With the ever growing malice and social media misuse, We should all be alert and Disregard the FAKE news that circulates very fast.

Having jumped into the Race of Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament as a replacement of her late mother (RIP), i knew she had entered a dirty game (Politics) but with good intentions for the people who entrusted Late Rehema Watongola when that constituency was created, after a landslide victory over Salaamu Musumba in 2016.

At 26years, Hon. Baroda is a married Muslim lady with a breastfeeding baby boy who will turn One Year very soon.

Having seen the video with a seemingly smaller lady in that video, way smaller than Hon. Baroda Kayanga Watongola, I wondered why someone would body shame such an innocent lady like that. With her small back and no face shown, this is the worst cooked up story to put someone down Politically.

The lady in that video is not Hon. Baroda Kayanga Watongola. As a person who has known her over the years, those who studied with her will tell you about her big weight just like her late mother (Rehema Watongola, RIP). I would rather urge us to Unite for a better cause that Childish cheap Politics.

Let’s cease and desist from taking in FAKE NEWS with the ever growing misuse of social media for defamation.

NSSF team poses with students of Pioneer Primary School in Soroti.

By Our Reporter

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has extended its Education Intervention Project to improve the learning conditions in government aided primary schools upcountry.

While addressing journalists at Pioneer Primary School, Byarugaba said that the Fund’s intervention is informed by reports that learning conditions in most public primary schools are below standard and could be a health hazard to the learners and their teachers due to the increase in enrollment in public schools.

“Government has done well extending free primary education to every corner of Uganda. However, with this expansion, the high enrolment numbers have led to overcrowding and pressure on available structures. Our intervention supports government efforts, by refurbishing existing structures as well as improving sanitation in our public schools,” he said.

Byarugaba said that the Fund was approached by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in 2016 to support its education services directorate to refurbish old buildings and replace asbestos roofing common in Kampala schools that is a health hazard. The Fund has since last year expanded its intervention to other schools across the country.

“We started at public primary level where learners are most vulnerable. So far, 9 schools have benefited from this initiative to the tune of Ugx 600m contributed by the Fund and our other partners.” He added.

Some of the schools that have benefited from this initiative include; St. Ponsiano Kyamula P/S, Nakivubo settlement P/S, Makerere Primary School, Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped, and Mbuya C/O P/S– all under KCCA.

Others are Pioneer P/S- Soroti, Mutolere P/S – Kisoro, Adwari P/S – Otuke, and St. Paul P/S – Nsambya, that have been earmarked to benefit this year.

Alfred Enyidu, the Headteacher at Pioneer Primary School – Soroti, one of the beneficiary schools, said that said the NSSF intervention will go a long way in enhancing quality education in upcountry schools which have for a long time been left behind.

“School buildings have previously been seen only as places where school is ‘kept’ and have only recently been considered as places that can directly support or inhibit learning. Learning conditions in schools have often been overlooked, yet also influence schools’ performance. NSSF has found the right area to intervene,” he added.

By Reporter

Töme’s latest song. “Nana,” is a blend of afrobeats’ tonality with the poignant lyricism of the indie-folk music of her childhood, creating an eclectic brand of music that’s at once roomy and relatable.

Töme released her sophomore album last year titled – #BiggerThan4Walls-Chapter 2 a sequel to her debut album – Tomesroom- Chapter 1. The album did well and earned her a nomination at the awards in Canada.

The single is from her upcoming Extended play dubbed Dreams set for release later this year.

Speaking about the song, Töme says, “I think it’s safe to say that when it comes to boys/men and relationships, you need to make sure you know what YOU want and if they don’t like it, we’ll you can’t hear them”.

Töme has cemented her entry into the music industry broadening the scope of afro-fusion, Töme stands out with her intuitive melodies and searing lyricism, she mixes the best of both worlds for music that speaks to the experience of being Nigerian without being within the geographical confines of the country. Töme’s 2020 album, Bigger Than 4 Walls, pulsated with genteel sashays and calming influences that segued, at times, into a warm party feel.

The first song from a forthcoming project, “Nana” signals  Töme operating in a pocket of sound that’s fundamentally attuned to her unique strengths. She makes a tribute to her individualism over an ebbing instrumental, packing in lyrical choices that urge her to move on despite what might be happening in her life at the moment.

Töme is set to jet into the country early next month for a listening party and media tour to popularize her single and upcoming EP.

Huawei has launched a range of smartphones, smart watches, and tablets powered by its new HarmonyOS 2 operating system, including a new version of the HUAWEI Mate 40 Series and HUAWEI Mate X2, the HUAWEI WATCH 3 Series, and the HUAWEI MatePad Pro.

During the event, Huawei also released the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4, its next-generation open-fit Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) wireless Bluetooth earbuds, and two high-end monitors, the HUAWEI MateView and the HUAWEI MateView GT.

The company took this opportunity to announce that roughly 100 other Huawei devices – including both smartphones and tablets – will be upgraded to run on HarmonyOS 2, giving consumers access to a seamless intelligent experience across multiple devices in all different types of scenarios.

As a next-generation operating system for smart devices, HarmonyOS provides a common language for different kinds of devices to connect and collaborate, providing users with a more convenient, smooth, and secure experience.

It uses distributed technology to meet the varied needs of all types of different devices with a single system, enabling flexible deployment as needed.

HarmonyOS also combines previously independent devices into a cohesive and holistic Super Device that integrates all hardware and resources to freely leverage the capabilities of its component devices based on the user’s real-time needs.

For developers, HarmonyOS allows cross-platform development and cross-device deployment of apps, making the development of apps across devices
easier than ever before.

Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) has announced a collaboration with IBM to empower young women and men in Africa and the Middle East with the digital skills, workforce readiness proficiencies, and business knowledge needed for successful careers, social wellbeing, and economic growth.

DOT will work with local organizations to help young people tap into IBM’s free Open P-TECH’s career readiness curricula. The platform equips learners with competencies in foundational technologies used in all industries, such as AI, cloud computing and cybersecurity, along with professional workplace skills like design thinking, teaming, and presentations.

Together, the organizations will aim to reach at least 40,000 young people in 8 countries – Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Ghana, Jordan and Lebanon. 70% of the youth will be young women.

The pandemic has laid bare the gaps and inequitable access to the digital literacy, employment and entrepreneurship skills that youth require to innovate, compete for jobs, or start businesses in a digital economy. The gender gap is extreme – with women over 50% less likely to be online than men in least developed countries where 390 million women remain unconnected.

Poised to change this are IBM’s new Open P-TECH digital education platform with its potential to scale within formal and informal education systems, and the support of DOT’s network of young leaders with the facilitation, coaching and peer-to-peer talents that are critical to the effectiveness, application and retention of online learning.

“Providing career skills to youth, particularly young women and those from under-resourced communities, can be life changing,” said Justina Nixon-Saintil, IBM Vice President and Global Head, Corporate Social Responsibility. “With resources like IBM Open P-Tech bolstered by the efforts of organizations like Digital Opportunity Trust, we aim to advance equity and create access to opportunity.”

The collaboration brings together complementary experience and assets: IBM with its technology and business expertise, and DOT with its extensive channels to youth and local community ecosystems. DOT’s research shows that young people with these skills become the leaders and contributors to the digital transformation of their communities, countries, and economies.

DOT Founder and CEO Janet Longmore said: “DOT and IBM have a history working together and developing the mutual trust that underpins successful collaboration. This partnership, around the Open P-TECH platform, is an example of how the private sector and a social enterprise with ‘feet on the street’ can mobilize their assets to benefit youth and young women in marginalized, rural and remote communities. We share a belief that youth want opportunities to be the innovators and catalysts of digital transformation, shaping the future of work in an inclusive world.”
