In the

fray of “Who Is Who” an answer called “Paper” has echoed into the charts.
If you are talking about the most consistent names on the African Continent, you have to mention these 3. Their contribution to Hip Hop and music in general in insurmountable and having hits as big as their classics would have seem impossible.
Navio started out with Artistes that have been given Legendary status and no longer release music, whilst both Navio and Ice Prince released arguably the biggest hits of last year- including Njogereza and “particular”. This has been the relentless pace of these 2 acts throughout the last decade. Hovering with full respect and the blessing of their fans between underground, Trap, classic, battle, traditional and commercial music.
Alongside The Mith who has had a slew of hits then took a JCole-esque turn to doing real Hip Hop which prompted one of the most record breaking Album sales released in UG history and faithful fan clubs, this “Paper” collaboration holds all of the tools for a smash hit with enough lyrical interplay to satisfy any fan of HipHop.
As Icon Studios flagship production, Paper was Produced by Mo Piano who has just hit his 20th Birthday. The new age futuristic trap sound is super fresh and clean. Mastered incredibly by Dawoo at Audio Central.
The video was shot and edited by the Film power duo Shiloh and Henix who kept in tune with the feel of the sub-muted bass lines and grungy sounds of the song.
Icon and Navcorp and proud to present the video for the brand new single “Paper” featuring Navio, Ice Prince and The Mith. Uganda and Nigeria’s finest

Isaiah Katumwa and Manu Dibango share the stage

By Our Reporter

If anyone ever wondered what you get when you line up three of Africa’s most accomplished artistes on one stage, the short answer- pure magic – was delivered in emphatic style at the Serena hotel on Monday evening.

On an occasion that fittingly coincided with the International Jazz Day, the annual Isaiah Katumwa Concert served jazz lovers in Uganda a first-hand treat of Africa’s jazz royalty in the form of two internationally acclaimed guest performers; Manu Dibango and Afro-soul songstress Siphokazi, who joined our own Isaiah Katumwa for a live performance many will remember for a long time.

The concert had been themed as a tribute to the departed South African maestro Hugh Masekela, who passed on in January this year. It was therefore fitting that a living legend, Cameroonian Manu Dibango was chosen as the guest performer to headline the event.

Revellers were reminded soon enough why the concert retains the tag of one of the country’s premier jazz affairs, as host Katumwa delivered more than half a dozen of his outstanding jazz tunes that earned the genre acceptance in Uganda’s music mainstream. Katumwa`s performance sandwiched the electric vibes provided by the South African Siphokazi’s Afro-soul mixes, setting the stage for the man of the evening – Manu Dibango. He did not disappoint.

The man best known for the 1972 single “Soul Makossa”, a song which influenced several hits including Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something”, was quick to take charge, enrolling an awestruck audience on a musical journey with a style, grace and authority only a man with 100 albums to his name and close to 50 years of recording under his belt could.

“Makossa” means dance in Dibango’s native tongue, and he sure had revellers up on their feet as he worked his saxophone, delivering several of his other works of beauty before Katumwa joined up with the 84-year- old virtuoso to create the evening’s crowning moment of musical bliss with a joint delivery of Soul Makossa.

There was never a dull moment, and with Johnnie Walker on hand to delight the palates of those in attendance, everyone who had made it to the Victoria Hall at Serena knew their money had been well spent. It was an evening which had lived up to the promise that a lineup of three award-winning artistes provides. The jazz enthusiasts present had, indeed, been blown away.

Rapper Navio has finally spoken out on why he didn’t participate in the ‘Who is Who’ battle that has seen rappers countrywide tearing each other apart for dominance.

Speaking about the battle, Navio assured fans that he is not into the habit of fighting with small boys. The Luga Flow star then revealed that at the moment he is concentrating on securing international collaborations since this was his plan for the first part of the year.

“I become an award winning artiste in East Africa by playing with small boys. I have left such things to them. I am busy securing international collabos. I have just had a song with Vanessa Mdee, I have also a new one with Ice Prince and many more with Chidima and Shey Shey are on the way. I cannot waste my time with the likes of Gravity.”

Asked what he thinks of Gravity’s Black Panther that was stinging him, Navio had this to say.

“Gravity Omutujju was my fan from way back. He was even in one of my fans groups and I used to see his messages. I don’t know if he got bitter for not getting a collabo back then or something but I don’t consider much of him. The problem is that he attacked my mother in his song yet everyone knows she is like the coolest person ever,”Navio said.

He then warned Gravity that young rappers are going to overtake him if he is not serious. “Fik Fameica and the boys are coming and they are not joking. They are very serious and if he doesn’t organise his house, he will be in trouble.”

We will keep you posted.

Not so long ago B2C singers, Julio, Bobby Lash and Mr Lee changed their concert date from Saturday, September 1st to Friday, August 31st. This showed the highest level of maturity after they found out that Swangz Ave had placed a conc

Chameleone Sheebah

ert on the same date  and they had an International Artiste Tarrus Riley flying in.

Fast forward, Sheebah and Chameleone find themselves in a similar situation. This after Chameleone announced that his concert will take place on November 30th this year. Sheebah also made it known that her concert will take place on the same date. Leaving a pending battle for fans to watch behind.

However, we predict as was the case with the B2C one of the artistes is going to pull out. And basing on who makes this wise decision, it will be the best since at this time we dont need any fighting in the indsutry. We have  already seen enough with the ‘Who is Who’ saga with some artistes abusing fellow artistes mothers.

Who will be the mature one? We cannot wait to find out and be the first to inform you!

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Public Affairs & Communications Director Simon Kaheru addressing media.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Public Affairs & Communications Director Simon Kaheru addressing media.

Plastic Recycling Industries, a Subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa has announced a plastic waste collection drive with Shisa Nyama, a weekly barbecue event. Under the partnership, Plastic Recycling Industries will provide plastic collection equipment at Zone 7, a popular restaurant, bar and lounge that hosts Shisa Nyama every Saturday.

The Shisa Nyama event and Zone 7 generate a large amount of used plastics weekly and have committed to ensure these plastics are diverted from landfills and sent to Plastic Recycling Industries for recycling instead.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Public Affairs & Communications Director Simon Kaheru thanked House Of DJs, organizers of Shisa Nyama, and Zone 7 Management for being responsible about environmental conservation.

“We are happy to create more partnerships and invite more event’s organizers and hospitality outlets to take the initiative and join us in ridding the environment of plastic waste,” Kaheru said.

“It is also gratifying that we are growing partnerships in plastic waste collection within the lifestyle-‘feel good moments’ category, which gives us the opportunity to sensitize revelers about waste segregation in a fun, casual environment,” he added.

Zone 7 Director Lotani Kagwa said the commitment to collect plastic waste was long term. “We have always been concerned about plastic waste being disposed wrongly and ending up in soil and in drainage. We have designated an area where we will collect plastics and separate them from other types of waste. Every week we will ensure that the Plastic Recycling Industries Team can collect them easily and recycle them,” he said.

House Of DJs Manager Afsa Umutesi said the campaign was timely and would go a long way in changing the events management landscape. “We are happy to form this partnership because it makes a major contribution to keeping Uganda clean and also protecting our environment. As event managers we must demonstrate responsibility by actually doing the right things. Eventually we will extend this collaboration to all events that we host and organize,” she said.

As Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), driving the initiative to collect plastics and help conserve the environment is vital to the quality of life of all communities in Uganda.

The philosophy behind Plastic Recycling Industries (PRI) is to take plastic waste out of the environment, reduce it, and re-use it as valuable products. While doing so, we not only protect the environment, but also create jobs for youth and women from underprivileged backgrounds who have found a livelihood in waste collection.

The Coca-Cola Company recently announced a new global packaging strategy and recommitted a “World Without Waste” target where -WE COMMIT TO HELP COLLECT AND RECYCLE A BOTTLE OR CAN FOR EVERY ONE IT SELLS BY 2030.

In Uganda, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Uganda is committed to achieve the 100% collection target ahead of 2030. “At Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Uganda, we are cognizant of the fact that for a Country to have a successful recycling program, it takes collective effort of several stakeholders. On this note, I would like to appreciate our partners KCCA and Masaka Recycling Initiative in walking with us on this journey. As PRI, we are ready to work with KCCA to put collection points at all public concerts and events going forward,” Kaheru said.
