MTN Foundation, the charity arm of MTN Uganda, has handed over a newly constructed classroom block and staff quarters to Bigodi Secondary school and Rwengobe Primary School respectively.

The project was funded by MTN Foundation and implemented through Promoting Equality in African Schools (PEAS), a non-government organisation dedicated to improving access to quality education in Uganda.

MTN Foundation through this project which cost nearly UGX350million, constructed and furnished a 3-classroom block at Bigodi Secondary School to create adequate learning space for the students.

The project also saw Rwengobe Primary School receive newly constructed staff quarters with the capacity to accommodate 6 teaching staff and the Head Master of the institution.

According to Wim Vanhelleputte, the MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer, who was speaking at the official handover of the schools in Kamwenge, by undertaking this initiative, MTN is fulfilling its commitment to the people of Uganda to continually support and contribute towards the socio-economic development of the country.

“We believe that this classroom block will alleviate challenges of congestion and limited learning space for the students while also creating an enabling environment for learning. Through this project, MTN also hopes to create positive impact with ripple effects culminating into the social and economic
development of the country,” he noted.

Information from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics 2021 abstract indicates that Kamwenge district has the third highest student to classroom ratio in the Western and South-Western region of Uganda. This implies that the district has the third highest number of students per classroom in the entire region after Sheema and Bundibugyo.

In addition, the abstract indicates that secondary school enrolment has reduced by 6% from 1.4m in 2016 to 1.3m in 2017.

The research spells out the need for increased efforts towards creating an enabling environment in secondary schools to encourage student enrolment.

Outgoing RDC Kamwenge district Martin Mugabe (l), Wim Vanhelleputte, MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer (c) and Godfrey Mutabazi, former Executive Director UCC (second right) cut the ribbon at the newly constructed 3-classroom block at Bigodi Secondary School surrounded by school and district officials in Kamwenge district.

With about 28 schools in Uganda, supporting over 1500 students to access quality education, PEAS continues to play a key role in improving the education sector in the country.

MTN Foundation has over the years invested heavily in improving infrastructure across schools in Uganda such as constructing classroom blocks and sanitary facilities at Kichwamba PEAS School in Kabarole, Noble PEAS High School and Aspire PEAS School in Ibanda district which has positively impacted thousands of students in the Western region.

While delivering his remarks, the Guest of Honour, the Outgoing Resident District Commissioner, Kamwenge district, Martin Mugabe lauded MTN Uganda for its support to the education sector in the Western region of Uganda noting it will play a critical role in alleviating some of the challenges faced by schools in the country.

“Teacher absenteeism is also another challenge that still persists within the education sector in Uganda. A World Bank report dubbed: the Global Corruption report in 2013 named Uganda as the country with the third highest rate of teacher absenteeism in the world, standing at 27%, yet the global ceiling is 30%. These challenges across schools in the country need to be tamed especially during this period of the pandemic, and I believe this initiative by MTN is one of the key solutions,” he said.

While further appreciating the MTN Foundation for this initiative, Mugabe also urged the administration and management of these schools to guard the new infrastructure with the aim of sustaining the impact for the long term.

Cipla Quality Chemicals Limited (CiplaQCIL) has joined other stakeholders in drug manufacturing, storage, regulation and sales to participate in the East Africa Phartech Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Exhibition.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Uganda’s premier international exhibition, which focuses on pharmaceuticals, medical and healthcare technology, Mr. Ajay Pal, the CiplaQCIL chief executive officer, said the company has over the years been driven by the need to create solutions that help to solve some of Africa’s biggest problems, and help to save lives.

Real Estate is undoubtedly one of the most risk-evasive investment plans. But with structuring a lucrative Real Estate plan continues to be a hard nut to crack for many middle income and low class earners. The price of land in prime development areas has sky rocketed, and with it, the cost of setting up anything. The answer to the rising cost, according to the Company Director of iLondo Future Homes Realty Partners, Yasin Mulondo, is investment club oriented property acquisition.

“You don’t have to be too rich to buy or invest in stock for the best property deals. You also don’t have to buy land or develop property to enjoy monthly rental Payments. For as little as 15M (ugx,) you can own property and start enjoying the monthly cash flow. You just have to gather the right support system,” explains Yasin Muldono

According to Yasin Mulondo, it is possible to get deals in prime areas around Kira Namugongo, Naalya , Najjera ,Kyanja , Buziga ,Munyonyo etc . Remember the higher the number of units the higher the profits.

HOW IT WORKS.

According to Mulondo, all one needs to do is join the ilondo Future Homes Realty Partners investment club.

It’s an investment that is already changing people’s lives. We meet different people who share similar Real Estate development estates, establish that they are in the same income flow capacity, and set categories for them. Using their financial capacities as parameters for segmentation and property prospecting, we then inform them about the different deals available. After establishing what their Real Estate interests are, our experts then advise them on the best money pooling formulas, after which they are introduced to our vast property catalogue at iLondo Future Homes Realty Partners,” explained Yasin Mulondo.

Mulondo explained that investment formula is the more the units invested in, the more the time, the more the properties appreciate value.

Our investment advantages are good cash flow, tax advantages, leverage, appreciation, inflation hedge. It’s a new opportunity fund seeking distressed assets so it’s for accredited investors only . We find the deal , negotiate ,purchase ,finance and close the deal. We help people invest in institutional quality assets . After which we collect the rent, so that our portfolio generates monthly rental payments from our credit worthy tenants. You get paid, we pay cash distributions monthly to you the investor,” explained Yasin.

Ugandan musician Ruth Walden a.k.a Faridah Walden of the “Pressure Ya Love” fame has recounted her change of career from music to Midwifery.

Faridah Walden who is now a professional midwife working in the United Kingdom (UK) validated her change of career to need to venture into something different.

Music is a passion for me. I wanted to find another and found it in midwifery,” Faridah Walden said while appearing on NTV Uganda’s ‘Mwasuze Mutya show on Friday.

She also confessed to have found joy in being a midwife instead of music.

Faridah Walden also said that she needed to make the world a better place, thus joining midwifery.

However because of her undoubted talent, Walden laments that she would only sing after a special payment though not professionally.

I still sing but not as a profession. I sing because I have a talent and if someone is paying for it, there is no problem. But now, I am a full-time midwife,” she added.

Faridah’s “Pressure Ya Love” featuring male singer Chosen Blood is recalled among the top love ballads that rocked Uganda in the early 2010s.

She quit the music career just after a few years after her limelight peak, relocated to London where she perused studies in Midwifery and graduated at Middlesex University.

Rapper Navio unveiled as first ever National Walker for the new Walkers’ Campaign

By Our Reporter

Johnnie Walker Uganda has launched a new campaign dubbed, “To the ones Who,” which is aimed at celebrating creatives across Africa who in their different trades and walks exemplify Johnnie Walker’s long-standing “Keep Walking” mantra.

The campaign was launched on Friday with a symbolic walk from Capital Shoppers Nakawa to Thrones Lounge located along Bandali Rise in Bugolobi. The walk signifies the everyday steps and leaps that the youth today have taken and keep taking in their bid to change and shift in culture.

During the launch, rapper Navio was unveiled as the National Walker for Uganda. Navio will flank Grammy award winning artiste Burna Boy who was announced as the Macro Walker and the Pan African face of the campaign months back.

Navio’s choice as the National Walker doesn’t come as a shock because the rapper has held steady in is trade of hip hop, made a living, and mentored today’s as well as future rappers, in an environment where rap was and still is not considered a profitable choice of music. Just like Burna Boy who defied all odds in his way to becoming the “African Giant,” Navio persisted, changed, and shaped the rap game in the country and on the continent.

Rapper Navio unveiled as first ever National Walker for the new Walkers’ Campaign

UBL’s Corporate Relations Director Juliana Kagwa, who flagged off the Walkers’ campaign, spoke on the tenacity of the youth and why brands like Johnnie Walker are tapping into that demographic to bring campaigns like the Walkers’ campaign to life.

“This campaign is a fitting representation of the positive evolution of our culture and generation. It is why ‘Keep Walking’ was created; to put a spring in our steps as we venture into the new, finding our own paths, building our own future, to becoming a generation of giants. I don’t think there is a more powerful way to share this message, than to work with our stars and celebrities that embody the attributes of the Johnnie Walker Brand,” she said.

Navio was unveiled along side other Walkers that include; DJ Turkana, a Ugandan female DJ of South Sudanese descent that featured in the Johnnie Walkers’ pan African TV commercial alongside Burna Boy, radio personalities – Timothy Code, Jaluo as well as Deedan. Other Walkers include celebrated disc spinner- DJ Slick Stuart, as well as bar marketer Raymond Kalemera aka Slay Farmer.

The campaign will also recruit regional Walkers who have, in their own right, reshaped and owned the creative spaces in other areas across the country.

The launch marked the beginning of the WALKERS NATIONAL TOUR that will be characterised with upbeat exciting premium experiences expected to kick-off with a Kampala edition next Friday April 2nd, 2022.

The tour will then head upcountry to cities like Masaka, Mbarara, Fort portal, Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, and Arua.

Moët Hennessy luxury brands, Moët & Chandon champagne and Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky have been reintroduced on the Ugandan market.

Guests make a toast at the Moët & Chandon champagne tasting event held at Banana Bar in Bugolobi, Kampala.

By Our Reporter

Moët Hennessy luxury brands, Moët & Chandon champagne and Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky have been reintroduced on the Ugandan market.

This follows a scarcity in the local market over the past two years that was brought about by disruption in the supply chain by the COVID-19 pandemic which saw several measures like travel restrictions among others put in place to curb the spread.

According to Moet Hennessy LVMH marketing manager for Eastern Africa Alexandre Helaine, demand for high-end liquor soared during the pandemic contrary to what had been anticipated as they thought disposable income would reduce due to loss of jobs.

“Sales went crazy during COVID, and we were even out of stock. The demand is higher than our production around the world, not only Uganda,” Alexandre Helaine noted.

He further attributed the failure to meet market demand for their products on the long production process for luxury brands, noting that some champagne brands take up to three years to produce.

Nigerian star Imohiosen Patrick who is internationally revered as disc jockey and Record Producer under the alias, DJ Neptune was in the country over the weekend.

Sources reveal to us that during his stay, DJ Neptunes was styled by the gifted hands of Oscar Nyesige of the Oscar Kampala brand.

The internationally acclaimed fashion-prenuer, Oscar Kampala is fast making bigger strides every other day on the international scene. Sources in Oscar Kampala’s camp reveal that Dj Neptunes is just one of many international celebrities that have reached out to Oscar Kampala for styling services whenever they plan to travel to Uganda.

Oscar Kampala and DJ Neptunes have been talking for quite a while about his styling needs. When they met, Neptunes was especially elated that Oscar Kampala was young and heaving with talent. So their first conversation wasn’t even about the styling of the day, it was about DJ Neptunes asking questions in awe of Oscar’s capabilities,” a witness said in reference to Oscar Kampala’s meeting with DJ Neptune.

Oscar Kampala got the chance to, yet again, style an international celebrity and as always, he stood up to the occasion.

The young stylist once again produced a master piece of an ensemble. Oscar managed to put together a number of outfits in quite a short time, much to the elation of DJ Neptunes.

Oscar Kampala’s proffesionalism preceded him. He has mastered the art of standardizing his business delivery. Not many local stylists can attract international businesses because of the lack of consistency. Oscar has been a consistent young man ever since he broke into the Market. It’s no surprise that stars like American rapper Jidena trust him when they’re here,” explained a source who was in on the engagement of the two.

After the styling, DJ Neptunes was over the moon with his outfit. So much so that he profusely thanked Oscar Kampala, and blessed him for managing to build a high caliber brand. Neptunes called unto different celebrities to support Oscar Kampala’s talent.
