In a compelling fusion of talent and purpose, Sautiana Records recently outed a groundbreaking production aimed at confronting societal challenges head-on. With a star-studded cast featuring industry luminaries such as singer Bruno K (Bruno Kiggundu), Comedian Salvador (Patrick Idring), actresses Muhawenimana Sarafinaand Esther Whitney, known for their roles in the hit series “Deception” – The Plight of an Innocent Soul,” the short film is set to tackle pressing issues including child abuse, domestic violence, sexual networks, and HIV/AIDS.

Under the direction of JD Kalenzi and with a story crafted by Alfred Anyoti, the narrative centers around the harrowing experience of baby Pamela, portrayed by Laura A. Okia, whose innocence is shattered by the horrors of abuse and disease. As viewers delve into Pamela’s world, they witness the heartbreaking consequences of a dysfunctional family plagued by violence and betrayal.

The storyline unfolds as Pamela, preparing for school one morning, is thrust into the chaos of her parents’, Steve (Bruno K) and Winnie (Sarafina) violent altercation. Seeking solace, she finds herself ensnared in a web of abuse at the hands of those entrusted with her care. Gerald, the askari at their home takes advantage of her innocence, takes her into his room with empty promises of watching cartoons. There, he rapes her and with forceful energy, she loses a lot of blood in the process.

Tragically, her innocence is stolen, and she becomes a victim of both physical and emotional trauma. As the plot unravels, the repercussions of Pamela’s ordeal reverberate throughout her family and community. It comes out that she was infected
with HIV AIDS by the Askari who had earlier infected her mother. Her mother had too infected her father who also infected the medical doctor where they went to seek treatment of their daughter.

The discovery of her HIV-positive status exposes a network of sexual entanglements, revealing the pervasive nature of the crisis gripping society. For Sautiana Records, this project represents more than mere entertainment; it’s a call to action. Executive Director Alfred Anyoti emphasizes the studio’s commitment to leveraging local talent for social good. “Our artists are not just entertainers; they are agents of change,” Anyoti asserts. “Through edutainment, we aim to reshape societal norms and foster a culture of empathy and understanding.”

In the wake of their recent short film endeavor, the visionary team at Sautiana Records is now setting their sights on a grander ambition: the creation of a television series with a mission to provoke societal introspection. The production company aims to shine a spotlight on the prevalent vices plaguing society today.

At the heart of their endeavor lies a profound commitment to illuminate the shadows cast by societal ills such as child upbringing, torture, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, and broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“We want to delve deeper into the narrative,” asserts Alfred Anyoti, the Executive Director of Sautiana Records. With a pool of talented actors and artists at their disposal, the company envisions leveraging their creative prowess to craft a series that juxtaposes the trajectories of children raised in troubled households against those nurtured in more stable environments.

By weaving edutainment into their storytelling, Sautiana Records aims to steer society away from the pitfalls of its own making. “Adults are a product of their upbringing,” Anyoti reflects, emphasizing the pivotal role that childhood experiences play in shaping individuals and, by extension, communities.

Dr. William Kibalya, a respected figure in Uganda’s social work sphere and the Director of Research and Development at Sautiana Records, underlines the urgency of their mission. “The statistics paint a grim picture,”he laments. “Cases of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS prevalence, and family breakdowns are alarmingly high.” Dr. Kibalya cites the perpetually
congested family court in Makindye as a stark reminder of the pervasive nature of these issues.

Drawing upon his expertise, Dr. Kibalya emphasizes the far-reaching consequences of dysfunctional family dynamics. “Children raised in unstable environments are more susceptible to adopting harmful behaviors,”he explains. “This cycle perpetuates a cascade of negative outcomes, from fractured familial bonds to the proliferation of risky sexual behavior and the subsequent spread of HIV/AIDS.”

By addressing the root causes through our series, Dr Kibalya hopes to stem the tide of suffering and create a brighter future for generations to come. Armed with a blend of artistic vision and social consciousness, Sautiana Records stands poised to challenge the status quo. Through their forthcoming television series, they seek not only to entertain but also to enlighten, igniting conversations that spark meaningful change, one storyline at a time.

“A short fiction on Ugandan folklore about resilience and redemption”

In the ancient kingdom of Buganda where the Bantu tribe resides. There roamed a joyous woman named Nantale, who fell for the charms of a native hunter whose name was Dembe. The couple united with the consecration of their families— engaged in native rituals for sustenance and sought an abode in the Mountain of Elgon through Bugisu in Buganda. They dwelled in harmony amongst the villagers aside for a wicked king of snakes that sought half of everything anybody earns.

When people fail to adhere to his demands he sent his guards with massive snakes to attack the dwellers of Bugisu. On a particular day Dembe was fed up giving half of his daily struggles and rebelled against the king of snakes, his pregnant wife, Nantale pleaded he comply with the demands to avoid troubles but he stayed stubborn.

After the sun had set, the king of snakes had not seen Dembe’s daily tax and grew furious—sending his goons into the hut of Dembe. Who ended up attacking two with an arrow bringing about a commotion in the village with the impression the king of snakes is soon to be conquered by a redeemer.

The king of snakes sent back his goons that escaped Dembe with bags of venomous snakes. They opened the sack into the window of his hut and the snakes attacked Dembe and his wife— Dembe died shortly and Nantale sustained deep injuries.

Their next-door neighbour, Amina asked her sons Amari and Dakari— to take Nantale to the forest and chant for the spirits of Kintu and Kibuka to help her. They appeared and Kintu gave her a mystical potion to help her recover, and Kibuka took care of her till she was fully recovered.

In the lunar month where the moon swallowed darkness. Nantale water broke and she delivered a boy, who was named Balondemu, he was raised by Kibuka as the spirit of Kintu paid its annual visit.

Nantale was as strong as a lioness, and wise as an old owl. She was waxed with nature and brought knowledge of Dembe’s death to the hearing of Balondemu who heard more tales about the king of snakes, a fearsome ruler that terrorized the kingdom of Buganda.

Balondemu felt destined to confront this mighty foe and succeed but was wise to seek guidance and training, but his mother Nantale could not provide this. In the coming evening, she sent him to Kibuka the old warrior who fell from the surface of earth and helped her recover in the forest.

Kibuka was moved by the bravery of Balondemu and enclosed him under his wing. Together, Kibuka and Balondemu embarked on a quest to train for the battle ahead. The days went by and Balondemu had learned how to use numerous weapons.

Under the watchful eyes of Kibuka and a visit from Kintu, the hunger for vengeance in Balondemu became fuel for strength. He learned the secrets of the King of Snakes, developed tactics to lace his agenda, and grew endurance to resist venoms and pain. Balondemu had been pronounced very strong, and set to attack the King of Snakes to deliver his village from the riddance of an evil ruler.

As soon as the day of resistance had come, the festive of Nyege Nyege when the King of Snakes would be least expectant of an attack as the people would be celebrating. Balondemu, walking with years of preparation in his mind, ventured into the palace of the King of Snakes with an unwavering determination to conquer.

A battle erupted Nyege Nyege festival, as Balondemu used his skills and magical knowledge of the King of Snakes’ weakness to strike at him. After a long struggle, Balondemu emerged victorious, forcing the King of Snakes into exile because of his defeat and bringing redemption to the doorstep of the kingdom of Buganda.

The villagers rejoiced because their dreams had come to pass and thanked Balondemu for his bravery and strength. Amina had passed but her sons Amari and Dakari recognized Nantale and thanked her for her son’s heroic accomplishment.

The tale of Balondemu: the conqueror, became a legendary saga of courage, guidance, and the triumph of good over evil. It reminded the villagers of the power of unity and the strength that can be found in unexpected friendships.

Ugandan singer Big Eye StarBoss has recently expressed his long-standing desire for a collaboration with renowned Nigerian artiste Davido. Despite their previous agreement to collaborate, logistical challenges and busy schedules have hindered their plans from materializing until now.

Big Eye revealed that he and Davido had discussed the collaboration long ago, but due to conflicting schedules, whenever Davido visited Uganda, Big Eye would be unavailable. However, with Davido currently in Uganda, Big Eye sees this as the perfect opportunity to finally bring their musical collaboration to fruition.

Davido, known as one of the foremost musicians in Africa, typically refrains from collaborations with artists from other African countries. His collaborations often align with artists who hold significant influence and prominence in their respective nations – a status that Big Eye does not currently possess in Uganda.

Nevertheless, undeterred by the discrepancy in their respective statuses, Big Eye remains steadfast in his pursuit of this collaboration. He emphasizes the longstanding promise of collaboration between him and Davido, citing it as a driving force behind his eagerness to make the collaboration a reality.

In light of his upcoming song release, Big Eye believes that Davido’s inclusion would elevate the track to new heights. He expressed his hopes for Davido to contribute a verse to the forthcoming song, recognizing the potential impact of Davido’s participation on its success.

Love and family dynamics often find their way into the spotlight, and singer Karole Kasita is no stranger to this phenomenon. Recently, she has stepped forward to address the ongoing disputes involving her alleged baby daddy, Feffe Bussi, and media personality DJ Jacob Omutuuze.

In a statement, the dancehall female singer expressed her stance on the matter, suggesting that engaging in public feuds would not bring happiness to Feffe Bussi. However, she did not shy away from clarifying certain points, particularly regarding DJ Jacob Omutuuze’s credentials as a disc jockey.

Karole Kasita emphasized that it is indeed true that Jacob is not a DJ, as claimed by Feffe Bussi. To settle the debate once and for all, she proposed a practical solution: providing Jacob with the necessary equipment and tasking him to mix a set of songs. This challenge, she believes, will determine his DJ skills definitively.

“I don’t think Feffe would even be happy if he found me engaging in such unnecessary beefs. But for a fact, I know that Jacob is not a DJ. Just give him a turntable and all the DJ equipment and ask him to mix ten songs. You will then have the real verdict.

Karole Kasita

The singer’s openness extended to her personal life, as she no longer hesitates to confirm her relationship with Feffe Bussi. She revealed that their shared sense of humor played a significant role in bringing them together, dispelling any doubts about their romantic involvement.

Moreover, Karole Kasita shed light on the impact of Feffe Bussi’s upcoming concert on their family dynamics, indicating their collective involvement and support for his musical endeavors. She also shared a heartwarming anecdote about her son, King, who exhibits a passion for music by dancing enthusiastically to her songs.

In conclusion, it’s evident that Karole Kasita and Feffe Bussi have embraced their relationship publicly, signaling a shift from their previous attempts to keep it under wraps.

Renowned Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone has broken his silence in response to the recent allegations of domestic violence made by his wife, Atim Daniella.

Earlier this week, Daniella disclosed that she sought asylum in the United States five years ago due to enduring domestic abuse for over 16 years.

The revelation by Daniella has ignited a flurry of reactions across social media platforms and public discourse, prompting discussions among both men and women regarding the sensitive issue of domestic violence.

In a recent interview on BBS TV, Jose Chameleone addressed the accusations, stating, “Every time there’s power or success, there is also power that brings setbacks. But that doesn’t hurt me, and I am not moved. For those that need details, please call her in America and ask her. But at the end of the day, I am doing my work. I am not an angel; I fail sometimes and succeed sometimes. My role now is to work, look for money for myself, my kids, and make myself happy. The rest I leave for God; he will judge.”

The couple, who had a lavish wedding in 2010, shares a family with five children.

While Daniella has been a vocal advocate against domestic violence on her social media platforms for years, many are now realizing the potential personal significance behind her advocacy efforts.

The public remains divided over the issue, with some expressing support for Daniella and others awaiting further details before passing judgment.

The unfolding situation has underscored the importance of addressing and confronting domestic violence within society, emphasizing the need for awareness, support, and effective solutions to combat this pervasive issue.

Ugandan singer Lydia Jazmine has recently found herself in the spotlight not just for her musical talents but for her unwavering confidence in embracing her imperfections.

A recent incident at Davido’s ‘Timeless Concert’ brought attention to Jazmine’s scarred thighs, sparking online discussions and, unfortunately, trolling.

During the event, Jazmine confidently flaunted her figure in short shorts, revealing her thighs. However, it was a subsequent online photo that captured widespread attention, specifically focusing on her scarred right thigh. The image prompted a barrage of negative comments and body shaming from online trolls.

Rather than succumbing to the pressure of societal beauty standards, Jazmine chose to confront the issue head-on. She courageously shared the story behind her scars, revealing that they were the result of a recent burn incident that occurred just weeks before her concert in March.

In the face of criticism and scrutiny, Jazmine made a powerful statement about self-love and acceptance. She declared her determination to embrace her scars, skin complexion, and imperfections, reaffirming her commitment to never bleach her skin.

As the headlines announce Swangz Avenue and Rotary’s monumental contribution towards education in Uganda, it serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when individuals and organizations unite for a greater purpose. The legacy of Gather for Impact will not only be measured in bricks and mortar but in the lives transformed through the gift of education.

In 2018, Ian Ortega had an interview with Juliana Kanyomozi that revealed something close and personal about Uganda’s musical Princess. Due to popular demand, the interview has been reproduced:

1. Who is Juliana Kanyomozi? How does she define herself?

Juliana is a simple African woman from Uganda who’s crazy about music.

2. Tell us more about your childhood? When and where were you born? What’s the most vivid memory you have of childhood?

I was born on November 27th 1980 in Kampala. As a child I remember growing up with my siblings in a small middle class family with very loving parents. I also remember being such an introvert. I still am!

3. How did you know that music is what you wanted to do? What was the reaction of everybody? How did it feel going against the mainstream views about music as a career at the time?

I knew right from the time I was about 6 years. I always stayed close to where music was and nothing else mattered in that moment. I wasn’t affected by other views as such, simply because my parents were the complete opposite. They were liberal and very supportive.

4. Which three musical personalities have had the most influence on you, how and why each of these?

Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Anita Baker among others. It was their outstanding voices.

5. Speaking songs. Looking back, what are those 3 songs that you’ve listened to over and over again? What’s the deep message about each of them that keeps drawing you to those 3 songs?

-Purple Rain by Prince. simply one of the greatest songs and artist of all time. Everything about it is just magical, not forgetting he (Prince) was a highly skilled guitarist.

-This Woman’s Work by Maxwell. I’ll play that song over and over and I won’t get enough of it. It’s music at its best.

-Till The End Of Time by Mariah Carey. From her vocal delivery to the arrangement. Just beautiful.

6. Speaking of loss. How do you handle loss? How have you healed in the course of Keron’s death? How would you advice others to deal with their own loss?

You don’t heal from the loss of your child. It’s the most heartbreaking thing to go through for any parent. My world literally came crushing down. You only learn how to survive through each day by the grace of God. My experience has been a very painful and personal one. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Keron. I thank God for strengthening me.

7. You are a Princess. Yet so down to earth? Where do you get this humility from?

I never really think about it like that. Lol. I’m just a normal person like anybody else, who happens to have been raised by wonderful very humble parents.

8. Speaking of parents. Who are your parents? What influence did each of them have on you?

My dad Prince Gerald Manyindo . Him and I were the best of friends. I could literally tell him anything cause raising us, he’d taught us to respect him but not be afraid of him. My dad and I both loved music so much so we had a lot to talk about. I miss him everyday.

My mum Mrs. Catherine Manyindo is literally my pillar of strength and my inspiration. I’ve watched her throughout my life and she’s the definition of superwoman. She can do it all. She’s taught me so much about being a woman. If I could be half the woman that she is, I’ll be happy.

9. So you start I-Jay, popular group then you two disband it? Did you ever get scared that maybe things could not work out on a solo path?

Absolutely. It was very scary. I was young and didn’t have a clear musical direction. But we knew from the start that it wasn’t gonna be a long term thing cause at some point Iryn was going to move to France. So in a way I was mentally prepared.

10. If you lost everything you’ve worked for, what would you do first? How would you handle it? How would you rise back?

Interesting question. We all deal with situations differently. But in life, usually when something so tragic happens, most important thing is to surround yourself with people who love you and are not afraid to tell you the truth, stay calm, keep a positive mindset and trust God.

11. What is the biggest failure you’ve had? How did you handle it? What did you learn from it?

I guess I’ve made a few wrong choices when it comes to the people in my life whether it’s in my career path, friendships or relationships. Being who I am, I’ve learnt that sometimes people want to associate with me to fulfill their own selfish gains. But I’ve used each of those experiences to learn from it and move on. When you know better you do better. I have a better sense of judgment now. I keep my circle very small now.

12. Do you have a morning routine? What is it like?

First I pray and meditate, then a bit of TV or read a book, then exercise sometimes, then breakfast.

13. What purchase of $100 dollars or less have most positively impacted your life in the last six months?

Mmmm some of my books.

14. What scares you the most and why?

I’m afraid of heights and water. It’s just a phobia.

15. Do you think there’s a purpose for our existence? Is it individual? How did you find that purpose for yourself and what is your purpose?

I believe we all have a purpose here on earth. To find your purpose You have to search within yourself and discover who you are. It starts there. I believe my purpose is to use my God given voice and position to inspire and touch people’s lives in one way or another.

16. What is the one thing that most people don’t know about you? What is the one assumption most people make of you?

I hate surprise birthday parties, or any other kind of surprises.

Also, people confuse my being introverted for being proud.

17. If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it, what would it say and why?

An imposing image of a “super woman”. To remind every woman that that’s what we are. We can achieve anything we set our eyes on.

18. If you had this moment where you could talk to the whole world, the whole of humanity at once for one minute, what would you tell the world?

I’d preach a message of love and tolerance. Imagine what the world would be like if we all just practiced that four letter word in its fullness. They’d be no racism, no rape, no terrorism, no murder, no hypocrisy etc.

19. What is an unusual habit or absurd thing that you love?

My addiction to my phone. Not sure that that’s unusual tho… but ya

20. What is the one thing you believe that most people would disagree with you on? Why do you hold that belief?

While marriage is a beautiful thing, It can be ruined if it’s done for the wrong reasons. It should be a personal decision, and done when you feel it’s the right person and the right time. Rather than doing it cause you’re trying please your parents and relatives. It’s about you and your partner. But I know some people may disagree. Depending on their beliefs.

21. What is the book you’ve re-read the most and why?

Many, but one of them is THE SECRET

It’s got a lot of life lessons.

22. What books do you recommend the most and why?

THE SECRET and NEVER EAT ALONE

They will change how you see things.

23. What are bad recommendations (pieces of advice) you often hear in your music profession being given out to upcoming artistes?

That you have to jump on every trend you see on tv in order to stay relevant. Whether it’s a music style or dance. A trend is just that, a trend. It goes away. While there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s not sustainable. You have to create your craft and make it you, be original, don’t be afraid to be different that’s where your power is. That’s how you create a long lasting career.

24. What advice would you give to a smart, young driven University student about to enter the real world? What advice should they ignore?

That experience will be the best teacher for them, so they need to hit the ground running. The failures will come, but they’ll also be an opportunity to learn what not to do again.

You shouldn’t listen to anyone who tells you you can’t make it.

25. What is the on thing you regret in life and why?

I have no regrets in my life. Everything happens for a reason.

26. What is that one moment where you judgement failed you? What did you learn?

I collaborated with someone I won’t mention and later learned that this was not a very good  idea. The person didn’t have good intentions. I’m now very cautious before I collaborate with anyone.

27. What is the one quote that speaks to you the most? And why?

“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction”

It teaches me to be mindful of every action I’m about to take.

28. Did you ever have any hardships early in life? How did this hardship prepare you for future success?

Yes I did. Some direct some indirect. But I learnt a lot of lessons that prepared me for the future.

29. Do you have a life philosophy, life rules and principles? How would you break these down for someone?

-I don’t spend time dwelling on my mistakes. But rather, I get up, dust myself up and keep going.

-We have one life to live, so I enjoy it to the fullest.

-I don’t pay attention to negativity. It adds no value.

30. You’ve managed to keep young, how do you maintain your body and health? What are those little unknown secrets?

I try to maintain peace of mind. I don’t give people with negative vibes a chance to consume me.

I try to maintain a healthy diet, drink a lot of water and exercise.

31. Should people do what they love and risk becoming broke? Or get practical and do things even though they hate them as long as it pays the bills? Passion or profit? And why?

I think you should do what you love, because you’ll do it to the best of your ability, hence paying the bills. In my experience at least.

32. Tell me about those people you’ve worked with and one or two things you learned from each of them?

-My manager Eddie Ndawula- His ability to withstand certain people with a bad attitude in our line of work is admirable. I learnt how to be patient in extreme situations.

I’ve learnt many other lessons from other people. But we’ll be here all day. Lol

33. When you think of success, which names come to your mind? Why makes each of those names successful to you?

A lot of names come to mind, from different fields. But what defines their success is not that they are very rich or famous, but that they fulfilled their purpose and calling.

34. What is something you know you should do but have not done yet?

I’ve been wanting to do another Christmas song for a while now. But something always comes up and I don’t do it. Hopefully I’ll record it soon.

35. Who do you say are those upcoming gems, below 30 that the world is yet to notice in the music industry? Who do you think are those great artistes that Uganda and the world is yet to tap?

There are many.. from Ykee Benda to Vinka to Lydia Jazmine to B2C.. the list is long, but one thing for sure, Uganda is endowed with a lot of talent.

36. What legacy do you want to leave behind? When it is all said and done, how do you want to be remembered?

I’d like to be remembered as someone who gave 150% to her craft.

37. What is the habit you are most trying to change at the moment?

I buy more books than I can read in a moment and take long to read them lol. I need to work on that habit.

38. Where do you see the Ugandan music industry in the next 50 years? What are those bold predictions you can make about the future of the industry?

Judging by the pace at which it’s moving and the immense talent we have, it’s going to continue getting bigger and better. We are coming for the world stage.

39. Speaking of music? What would you rank as your best musical creation and why? What song of yours summaries all your life advice to the world?

I love all my music. Each song is special in it’s own way. And specifically crafted with a special message. So love all of them.

In a recent Easter Day sermon, Pastor Aloysious Bujingo, the lead pastor of House of Prayer Ministries, expressed deep concern over former gospel singer and pastor Julie Birungi Mutesasira’s decision to embrace a lesbian lifestyle in Canada.

Pastor Bujingo condemned what he described as Mutesasira’s abandonment of her faith in Jesus Christ.

Julie Mutesasira made headlines in 2020 when photos of her wedding to another woman circulated on the internet, shocking many in the public.

Having officially announced herself as a lesbian and based in Canada since 2016, Mutesasira’s journey has been a subject of both fascination and controversy.

The former gospel singer, who had previously been married to Pastor Steven Mutesasira before their divorce, shared photos and a message of love and gratitude with her partner Jean in 2022, marking their 7th Marriage anniversary.

However, this celebration has drawn criticism from religious leaders and acquaintances alike.

Pastor Bujingo, known for his outspoken views, delivered a poignant message during his Easter sermon, lamenting Mutesasira’s perceived departure from her Christian faith. “We have seen many of those who were singing for Jesus like Julie Mutesasira have abandoned Jesus Christ in order to have citizenship in Canada,” he stated. “The sins of a parent shouldn’t be blamed on the child. Until Julie stands and turns back to Jesus Christ, but apparently its on hold as she is now a lesbian as she escaped from Uganda, a country that condemns gays. My message in all this is for you to remember where you came from.

Julie Mutesasira is not only a former gospel singer and pastor but also the mother of the prominent young Ugandan singing duo “Esther and Ezekiel,” who gained recognition for their success in competitions such as East Africa’s Got Talent and Canada’s Got Talent.

The reactions to Mutesasira’s life choices highlight the ongoing debate surrounding LGBTQ+ rights and religious beliefs in Uganda and beyond.

While some view her decision as a personal freedom, others, like Pastor Bujingo, perceive it as a departure from faith and tradition.

As Mutesasira continues her journey, her story serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding faith, identity, and acceptance in today’s society.

We will keep you posted

This is our way of spreading joy and sharing the blessings of Ramathan with everyone,” he said.
