L-R: NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba and deputy MD Patrick Ayota hand over a dummy cheque to Dr, Ruth Aceng the Minister of health, Prof. Ponsiano Kaleebu MD Uganda Virus research institute and Susan Nabadda, ED Uganda National Health Laboratory Services

By Our Reporter

NSSF has donated 5,000 Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing kits worth over Ushs 381 million shillings to the Ministry of Health, of which Ushs 60 million has been contributed voluntarily by individual NSSF employees.

Procurement is being undertaken in conjunction with the Uganda Virus Research Institute and delivery of the kits is expected in the next few days.

NSSF Managing Director Richard Byarugaba said that the Fund is responding to a call by the Government and health experts that testing for the coronavirus is one of the most important steps in combating the spread.

“Our decision to donate testing kits is informed by the model Government is employing in combating the coronavirus, which is an emphasis on testing as many suspected cases as possible, as well as their contacts. In addition, the World Health Organisation has also emphasised the need to escalate testing,” Byarugaba said.

“Given the advice from health experts, a significant number of people who test positive for Coronavirus are asymptomatic. It is therefore obvious that there is a critical need to test as many suspected cases as possible in Uganda to control the spread of the disease,” he added.

The Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng appreciated the Fund for supporting Government efforts and responding to the call and underscored the need for enhancement of Uganda’s coronavirus testing capacity.

“We are taking a comprehensive approach in the fight against Coronavirus. But we recognise that in order to stop transmission of the disease, we have to test and treat those infected. Testing allows us to quickly know who has contracted disease,” she said.

Zahara Toto enjoying quality time with boyfriend Reuben Robert recently.

By Our Reporter

All is not well with Zahara Toto and her her boyfriend, Reuben Robert. This after our snoops learned that the couple was involved in a nasty fight last weekend.

According to our snoops, Reuben is said to have hit his head hard on the floor during the fight and is now nursing severe injuries.

He has since been admitted to an undisclosed hospital in town and currently receiving treatment.

Although the cause of the fight remains unknown, it is believed the two could have fought over Zahara’s philandering ways.

The two have been dating for a long time, however, Zahara has never been committed to the relationship.

Not so long ago, Zahara was involved with Sudanese businessman, Don Solo and some say she continues to see him secretly, even after rekindling his relationship with Reuben.

It’s time up! By Sandra Musimenta

“After all they have done for you?”.This is a statement that has kept people in relationships that are draining the life out of them.

It has kept people at jobs they dread going to every morning.

It has kept people’s lips sealed on the physical and emotional pain inflicted on them.

It has held people in slavery.

It has locked up the door to freedom for thousands.

It has covered people in fear to take what is rightful meant for them.

It has silenced young children from speaking up on things that later damage them the more as adults.

It has given manipulators so much power to even source for more victims.

It has got people locked up in jail for crimes they did not commit.

It has kept people from reaching their destiny or fulfilling their purpose in life.

I can go on and on.

It seems like just a statement until you think deep into it and connect it to your situation and how you relate with people. You will be astonished to realise that you have a good number of people you tolerate, try to impress, always avail yoursef for, work for, hangout with, can never say NO! to simply because you feel you owe them.

Maybe they stood in the gap when you lost your parent, maybe they gave you a job when you dint have one, provided shelter at a time when you were homeless, offered a meal, paid tuition for you or your child, anything that pulled you out of the terrible ordeal.

May God bless them for having such a heart(not many do).

But let me ask a genuine question? At what point in life do we finally pay off this debt.

Is it for the rest of our life,is it when we have finally got back on our feet and can give a token of appreciation? Is it when we accumulate a good amount of money and trade it back in monetary terms? Is it when the time comes and they need our help too?I would really love to hear different opinions on this.

Allow me share mine.First, this is a debt that can never be paid. Its more like saying, now that am an adult let me go back to day1 and pay back my parents every single penny spent on me😂😂😂.What a joke!

For most people that have been there for you in trying terms,it surely comes from a good place and they never plan it out that they will need a payback. But for you who has been helped, there’s always that feeling of need to do something in return as a gesture of appreciation.

But the best way i think you can pay back is be a better person. It would only be right that if i helped you in a time of need and you are in a better place.I would wish you excel at everything you set out to do and make me proud.Nothing is as beautiful as watching someone transform from grass to Grace and you were part of their story.

Sadly though, most people do not see it that way.Once they have rendered the help, you have been fully tagged as their “slave” and they your “master”.

So what ever it is you set out to do in life, they must be a priority and then your life and goals next.

You will have to serve them first and then cater to yourself,so don’t be upset when they are offended that you are not available.

What is that keeping you busy?(work)Had it not been them would you be busy?😣.

So every time you are trying to make your life goals, plans, strategies, you must put them into consideration and guess what.

This will only keep you planning with no execution from one year to another.Because the day you had set out to act on something major in your life, they needed you too to execute something for them.So yours had to be put on hold….I wanted to but i remembered that “After all they have done for me” ,i had to ran to their rescue.

Well, that is very thoughtful but when are you ever going to fulfil your own goals in life. When is it going to finally be about you and what you desire out of this life?Take time today and think about it but if you ask me,It’s now or never.

Time to thank whoever it is that picked you up at your lowest and re-focus on thy self.Set new plans, goals, strategies and make YOU the priority.Have faith, work hard and honest.Be humble at whatever level God elevates you to and never ever forget where you have come from.

I wish you the very best as you conquer your fears, learn to say NO without being afraid of who you are not pleasing but most importantly seek God’s guidance on everything that as you birth a new YOU💖💖

Africans retreat into homes on coronavirus, but scared about food

$

By Staff Writer

More than two-thirds of over 4,500 Africans reached by GeoPoll across 12 nations have reported they are self-quarantining to prevent the risks and spread of coronavirus.

Yet, as Africans retreat into their homes, they are worried about food and their economies to almost as great a degree as they are worried about the global pandemic.

In a survey administered remotely through GeoPoll’s mobile-based research platform, it was found that 80 per cent of respondents were frightened about coronavirus spreading in their countries, but 71 per cent said they were also ‘very concerned’ about its economic impact.

The degree of health fears in each nation appeared related to the level of quarantine now in place. For while 63 per cent of Africans believe they are at risk of contracting the virus, Rwandans judge themselves to be at the lowest risk, at 37 per cent, in a situation where 90 per cent have self-quarantined.

Conversely, in countries such as Mozambique and Zambia, which report lower rates of self-quarantining, citizens feel far more vulnerable, with over 80 per cent in each of these countries believing they and their families are at risk.

Such fears across nations with limited ICU capacity and often scant supplies of oxygen has wrought other changes of behavior, with 54 per cent of respondents increasing hygiene and hand washing, and 50 per cent avoiding public places.

There are also rising concerns over food supplies. Most of the Africans polled reported that they were shopping for food less often, while just 20 per cent reported that all food markets around them are currently operational. Additionally, more than 85 per cent of respondents in the DRC, Rwanda and Kenya have worried in the last seven days that they would not have enough to eat.

“A health crisis such as coronavirus hitting vulnerable populations can have devastating effects on development, food supplies and resources. Reliable data is needed to accurately track on-the-ground situations, and using our remote mobile methodologies GeoPoll was able to gather valuable information quickly and safely,” said Nicholas Becker, GeoPoll CEO.

“Some governments in Africa have been proactive about lockdowns in order to prevent the virus from quickly spreading through densely populated areas, but coronavirus is already present in many African nations, and this study shows there is a fear that the worst is yet to come.”

There is a growing concern that many nations in Africa are poorly prepared for a pandemic as easily transmissible as COVID-19. This has triggered widely different approaches and very different levels of public support. In Rwanda, 81 per cent of respondents believe their government has done enough to stop the spread of the virus, as do 60 per cent in Uganda, but in Zambia, Nigeria and Kenya, less than a third are confident enough has been done.

Mr. Eazi thrills fans at album listening party

By Our Reporter

On a Friday like this one, many of us would be gearing up for some great weekend fun. At the strike of 5pm, we would shut down our computers as we make those phone calls, send messages, drop pins so our buddies can join us, party hard, and later flood our social media timelines with ‘the weekend that was” photos of us having the time of our lives, letting off some steam after a long week on the grind.

However, that is not the case today as we have all taken a step back into our homes to wait for the world to heal. But who says we can’t have fun at home? We can do several things to help calm our raving waves of boredom as we stay home and stay safe. And yes! Music, like they say, heals the soul! It even gets better if you are an MTN TIDAL user!

The Tidal team at MTN, together with both local and international artistes have put together the most entertaining and groovy music playlists to keep you entertained while at home. On the Tidal app, you will find more lockdown playlists than you can consume. And the best part is there is something for everyone! And there is a play list for any mood; Partying, working, exercising, meditation, children’s music and of course the most amazing praise and worship music.

So while we keep indoors, let us live a little and turn up the music with TIDAL!

In case you didn’t get the memo, it is Friday. So feel the weekend set in as it should be. Get ready to unwind and kick off the “work” stress you could have gotten from the work days at home. Grab your favorite drink (thankfully we can order these) and sit back, chill and connect your phone to your speaker as you get the latest dance party playlists off tidal that will help with setting the mood. Don’t get shy to dance like you would if you were on a night out with the girls or the boys. Let’s look at the bright side, this time round, you won’t have to worry what time to order the Uber or how you get home. Absolutely no stress!

Stay home, but don’t forget to stay fit and in shape with TIDAL.

We wouldn’t want you to return to office after this lockdown out of shape simply because all you did was eat, sleep and eat some more. For long many have said work outs not only help in keeping the body fit and in shape rather can also be used as a stress reliever. It is no secret that workouts and music go hand in hand like bread and butter. Let Tidal’s invigorating work out playlists get you breaking a sweat as you whip yourself into shape. The world is waiting to meet your new hot body!

What is Sunday without some Inspirational music form TIDAL?

Your answer is as good as mine. Just another ordinary day. So make yours count by ending the week on a good soothing happy note. Close the week and start the new week in a good emotional place by streaming the best inspirational and gospel playlists from Tidal. So don’t miss out. Plug in and get spirit filled as you sing along in adoration of God as we pray and continue to intercede having faith that our creator will heal the world and rid us of this pandemic.

To catch up on all this fun, all you have to do is download the Tidal app from your google play store and get a free trial subscription. If you already have the app, just dial *165*66# and get a subscription of your choice and get grooving already. If you are street smart like me, then you already know that the subscription that comes with streaming data is the best! Go have a blast.

Thank God Its Friday!
