Nile Breweries, Uganda’s leading beer company through its flagship brand ‘Nile Special has donated a cheque worth 3,000,000/= to Mountain Slayers Uganda Club to purchase equipment for the Bakonjo mountain guides.

According to Ms. Amou Majok, Marketing Lead – Uganda, the donation follows Nile Breweries being thrilled after seeing its 50 years old flagship brand, Nile Special at the peak of Mt. Rwenzori.

This was recently on September 5th, when a group of 13 men and 13 ladies under MSU travelled to Kasese, the home district of Mount Rwenzori, located on the border of Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The highest peak of Rwenzori is 5,109 meters and it is here that Anthony Natif took a photo with the Nile Special bottle, taking it to great heights with a stunning caption hailing the Nile Special brand.

At MSU, we are all about enjoying and showcasing the beauty that Uganda has to offer. And it does have a lot of gems! To that end, we aren’t shy about showing off brands we consider true representations of the Ugandan experience. Nile Special is a quintessential Ugandan brand, loved and enjoyed by millions. It also happens to be the most popular beer in the club. We take pride in it. When Mountain Slayers Uganda organized a Rwenzori expedition, it was a perfect opportunity for us to showcase Nile Special against the backdrop of the highest peak of the most beautiful mountain not only in Uganda but in Africa. We were careful to ensure the bottle was nicely wrapped and tucked deep inside my daypack so it wouldn’t easily break or the contents freeze throughout the 5 days of climbing that it took to get to Margherita. It worked and we were thrilled to share that picture with the world!” Anthony Natif said.

It was then that Nile Special got in touch with Mr. Anthony Natif after seeing the social media conversation his actions stirred.

Mr. Anthony Natif humbly requested Nile Special to give a donation to the Mountain Slayers Uganda Club so that they can buy equipment for the Bakonjo mountain guides.

Nile Special Uganda’s leading beer brand has been the flagship brand for Nile Breweries for the last 50 years. We were humbled to see the Nile Special bottle at the peak of Mt. Rwenzori.  We got in touch with Mr. Anthony Natif after seeing the social media conversation his actions stirred.  He humbly requested that we give a donation to the Mountain Slayers Uganda Club so that they can buy equipment for the Bakonjo mountain guides,” said Ms. Amou Majok, Marketing Lead – Uganda.

The cheque was handed over to Ms. Amou Majok at Nile Breweries Ltd, Head Office, Portbell Road, Luzira.

Mountain Slayers Uganda is a hiking club that was formed in 2015 to promote hiking and outdoor lifestyle among Ugandans of all demographics.

The club started with six (6) founding members and has now grown to 80 (eighty) active members and still counting. Every six weeks, a hike is organized and once a year a recognized mountain is climbed.

Mr. Paul Lumala, the President Mountain Slayers Uganda (MSU) said, “Mountain climbing is a once in a lifetime experience; you forge lasting bonds amongst each other, being in the wild and having only each other to rely on for safety. With the activities performed we hope to inspire a whole generation to embrace the wild as their first choice of fun weekends and getaways.

We are most likely to have a taste of a fresh and fatty social media battle that the country has not experience in 2020.

This is between two of the most followed Ugandan celebrities on social media Sheila Gashumba and Bad Black.

The verbal war escalates following Bad Black demeaning Sheila’s renowned work of products and brand influencing.

Taking it to her Snap Chat, the proud sexual worker questioned Sheila job that has uplifted her career for many years now.

Bad Black proved confused about Sheila’s highly exalted influential responsibilities given the fact of her personal weakness like; dropping out of school, aborting, dating crooks, dressing in skimpy clothes, social battling everyone, abusing former employers, and backstabbing friends.

Who does Sheila Gashumba Influence? Simububi. She influences them to do What? Drop out of school? Abort, date crooks, dress skimpy, social climb everyone? Abuse former employers? Backstab friends, WHAT AND WHO DOES SHE INFLUENCE?” Bad Black wrote.

Bad Black defended herself of her popularized work of influencing single mothers, prostitutes and Uganda government.

Atleast Bad Black influences single Moms, Ex-convicts, prostitutes, even government if Uganda emumanyi,” she added.

This comes in a few weeks after Sheila Gashumba landing another multi-million deal with YoKuku Uganda, a company dealing in tastiest and most affordable brand of fresh and frozen chicken.

With just a few days to the NRM primaries in Mawogola sub-county, violence has rocked the area again with members of Sodo’s camp accusing the rival camp of using thugs to beat them up. This comes amidst heavy police deployment in the area, in anticipation of the forthcoming election.

In a video that has been circulating on social media, an unidentified man, alleges that he was beaten to pulp by members of the Sam Kuteesa camp, over what he claims is election related, as he belongs to the opposing camp of NRM aspirant Godfrey Aine Kaguta alias Sodo.

The man called on the president to intervene in the matter, calling for change in the area’s leadership, in order for much needed peace to prevail in the area.

Tensions are high in the area, particularly between the two rival camps of Godfrey Aine Kaguta and Ms Shartsi Musherure, the daughter to the Foreign Affairs Minister and incumbent Mawogola North MP Sam Kutesa, who are both vying for the position of NRM flag bearer, alongside Kiseeka Salim.

Uganda commemorates World Contraception Day

By Our Reporter

Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate the World Contraception Day on Saturday which was held under the theme “Lets roll back the teenage pregnancy crisis in Uganda”.

In Uganda, the contraceptive prevalence rate is at 26% (UDHS 2016) with 18% of married women using modern methods, while 6% use traditional methods.

In addition, contraception awareness remains still wanting as 25% of Ugandan adolescents aged 15 – 19 years already started child bearing and have given birth or are pregnant with their first child.

However, all is not gloom as service providers like Mariestopes also continue to provide high-quality, sexual and reproductive healthcare products for people in locations that are convenient.

Marie Stopes UG, one of the largest and most specialized sexual and reproductive health organization in Uganda, has for the past 30 years provided approximately 60% of contraception in Uganda to Ugandan women, men and young people in the under-served communities, that are predominantly young, living in poverty, residing in hard-to-reach rural locations and urban slums.

Teopista Nalyazi Tendo, one of the team leaders of the Marie Stopes mobile teams that serve clients in remote areas across Uganda says that the COVID – 19 pandemic has however affected their work greatly as they were unable to provide the family planning services as they were doing before.
