SafeBoda has announced a new partnership with Rubis Energy Uganda.

By Our Reporter

SafeBoda has announced a partnership with Rubis Energy Uganda. The partnership will see SafeBoda customers and drivers enjoy great discounts when purchasing fuel at select Rubis stations. SafeBoda recently acquired a National Payments Services license from Bank of Uganda which allowed the company to operate digital wallets for Ugandans.

As part of its mission to offer affordable services to its customers and driver community, the company has teamed up with Rubis Energy Uganda to offer fuel at a discount. SafeBoda drivers will be getting their fuel at 4,500/= at select fuel stations only if they are paying using the SafeBoda app. Customers who wish to purchase fuel using their SafeBoda wallet will get their fuel cheaper by 100/= per liter from the board prices.

“At SafeBoda we strive to add value to the communities that we serve whether it is our driver community or our customers; we believe in adding value to them. For our drivers, fuel has been a big issue with the prevailing uncertainty in the market. Our partnership with Rubis Energy Uganda will enable our drivers to do their work efficiently. We are also extending this same token to our customers to enjoy the service.” Says Ricky Rapa Thomson, SafeBoda’s Co-founder and Director.

In order to enjoy the affordable services from this partnership, SafeBoda customers and drivers will have to keep money on their SafeBoda wallets. Once at the select stations, a driver or customer needs to approach the fuel Agent to make the fuel purchase. A customer can complete the payment by using the Pay feature on the app, and search for the Rubis station under the Merchant section. On the other hand, the driver is required to complete a cashless transfer to the Agent.

Olivier Gatera, Country Manager at Rubis Energy Uganda said, “Through this partnership with SafeBoda, we are able to add value to our customers by offering them a high quality fuel, Rubis Ultratec Petrol or Diesel at a discounted price. Rubis Ultratec fuel is designed to clean the engine, enhance performance, and fuel economy with less emissions. SafeBoda users can now enjoy the benefits of our premium fuel at various Rubis Stations countrywide.”

Meanwhile, SafeBoda has carried out several initiatives to ensure that its drivers increase their uptake of cashless payments. SafeBoda drivers are now be able to enjoy discounted fuel purchases if they use cashless as a means of paying for it. The cashless system of payments enables a big percentage of the SafeBoda drivers to save their earnings for a rainy day.

Having increased the number of services that customers can enjoy on the SafeBoda app, the app has transformed into a super app bringing convenience at the fingertips of its community of over 1 million customers. With the SafeBoda app, a customer not only enjoys safe transportation to their destinations, but also gets to pay their bills like Yaka, Umeme, TV and Water, buy airtime, order food, and shop various items using the ecommerce platform.

SMACK League

By Our Reporter

On Sunday, the alumni of St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) thronged Legends Rugby Grounds for match day three of the SMACK League’s fifth season.

The match day was a throwback edition, a football galore that saw the old boys of the elite institution reminisce to the golden memories that they lived through during their respective stays.

The match day was organized by the Outkasts, a team of old boys that were at the school between 2000 and 2005.

The Outkasts evoked loads of nostalgia from the SMACK fraternity as they lined up appearances from Mr SMACK, the SMACK twins among a boatload of other entertainment portfolios that were cherished as part of SMACK tradition. For the uninitiated, Mr SMACK was a title given to the best dancer in the school.

Despite SMACK being a single boys’ school, the throwback edition was filled up with some of Kampala’s fine women and well-wishers from other institutions who kept the energy at an all-time high thanks to the Guinness that kept the beers in circulation.

Guinness continues to power old students’ leagues with the premium beer’s most recent activation being at the SMACK League.

The SMACK League’s fifth season is currently ongoing as the football fest meant to unite SMACK old boys has morphed into a social-cultural phenomenon that entertains Kampala’s party lovers and networking while at it.

Lumbuye allegedly takes millions from re-known pastor – Canary defamation

By Reporter

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
Turkey based blogger Fred Lumbuye, who came into fame fully a year ago when it was alleged that the government had sent security agents to pick him from Turkey and bring him to face the law.

At this moment, he got a sympathy vote from social media and his following grew from roots to branches. With a big one now, the challenge is sustaining it with catchy story lines.

This has seen him use big names with little or no facts but to simply keep his following hooked.

The list has a couple of government officials and it does stretches to other big institutes including Buganda Kingdom.

Not long ago, Lumbuye attacked Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s right hand in Katikiro (Buganda Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga with falsehoods.

They were always silent when that bigot attacked us, attacked the Kabaka, insulted the Nnabagereka, the katikkiro and attacked the Catholic Church. You have now seen them panicking to fly to Turkey to rescue him. You have also seen them posting on their social media platforms.” Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko told Nile Post accusing top NUP officials of paying Lumbuye to attack people.

Just like any other man on a mission, sources close to Lumbuye say he is no longer just a political activist but is slowly turning into a mercenary for hire.

The trade of being paid to attack people who make news is his new favourite meal. This is evident again in a video making rounds on social media securing a meal card off Pastor Robert Kayanja’s holy reputation.

In the defamation video, a staged caller is heard telling Lumbuye how pastor Kayanja is involved in a gay relationship with celebrated NBS presenter Canary Mugume.

With a forced accent the caller claims the two meet at a house in Buzinga near Kiruddu hospital in a shaky voice the caller pulled off traits of character assassination.

This raised eyebrows and the findings from speaking to sources close to Lumbuye, this is yet another erroneous originating from the Bwaise based pastor who is well known for attacking fellow pastors be it alive or dead.

Proud of tarnishing the images of his fellow men of God he said uncouth words to the late Pastor, Augustine Yiga alias Abizaayo hours after his death before being laid to rest in peace.

Well, being in the know that now, people sieve his words before consuming them, rumour has it that he opted for a mercenary with specific instructions on how to go about the false propaganda.

The sources claim big money was paid to Lumbuye who greedily accepted the offer.

With the help of the flashy lifestyle of the youthful Mugume which was put into question especially since he was quoted as saying he leaves his wife 600,000 shillings for kameza.

Mugume, a mere journalist at NBS TV also had a flashy wedding that left many wondering how a young media personality could afford such a wedding.

In the blackmail meeting, the messenger is said to have told Lumbuye of the connection between Pastor Kayanja and Mugume which goes back to when the latter handled the version 86 project on behalf of the former.

Version 86 was a project aimed at bringing together youth who were born after 1986 when the current regime came into power.

Riding on this connection and Mugume’s being seemingly loaded at a young age the protagonists of the alleged relationship between the two hoped to make it believable and try and show that the two have been at it for so long.

Last year he was behind a group of former workers of Pastor Kayanja who stormed Rubaga miracle centre claiming unpaid wages and that they had been sodomized.

In the video that is on the page of Lumbuye he acts surprised as the caller narrates how he left Rubaga Miracle Centre because of the continued allegations.

Turning a Hobby into a Profession: Edwin Danze Makes a Mark on Gaming in Uganda

By Reporter

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
For the very first time since it’s inception, the Global Games and Politics exhibition is set to take place in Uganda and the organizers Goetzentrum have contracted seasoned gamer Edwin Danze to curate the events of the exhibition.

This comes as no surprise to someone who has been following the video gaming scene in the country because the name Danze always seems to pop up somewhere if not everywhere.

From playing in a number of events, advocating for the video gaming industry, organizing gaming tournaments and collaborating with international stakeholders, he has made a visible mark on gaming in Uganda.

Uganda has a ‘seemingly’ casual gaming scene but this is just a perception, one that is created by the fact that gaming isn’t considered a Sport. Globally, gaming is one of the biggest e-sports, earning brands and individuals loads of money and clout. I’ve taken it upon myself to steer the ship in the right direction,” said Danze in a recent interview.

For years now, he has entered partnerships with a number of local and international brands all with an aim of improving and popularizing video gaming in the country with his most focus being the young and youthful Ugandans.

Between 2011 and 2016, in partnership with Buzz Events, a youth marketing agency, Danze was the key curator of the Buzz gaming events which gathered students from across the country to participate for an ultimate prize.

He has partnered with Crown Beverages through their premium brand Mountain Dew to organize the National Xtreme Gamers’ tour (2014-2016), a tour that moved across the country interesting young people into gaming and rewarding those that showcased great skills. The Xtreme gamers tour rewarded gamers with consoles, money, product and an opportunity to network with a community that’s uniquely theirs (gaming community).

In Uganda, gamers are an isolated bunch. The gaming community is large but it is also primarily virtual with most gamers doing so at the comfort of their homes.

But Danze believes that this is something that can change.

Through gaming events, we can mobilize youths, grow the gaming community and create employment for gamers and game developers,” he said.

On top of Buzz gaming events and the National Extreme Gamers’ tour, Danze has curated the then Orange Expo gaming experience, Gladiators digital gaming experience, Ultimate Gamer championships, CocaCola Schools FIFA league among others.

The buzz and reputation he had created locally got him an opportunity in 2021 to be spotted by Activision, the makers of the game Call of Duty who contracted him to curate the Call of Duty Mobile Gaming tour in Uganda on behalf of their global beverage partner Mountain Dew.

Call of Duty Mobile was licensed and sampled to understand what the market was like in Uganda. It was a niche audience but at the end of the day, it painted a picture of Uganda’s reception of the game and drove sales for Mountain Dew who was our beverage partner,” he said.

Speaking about his current project – curating activities for the Games and Politics exhibition, Danze says it’s an opportunity to bring together stakeholders in the gaming industry to socialize and learn together.

A game is always more than just a game. There is a lot of political intonation in video games; the politics of gender, the politics of race, the politics of body perfection among other things. These are the things that we are going to be showcasing and discussing throughout the exhibition,” he said.

He added; “the event will attract people from the gaming industry; game developers in Uganda, character designers, investors who have been investing in gaming, people who have been collaborating gaming in Africa and players.”

Asked why he does what he does, Danze said he is trying to raise a voice for the many people in the industry whose voices are not heard and whose stories have not been told.

The gaming industry in the country has game developers but their story is not being told. No one knows about them. We have people who do character designs, those who model gaming environments but their story is not known,” he said.

“We have people like Creatures Animation who are doing animations for Disney right now but that story is not celebrated enough. Also, the people in gaming parlors who spend a lot of money to buy equipment but charge a little amount of money for people to play,

I would like to highlight all these things that affect us as gamers and push this supposed hobby to become something big.”

This is something we have been doing for the last four years at Gardens in Najjera and we are excited to expand the experience to Alchemist. So, why not come and enjoy the race with great company, tasty barbeque and of course discounted Johnnie walker offers,” she said.

Formula One returns this weekend with a season-opening race, the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, which takes place over 57 laps of the 5.412-kilometre Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir on Sunday, March 20.

Race lovers can look out for special discounts of up to 15% on a wide range of Johnnie Walker offerings at Gardens and Alchemist every race weekend.

What a splendid weekend to recall for legendary singer Jose Chameleone’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Stuart Kagoro alias Stuart G-Kharst as he was introduced by longtime fiancée Peace Mugabe.

The glamorous traditional marriage ceremony held on Saturday March 19, 2022 in Nakasongola district provided an appropriate backdrop to Stuart and Peace for the public affirmation of their love.

The notable ceremony saw a number of Ugandan celebrities led by singer boss Jose Chameleone attend in person to witness Stuart being introduced to his in-laws.

Forgetting the luxurious decoration, the sense of style and fashion at the function also brought Kakooge village at stardom.

Stuart the groom together with his maids headed by Next Media’s Isaac Kawalya (Kayz) showed up in white and black designated high-end Ankole cultural attires.

The bride boasted a double dresscode for the day with her maids cladding in a shiny green and gold ‘Mushanana’ costumes.

Musicians; Jose Chameleone, Nina Roz and Big Eye StarBoss lit the day, performing their top love ballads.

My best friend and I have a new convenant, to love and to cherish. Cheers to new beginnings,” Stuart G-Kharst wrote.

In October 2020, Stuart is recalled to have gone on his knees, asking Peace for her hand in marriage.

Inside Bobi Wine’s face-off with SMACK administration after son’s suspension

By BigEyeUg Team

Singer cum-politician, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has opened up on his son Solomon Sekayi Kyagulanyi’s (Solomon Kampala) suspension from St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK).

During the parents meeting convened by the school over the weekend, Bobi Wine faced-it-off with the administration as he poured out his longtime frustration by the school over his son Solomon Kampala.

Bobi Wine accused the school headteacher, Br. Deodati Aliganyira of riding on Solomon Kampala’s suspension to spark national attention.

He demanded clarity regarding son’s “possession of illegal drugs” case, that he says Solomon decried to have been a set-up against him.

My son (Solomon) informed me that he had been set up and drugs put in his suit case and under his bed. I did not believe it at first. Not that I believe it now, but because I want answers,” Bobi Wine said.

He said that his son has overly cried foul of the school administration exercising multiple segregation patterns on him.

That young man had been reporting to me a pattern of segregation and targeting on him. When all these issues came up, the head teacher told me that for a child to be a leader in this school, he must be an A-student and not an average student like my son,” he said.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) President also inculpated SMACK, a partially government-aided school of barring his son from involving himself in the institution political affairs with no grounds.

We raise our children to be leaders. My young man always hoped to stand for an elective position in this school…but this one day, he came crying to me at home that the headmaster had blocked him from standing,” Bobi Wine said.

From a disciplinary meeting held in February between Bobi Wine and SMACK over his son’s suspension, headteacher Br Aliganyira is said to have assured that Solomon has no requirements to politically stand in school.

Students that are overly popular are not allowed to run for office in this school,” Bobi Wine added.

The father-to-five further revealed how the administration had blocked him from attending the school Annual General Meetings with grounds on ‘Causing unnecessary attention’.

It should be recalled on February 1, 2022, SMACK slapped Solomon Kampala with a two-week suspension for acting contrary to the school’s policy on “zero-tolerance for indiscipline” after he was reportedly nabbed with illegal drugs.

The news sparked a mammoth of comments in both the media and public domain.

However, SMACK is yet to officially open up on Bobi Wine’s claims.

We will keep you posted

Uganda’s pioneer audio-visual radio station, Next Radio is ready for relaunch, we have learned.

According to a statement released early this week, Next Radio will return to the airwaves on Monday, March 28.

“We have retreated, refocused and strategised on our future, re-deployed some of our talents, and brought some new faces on board,” the statement reads in part. “Next Radio is now ready to return to the airwaves on Monday, March 28, 2022, starting at 6:00 AM East African Time.”

It should be remembered that Next Radio had previously suspended all normal programming to realign in light of new industry realities and the need to remain competitive in the market.

The station will be available to watch and/ or listen to via 106.1 FM, the Afro Mobile app, StarTimes Channel 243, and DStv Channel 898.
