Hot off the heels of the runaway success of her smash song ‘Duduke’ – a heartfelt ode to her new-born daughter that has clocked up an astounding 83 million TikTok impressions and 13 million online views – the Nigerian Afro-Pop singer/songwriter and producer sensation Simi has released her brand new single ‘No Longer Beneficial’ (out now on Platoon).
Released alongside an eye-catching lyric video, ‘No Longer Beneficial’ signals an exciting, rebirth of sound for Simi which sees her mixing sophisticated and sultry, future-R&B with vibrant Afrobeats influences and her distinctive and mesmerizingly, soulful vocals, which can be heard on her forthcoming EP ‘Restless II’ (out on October 2nd).
Speaking on the forthcoming EP, Simi said:
“Before I got my break in the industry, I had so many moments of uncertainty. I was bursting with all this creativity and I was almost desperate for someone to bank on it. So I channelled my energy into the first Restless EP. “Restless”, because it was how I felt. Thankfully, I made it to the other side.
There are many “other sides” on every path. You find your breakthrough, and then chase another one. And another one. And then, another one.
My second ’Restless’ EP is a symbol of my search for a new journey on the same path. May the force be with me.”
Born in the well-known Surulere suburb of Lagos, Nigeria Simi started singing and dancing as a child in her local church choir. Having started out creating Gospel music over a decade ago, she began her mainstream music journey in 2014, releasing the ‘Restless’ EP and then going on to release some of her best known hits such as ‘Tiff’, ‘Jamb Question’, ‘Love Don’t Care’ and featuring on hit tracks such as ‘Soldier’ with Falz, ‘No Forget’ with Adekunle Gold and ‘So Rire’ with Legendury Beatz to name just a few. She has also released two chart topping studio albums, 2008’s ‘Ogaju’ and 2017’s ‘Simisola’ – which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard World Albums Chart – last year’s ‘Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol 1’ EP and the collaborative EP ‘Chemistry’ with Falz in 2016, whilst amassing a staggering 173 million global streams across all platforms.
Clearly on a one-woman mission to bring her one of a kind, R&B and Afro-pop fusion sound to the world, ‘No Longer Beneficial’ and the forthcoming ‘Restless II’ EP are set to take Simi to dizzying new heights and place her firmly on the international music scene where she so rightly belongs.
“We are all aware that there is an ongoing case in the Courts of Law, but the existence of such a big case in Courts of law is an ongoing public concern that the regulator should be concerned about.”
Over the years it’s been a well-known fact that a sound and workable financial system is a direct result of the activities of financial institutions supervised and regulated by the Central Bank. Bank of Uganda (BoU) is the Central Bank of the Republic of Uganda which was opened on August 15, 1966. It is 100% owned by the Government of Uganda but it is not a government Department hence giving it the capacity to make independent sound decisions. The Central Bank has 9 branches across the country to ensure efficient service delivery and monitoring of the financial institutions. All the 9 branches are headed by Branch Managers in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, Mbarara, Kabale, Fort Portal, Arua and Masaka City.
We also understand that the Bank of Uganda conducts all its activities in close association with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED), taking on the responsibility of formulation and implementation of the monetary policy as well as regulating & supervising financial institutions. Looking at BoU’s mandate would make you think that the banking sector is in great shape but this is the case because many local and international licensed banks have been closed due to issues that were either ignored or engineered by Bank of Uganda.
There are seven known commercial banks that have been closed by Bank of Uganda and these include;
Teffe Trust Bank – This was the first commercial bank to be closed by Bank of Uganda in 1993 basing on an argument that the financial institution was closed due to insolvency. BoU stated that the collapse of Teffe Bank was as a result of excessive insider lending and accumulation of bad debt to the point that it could not effectively operate.
International Credit Bank – This Bank which was owned by the Emma Kato family got closed in 1998 citing similar reasons that led to the closure of Teffe Bank.
Greenland Bank – Formerly owned by the late Sulaiman Kigundu, the bank was closed in 1999 with BoU citing reports that there was a lot of insider borrowing and that the bank did not have enough money to continue operating.
Cooperative Bank Limited – The actual reasons for closing this financial institution in 1999 have remained a mystery to Ugandans since the major issue that was cited by BoU then was the fact that they learned that there were two Cooperative banks operating at the same time.
National Bank of Commerce (NBC) – Formerly owned by tycoon Amos Nzeyi and former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, the bank was closed in 2012. While closing the NBC Bank, BOU noted that action was taken because “NBC’s activities were detrimental to the interests of its depositors”. So detrimental that BoU opted to suspend NBC’s board. After closing NBC in 2012, BOU reassured the public that “it will continue to protect the depositors’ interests and maintain the stability of the financial sector.”
Global Trust Bank – This commercial bank started operations in 2008 providing small financial services to Ugandans but was closed by Bank of Uganda in 2014. While closing the bank, BoU put forward two reasons for the immediate closure of GTB; one was lack of profitability and the second was lack of accuracy of the information provided to the government.
Crane Bank – This is the most recent commercial bank that was closed by Bank of Uganda in 2016. The bank was closed by BoU due to allegations of flaunting Uganda’s banking laws and other allegations of committing various financial crimes.
Given the above information as regards various banks that have been closed by Bank of Uganda and citing the reasons for their closure, it is not surprising that the central bank needs to take keen interest in the ongoing 120Bn fraud case between Ham Enterprises (U) Ltd and Diamond Trust Bank Uganda/Diamond Trust Bank Kenya. In their filing, Ham Enterprises states that DTB illegally debited Ham Enterprises’ Accounts to a tune of UGX 120Bn over a 10 year period without consent from their client. The same bank is said to have deducted money from the same accounts in irregular and illegal charges to the client which tantamounts to fraud and financial crime.
According to information available, it is also known that Diamond Trust Bank Uganda has been abetting financial crime by luring their clients to deal with Diamond Trust Bank Kenya, a bank that does not have a license to operate in Uganda and this was also confirmed by their lawyer recently in the Commercial Division of the High Court during the first hearing of the case. This means that the financial transactions carried out by Diamond Trust Bank Kenya in Uganda are neither monitored nor supervised by BoU hence DTB Uganda abetting evasion of taxes.
While closing down Global Trust Bank in 2014, Bank of Uganda cited lack of accuracy of the information provided to the government by the financial institution, a scenario directly similar to what Diamond Trust Bank Uganda is doing today.
We are all aware that there is an ongoing case in the Courts of Law, but the existence of such a big case in Courts of law is an ongoing public concern that the regulator should be concerned about.
Based on the recent actions of the Central Bank, we reasonably believe that Diamond Trust Bank could have been dealt with by now just like they have dealt with others before, for minor defects than to the extent of what we are all witnessing in DTB.
The biggest question is “Why is Bank of Uganda Silent when this is going on?”
Is BoU waiting for such a time when the Bank completely runs out of depositors’ money to keep operating?
Or is it waiting until the liability is passed onto the national budget or government coffers so that our money is used to settle for negligence acts of the would-be regulators, just like we saw with DFCU.
Amidst all the ongoing arguments, Diamond Trust Bank may be taking money out of the coffers and by the time Bank of Uganda comes on board, there will be empty coffers in DTB hence Ugandans will again be forced to suffer another liability.
Why doesn’t Bank of Uganda handle these cases and correctively deal with these banks before they are fully out of Capital just like it has swiftly done before?

Prophet Elvis Mbonye famous for prophesy and foresight has hit again. While appearing on BBC radio today, the Zoe fellowship leader insisted that places of worship need to re-open even amidst the global pandemic Covid-19. Talking to Allan Kasujja, Presenter on BBC, Prophet Mbonye cited scriptures to back his thinking. He said: “The scripture said you should not forsake the assembling together. When you come together and assemble together there are certain prophecies you realise”
Prophet Mbonye believes fellowship alone will not accelerate the spread of Covid-19. “The Apostle Paul says if I am a fool for God, so be it. When you are a person of faith, your faith speaks for you in all situations,” he said.
“I disagree 100% with how government has handled the Covid-19. I don’t dispute the existence of Covid-19 but faith never changes. I would say that our motto says For God and My Country and not for Science and My Country.” Mbonye added.
Prophet Mbonye is strongly leading a campaign to see worship places re-open. He has called upon all other religions leaders to join cause and trust more in God than in science.

Uganda Airlines celebrated their 1st anniversary recently. However, the anniversary celebration was overshadowed by harsh criticism online over the unflattering cake presented during the occasion. The cake had been presented by Britam Uganda, the insurance provider for the airlines.
Lucky for Britam Uganda, they got a second chance to make a positive impression. Because they did not get it right the first time, they now decided to send out a distress call to bakers across the country to help design the new cake that would be presented to Uganda Airlines.
The “Bake Off Challenge” attracted a warm reception, with over 100 bakers taking part. Cake Album Uganda, a local confectionary shop located in Ntinda, Kampala, emerged winners.
Cake Album Uganda presented their cake design during an event held at Uganda Airlines offices in Entebbe on Friday. The cake design was this time also received with praise online.
Maurine Namijja, the CEO Cake Album Uganda revealed the cake was designed to represent Uganda Airlines taking to the skies.
“We brainstormed different ideas, but decided to go with the idea of a plane taking off,” she explained their cake design. “We wanted to simulate the scene of a Uganda Airlines plane leaving the airport. I am happy we managed to pull it off.”
Speaking during the ceremony, Allan Mafabi, the CEO Britam Uganda noted that “Ugandans said that Uganda Airlines deserves better and we took that on positively.”
“Secondly we would not being doing justice to the bakers of this country if did not accept that we did a mistake. Thus we gave them chance to show us how we can do better. This marked the birth of the Britam Bake Off Challenge.” Mafabi added.
“Everyone deserves a second chance in life. Thank you to Uganda Airlines for accepting us to come here again, and giving us a second opportunity.” He concluded.
Cornwell Muleya, the CEO Uganda Airlines expressed excitement for the baking challenge, noting that it has presented them with an opportunity to celebrate the airlines’ milestones with the entire country.
“You have given us a second chance to celebrate properly with the entire nation. So, we have decided to make this an annual event and you will celebrate with us every year through the bakers challenge so that at this time we can look back at the year past and also share with you our plans going ahead.” Cornwell Muleya said.
Many of us love Nile Special beer, sometimes more than we should and it is okay. Given that we have been in lockdown for a long time, we oftentimes we find ourselves with a bottle in the awkwardest of places. I know you agree.
For one lucky Nile Special customer, who went hiking, with his Nile in hand, thirst is the last thing on his mind right now as he could get big rewards from the makers of the beer that is from the source of the Nile River – Nile Special.
Anthony Natif who is a member of Mountain Slayers Ug a group that loves mountain peaks and everything outdoors, went for a hike on top of the Rwenzori Mountain. Being a Nile Special lager guy, he didn’t leave his brown bottle behind. When he reached the highest point on Rwenzori Mountain National park called Margherita peak (5109M, 1676FT), he pulled out his bottle and took the most amazing photos. That is how a Nile Special ended up at the top of Mt. Rwenzori which got the internet talking.
Although hikers are not allowed to drink on top of the mountain for obvious reasons, Anthony seized the opportunity to show off his Made of Uganda favourite beer in a place where many have never reached. Here are the awesome moments.
Once the images were on Social Media, Natif was a ‘wanted’ man as Nile Special started looking for him.
It was only a matter of time that he was found and promised a little something. Our guess is that he will get a lifetime supply of Nile Special but who knows. We will find out and keep you posted.

Last night was fraught with tension as everyone was curious as to who would join Nengi, Neo and Vee to make the final five. At the end of the night, Trikytee and Ozo were evicted, missing the opportunity to be among the top five.
This week started with Nengi being crowned HoH for the second time in the Lockdown season. To kick off the nominations, the remaining housemates were divided into two teams: black and white and in a unique twist each team had to nominate two people from the opposing team. At the end of the deliberation Laycon, Dorathy, Trikytee and Ozo were put up for eviction.
Trikytee’s lucky streak came to an end as he was the first housemate to be evicted on Sunday night. Trikytee had been up for eviction every week since the third week but had always been saved.
Speaking to Ebuka following his eviction, Trikytee said he enjoyed his stay in the house and didn’t understand how he managed to escape evictions in the previous weeks. He said he felt the housemates liked him because he was free-spirited and easy going. He also didn’t think he was particularly attracted to only the people in power as perceived because he got along with everyone in the house. Trikytee says now that he is out, the name of the game is “Hustle 101” as he plans to push himself and his brand to the forefront.
The next housemate to leave was Ozo, who expressed his strong feelings for Nengi and said he fell for her from week three. He said he didn’t back down from Nengi even though she turned down his advances, because he sees all the great qualities she has. And he has found someone he would like to sacrifice things for. Ozo said he will now focus on sports development and he thanked his family and everyone who helped him come this far in the show.
The final five housemates of the BBNaija Lockdown season are Laycon, Nengi, Vee, Dorathy and Neo. Ebuka congratulated them and urged them to be patient in the last days that they have to be in the house. He also reminded them to stay entertaining as this is an entertainment show after all.

MultiChoice has announced a new campaign reaffirming their commitment to tell stories that resonate with Africans throughout the continent.
Dubbed “10, 000 Stories” promo, MultiChoice will showcase the best of African storytelling. The new campaign was launched as part of the recent Multichoice Media Showcase.
This creative masterpiece was the brainchild of poet and writer Lebohang Mashango. It explores themes around diversity, innovation, local content, international content, sports and a general love for stories.
Brought to life by Mashango and other talented African poets, it is an ode to all who have been part of the journey, celebrating the legacy of the MultiChoice and the more than 10, 000 stories which have been told over the years.
“I drew inspiration from Maya Angelo and the grand idea explored in most African philosophy. The idea that one individual is amplified when standing as a collective ‘I come as one but, I stand as 10 000’, the core of the poem is around collectivism and collaboration, something storytelling does so well. Stories are a way of preserving memories and making history and Multichoice through its existence has made history, changing the ritual around coming together. The modes of viewing content may change with technological advancement, however, the essence of storytelling as preserving history does not change,” explained Lebohang Mashango.
Multichoice has been telling African stories for over 20 years, reaching far and wide across the continent. Its DStv and GOtv platforms have continued to grow over the years, launching numerous local channels with more planned as the group increases its local content investment.
“MultiChoice Uganda has taken significant strides in providing phenomenal content to our customers over the years. First with the launch of DStv as our flagship brand right to the introduction of GOtv to provide a more affordable family entertainment offering for the mass market, and delivering a variety of content at the right pricing point, revolutionizing terrestrial viewing in Africa and an indication of our continued investment in innovation for better customer experience,” says Vincent Erone, Ag. MD, MultiChoice Uganda.
MultiChoice is determined to continue showcasing unforgettable stories that cater to a diverse audience. At the heart of MultiChoice’s reason for existence is to provide customers with variety and choice, it is with this in mind that the company is focused on enhancing its innovation, value and local entertainment offering.
“Over the past few years, MultiChoice has become the country’s most-loved storyteller by making extensive investments in the development of original programming. In October 2018, in a move to provide Ugandans with locally-developed content, we launched Pearl Magic, a purely Ugandan channel that features dramas, soap operas, movies, series and music in a language, setting and storyline that our countrymen best understand and are familiar with.” concluded Vincent Erone, Ag. MD, MultiChoice Uganda.

Yesterday I shared the Word behind the War and Gave away three Toyota Salon cars.
All is getting fired up at The Black Wall Street (BWS) house as Africa’s first economic war rages on.
The brain behind the war, Africa’s first economic, ‘Field Marshall’ Charles N. Lambert has awarded some of the faithful Ugandans with cars as a thank you for their efforts in fighting for Africa’s economic independence. Charles gave out three Toyota salon cars to three lucky executors of the war at Black Wall Street house in Kampala.
“Yesterday I shared the Word behind the War and Gave away three Toyota Salon cars to faithful executors of the Economic War. Africa first,” Charles Lambert said.
Renowned radio personality, Omulangira Ndawusi has opened weighed in on singer Jose Chameleone and Bobi Wine’s friendship status especially following allegations of mistrust among themselves.
Omulangira Ndawusi
Chameleone and Bobi’s on and off friendship seems to have hit rock bottom yet again after Chameleone was vetted negatively from the Lord Mayoral seat for National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
Appearing on Spark TV interview, Ndawusi says its not right for the public to go against Bobi Wine, accusing him of dejecting Chameleone’s NUP ticket for the Lord Mayoral seat.
Jose Chameleone
He instead turns guns at the NUP vetting committee that was of course elected by Bobi Wine
“Chameleone joined politics and people okayed his decision. What people don’t know is that Bobi Wine is not one responsible for vetting potential party flag bearers.
Other members are ones in charge, that’s why they chose Lati over Chameleone. They might have based on his experience in the political field as one of Elias Lukwago’s longtime servants. So, its far away from claims that Bobi Wine might have lost trustworthy in Chameleone,” Ndawusi said.
The Radio Simba presenter also recounts to the public not to rule-out Bobi Wine and Chameleone’s rivalry despite holding a pretended friendship in the past few years.
“Also, the longtime feud between Bobi and Chameleone will never perish however minimal it maybe. Its an on and off relationship between the two,” Ndawusi added.
Bobi Wine
He further warned about the possibility of Chameleone resurfacing the battle with Bobi Wine and rapper Gravity Omutujju who have betrayed his dreams and aspects in the political career.
This is because of Chameleone’s renowned traits of being a superior when it comes to musical politics.
“By the way a new battle is boiling-up between the two. Likewise to rapper Gravity Omutujju after publicly announcing that he will be campaigning for FDC Flag bearer. Erias Lukwago not his close friend Chameleone.
Chameleone is the king of battles and wars for years now. He is a musical politician.“
