in Asia and Africa, and Chairman’s Challenge, Prudential’s flagship international volunteering programme, that brings together people from across the Group to help their communities.

The construction of Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) is in the final stages of completion.According to Roko Construction spokesman, Bernard Muhangi, the client Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSU) is happy with the quality of works, refuting allegations made over the weekend that the Government was in the final stages of terminating the contract over shoddy work.Roko has a running contract with the Government of Uganda represented by Private Sector Foundation Uganda to construct the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) phase one.“Notably, the client had secured funds for phase 1 which constituted Construction of a Hotel block, a demonstration kitchen, laundry house, Gate houses, power house, external works and electrical reticulation, garbage collection house and mechanical reticulation,” Muhangi said.He added “Roko is currently finalising with phase one works and the remaining 10% of the works shall be deferred to the additional second floor works.”Muhangi said the allegations published in the local media on Monday 8th November alleging shoddy work and progress at 50% are untrue but ‘targeted towards tarnishing Roko’s reputation’. “It’s really very disturbing to note that a building whose electricals, finishes and civil works are complete is at 50%. This is not a standard engineering measure; It’s absolutely not true that progress is at 50%.”“Current progress is at 90% and this can be clarified by the consultants’ progress reports to the client,” he said. He revealed with additional funding, the client expressed interest to construct an additional floor (second Floor) of approximately 2,010 m2 with the associated civil works, mechanical and electrical installations.“With the additional floor, some works couldn’t be completed as they shall be affected during construction of the new floor and such works shall be deferred to the additional floor works (Phase one Additional Floor works) for example the finishes to some rooms, stairs, corridors and other access areas, mechanical installations and equipment that can only be installed on the completed second floor roof slab plus the ducting and conduiting, electrical final fixes and external finishes,” Muhangi explained. On quality issues, the mouthpiece said Roko Construction Limited would never, compromise on quality as ‘this is our core value and that’s what we stand for’.“Stating that the building is of poor quality is utterly false as there are always processes of getting samples and approvals as well as test reports for whatever material that is installed or fixed.”

Muhangi said Roko is ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management Systems) certified. He said there is a team of consultants who are professionals in the construction industry and have been monitoring and inspecting works executed and have not raised any red-flag to do with the quality of works. “There are always quality checks made for all the structural components and finishes as well as services on this project. We condemn such statements that are intended to tarn Roko’s reputation in the market,” he warned. He admitted that Roko like any other company in the world has had some challenges as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, he quickly noted that despite such challenges, the company has never compromise on quality. “There were delays on completion for which extension of time claims were evaluated and granted accordingly. Extensions are never granted without good contractual reasons,” he added. The company also dissociated itself from a one Benson Blasi who has been making statements in the media.“Blasi has never worked for Roko and can’t represent the company interests. This is fraudulent and intended to spoil our reputation. We condemn and demand that such statement with ill intentions targeting Roko without any basis and facts be retracted immediately,” he said. BACKGROUND In 2018, government of Uganda received financing from the International Development Association (IDA) toward the cost of the Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP), and it applied part of the proceeds (UGX11bn) of this credit to payments under the Contract for the Construction of the Uganda Hotel Tourism and Training Institute (UHTTI) on Plot 3 and 5 Nalufenya Road, Jinja, Uganda.Roko Construction Ltd (Main Contractor) entered into a contract with the Government of Uganda represented by Private Sector Foundation Uganda to construct the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) phase I on 7th March 2018.The site was handed over to Roko on 10th April 2018 for commencement of works for a construction period of 12Months and completion by 10th April 2019. Extension of time awards at no cost were given to 30th August 2019, 13th December 2019 and 14th February 2020 respectively due to Variations and additional works to the contract.Furthermore, due to the effects of Covid-19, restrictions and directives, the contractor’s operations and cash flow was affected and extension was granted with no costs up to 30th September 2020 and 9th January 2021 to implement mitigative measures, completion was further jeopardized by the second wave of Covid-19 in the country and the expected completion of phase 1 works is this year.
