Amid the whirlwind of the fast-spreading COVID-19 global pandemic, I decided to travel back home from the United Kingdom (UK), unsuspecting of what lay ahead of me.
Right from touch-down at Entebbe International Airport, I begun to feel unwell with what started as a mild cough that kept intensifying by the day, while in mandatory quarantine instituted by Government for all returnees. It was so terrible that there were days I chose not to talk at all because anything I said would trigger this cough that lasted for several minutes, causing me grave pain in my lower abdomen, chest area and muscles.
My anxiety sank in more deeply as I started to put the pieces together. While more and more people were testing positive for the coronavirus, I feared for the worst. I knew the risk was high, considering all the contact I made on my voyage in the UK and on the trip from the UK to Uganda.
While in isolation, on the 27th of March 2020, I was visited by Ministry of Health officials who took samples from me for the coronavirus tests. Two days later, my diagnosis was confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus. The news that I was positive felt like a nightmare, and at that point, all I could do was cry, as if it would change anything.
Worse than the disease was the stigma being displayed especially in the news and on social media that sounded like a death sentence, and I wondered if I was going to make it through.
On arrival at the hospital, the medical personnel were very receptive and offered me as much help as they could, well knowing that I would be okay, regardless. Among other medical and hygiene practices that I was advised to adopt, what stood out for me well was what everyone else I saw on social media seemed to disregard, even to-date; like wearing masks, washing hands frequently with soap and clean water, keeping physical distance and not going for social gatherings. This was my resolve once I am out of hospital!
In my quest for healing and not repeating the wrongs of others and mine too, I learnt a lot on how the disease spreads, its symptoms and what to do to prevent spreading it to others or contracting it again after I heal from this instance of it.
On April 16th 2020, about three weeks from when I was hospitalized and received treatment to help manage the coronavirus, I was discharged from the hospital after several tests revealed that I had fought off the disease with the help of some of the medical prescriptions like face steaming, and other medicines.
Upon discharge, however, I was to self-quarantine for another fourteen days upon which, if I do not present further symptoms, I would be tested and declared COVID-19 free and allowed to get back to the population.
I was excited to finally leave the hospital and isolation, but what bothered me even more was how the society was going to receive me, how people would look at me, if my old friends would still love me and if they would still associate with me like they used to before all of this.
Apart from my immediate family who received me happily, most other people did not want to associate with me, especially on a physical front despite being declared healed and free from COVID-19.
I kept wishing I could turn things around. I had already accepted my truth, but the demeanor of those around kept weighing me down. I didn’t need to be reminded I was a COVID-19 survivor, or that I was at some point on the verge death and neither did I need to be isolated from what was once dear to me and the life I happily lived before COVID-19.
Feeling not wanted nor accepted by even people you care for the most is not something I wish on anyone. Whereas it is normal to have fear of contracting the disease, I believe it is only right that COVID-19 patients and recoverees as myself are not treated with contempt or looked at as outcasts. It calls only for a little empathy and acceptance as opposed to stigmatization.
Everyone is prone to contracting the COVID-19 virus, especially if we do not follow the standard operating guidelines because it is not a respecter of persons.
My call to everyone is for a small sacrifice from each of us to fight together as one instead of stigmatizing those that suffer from the novel corona virus. In its place, show a little positivity, rays of hope and encouragement, enthusiastic jokes if you must, as a reminder of the victory achieved against our one enemy, COVID-19.
I am on my road to full recovery now from stigmatization like millions of survivors across the globe and beseech everyone to show support and compassion to those that have been diagnosed as no one chooses to be infected. Let’s do this while keeping safe at all times. It Is Up To Us.

After another successful edition of the MTN MoMo Nyabo promotion, Swangz Avenue, the production house charged with bringing the show to life, has released a behind-the-scenes video giving insight into the amount of work that goes into making such a high budget production.
Swangz Avenue was contracted for the job in a bid to deliver a world class stage and production, sources say. We have also learned they sub contracted Buzz Events to build the set while they focused on production. They clearly didn’t disappoint if the critical acclaim online is anything to go by.
The MoMo Nyabo show aired every week day on NBS and Bukedde TV as show hosts Patricko Mujjuko and Zahara Toto rewarded lucky MTN customers with up to Ugx 5 million for 10 weeks.
The shows were spiced with performances from top Ugandan musicians who included Sheebah, Winnie Nwagi, John Blaq, Vinka, Levixone and Azawi among others, giving viewers something more to look forward to every week.
This year’s MoMo Nyabo promotion, which was returning for the 3rd edition, was aimed at helping MTN customers with the much-needed support following the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the welfare of many Ugandans.
Over UGX 1 billion in mobile money prizes was given away to lucky customers and MTN MoMo Agents and/or merchants.
Prophet Elvis Mbonye held his annual gala n the 1st of September and had a mammoth virtual crowd. The honor night also hosted Internationally acclaimed Gospel artiste Micah Stampley who had a heartwarming message for the Prophet and also sang for him one of his favourite tunes HEVEAN ON EARTH.
U cd useNobert Mao at Mbonye fellowship on 7th Jan this yr
Other notable messages came in from Pastor Simeone Kayiwa and Honorable Norbert Mao, who acknowledged that a prophetic assignment is seldom welcome in high places and like the prophets of old Prophet Elvis has been a target of persecution and opposition.
“Therefore in the same breath with which we honor him we also evoke the protective words written in Jeremiah 1:9 by saying; “Attack you they will, overcome you they can’t.” Said Hon. Mao.
However, despite the impressive turn up online, inside sources have cited sabotage in the broadcast as the online gala had a few faultings. Inspite of all this glamour and global online audience that tipped the 14k mark, reliable sources reveal that there were concerted efforts by certain hands in high places, perhaps both locally and globally, that worked round the clock to ensure the event was not broadcast online.
Gospel singer Micah Stampley
The sources also reveal that the contracted internet providers on the day, Roke Telecom, have since been cagey and vague on what exactly happened on such a night that Remnants are known to leave no stone unturned.

It was a night of surprises as Lucy was evicted from the BBNaija house just minutes after Erica was disqualified from the show.
Erica was disqualified for breaking the house rules, and threatening harm on a fellow housemate which earned her a 3rd strike and ultimately being kicked out of the house.
The week had began with Erica winning the Head of House challenge, making her a two-time head of house. This time, she picked Prince as her Deputy Head of House, which gave both of them immunity from eviction.
Big Brother officially re-introduced the old nomination and eviction process that fans knew from previous seasons. After the Head of House games that saw Erica and Prince secure immunity from nominations, each of the housemates has to put up two housemates each for eviction.
At the end of the nomination process, Lucy, Laycon, TrikyTee, Kiddwaya, Nengi and Vee had the highest nominations and were immediately put up for possible eviction.
Lucy speaking with Ebuka said she didn’t hug anyone when she was leaving the house because she didn’t want to get emotional. She also explained that she had the most disagreements with her fellow housemates because she saw through their schemes and couldn’t understand why no one else saw what she saw.
She also spoke on her friendship with Dorathy and Prince. She felt Dorathy’s snide remarks when the fight happened between her and Erica hurt her a lot, and even though she didn’t expect Prince to jump to her defence, he should have been a better friend.
Lucy said the first thing she’d do is to have one week of sleep without alarms. Although she would miss Biggie’s voice, she would not miss the cameras. She also said she would now focus on her food business and hopefully open a restaurant someday.
It was pomp and glamour over the weekend as Ugandan comedian, Kenneth Kimuli, famously known by stage names Pablo Yagayo and wife Karen Kimuli celebrated their 10th marriage anniversary.
Pablo and wife
Its no doubt, Pablo and Karen’s 10years of holy marriage have drawn such an enormous inspiration to the public and upcoming lovers.
The couple’s cheerful day was marked with a number of surprise twists in the celebrations that Pablo is still fascinated about.
Pablo reveals how him and wife being among the Non-essential workers that the President categorized, had opted for simple celebrations of just two people but plans got over turned with time into something huge and memorable.
This was after they were hit daily with a true definition of celebrating a ‘10th anniversary’ which they were convinced that it comes once in a lifetime if you are lucky.
Read Pablo’s full narration;
Like most men, my financial calculations are often in a different currency.
We look at things in terms of bills of quantities.
They tell you a plate of chicken is 30k and all you see is a bag of cement going to waste.
Our tenth marriage anniversary showed up yesterday #04thSept and we always dreamt of having a flowery celebration. My wife and I are not essential workers based on the presidential covid19 SOP’s.
He actually categorized us ‘Leja leja’ loosely translated as wage-based workers.
We decided that we were going to celebrate our anniversary just the two of us and call it a day.
Along the way, we asked ourselves; what is life if it’s not worth celebrating? I hit the acceleration gear and called up a few friends who bought into the idea of a scientific anniversary with complete renewal of vows.
My wife believes that the sky should always be the limit in all we do and yes, Protea Hotels by Marriott Naguru Skyz was the place to be. Immediately my mind switched to the ‘Mens’ mode of currency.
I couldn’t see myself leaving a whole land title in the name of food and wot wont won’t.
In the same moment it instantly hit me that a 10th anniversary comes once in a lifetime if you are lucky. Once in the kitchen you stand the heat. We started drawing budgets.
The elegance and unique culture of glamour is what captured our attention upon entering Naguru Skyz Hotel.
A lady wearing a million-dollar smile ushered us to the reception and took us through their cuisine.
Their hospitality gives you a great clarity of what value for money means. The unique, sacrosanct, and beautiful architecture is enviable.
The view of the city from the terrace is admirable and the breeze is refreshing.
We were pleasantly surprised and humbled by their prices. They fit exactly in our budget without thinking of bills and quantities.
Simply put, they gave us a 5 🌟 treatment at a 2 🌟 price.
I can’t help but thank God for his grace and yes, Naguru Skyz, “I’ll be back!” (In Arnold Schwarzenegger’s voice).
The love birds met 15years ago and have been blessed with two children.
Pablo has had such a tremendous comedy career with both local and international performances and recognitions.

Mentor Senior Secondary School from Lira district have emerged winners of this year’s Stanbic Bank National Schools Championship. This after a panel of judges selected their business plan, Edutele, an education consultancy service that has been helping students attend virtual classes during the lock down, as the overall best startup.
The other finalists were Nabisunsa Girls School from Central Uganda, Kyebambe Girls from Western Uganda, and Mpumudde Seed Senior School from Eastern Uganda.
Unlike the previous National School Championships, this year brought together all students and schools that have excelled in the championship and continue to nurture the businesses that they started as a result of the championship.
The three in one awards ceremony had three categories of winners involving both the students, alumni and existing schools from past years under the categories; Startup challenge – New business ideas generated, BizGrow challenge – Existing businesses in schools from past four years and AlumGrow challenge – National Schools alumni personal businesses.
Some 600 business ideas were generated during the course of the competition compared to 400 last year. Students were also challenged to take into account the COVID-19 pandemic and present business plans that were in conformity to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Also notable this year, was that most of the activities during the qualifying stages were carried out online due to the pandemic that forced the government to close educational institutions at the end of March. However there was no letup in the enthusiasm among the students.
Barbara Kasekende, Stanbic Bank’s Corporate Social Investments (CSI) Manager speaking during the awards ceremony at Sheraton hotel Kampala said, “I have been amazed by the kind of projects the students came up with. They managed to find gaps in their communities where they live and proposed solutions for these challenges including COVID-19. Just over 60% of the business plans entailed the manufacture of hand sanitizers and/or similar sanitation products.”
The Stanbic National Schools Championship, now in its 5th edition, is the Bank’s flagship CSI programme. Its aim is to enhance skills development through equipping students with entrepreneurship and critical thinking skills in an effort to help prepare them to be job creators in the future.
“The students displayed an amazing ‘I Can Do it’ attitude which is part and parcel of why this CSI programme remains so popular five years after we started this initiative. We started out with 40 schools. Last year 72 schools took part, but this year we had 100.” She added.
Apart from business proposals to counter the COVID-19 pandemic, students also presented proposals for reusable sanitary pads, potato processing, flavored ghee, digital services for marketing and learning.
In 2016 and, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Championship was launched.
Since then, several partners from both the public and private sector have come onboard. Today, the programme has over 12 partners and continues to run with the theme ‘Empowering the job creators of tomorrow’.
The focus is on entrepreneurship and life skills in order to empower young people to relate with the new modern world.
If you are new to sports betting and are looking for tips on how to begin, this is your guide. Over time, sports betting has evolved to online platforms like Betway, unlike in the past, where punters had to visit bookmakers physically. In this guide, you might not find everything you need to understand to begin. However, you’ll learn enough to get you started.
Tip 1 – Have a Budget
Before you do anything else, determine the amount of money you are willing to risk. Once you know the funds available for sports betting, develop a plan. It could be a weekly or monthly financial plan. Then, ensure you follow it strictly.
When you’re beginning, you’re likely to lose more than win, therefore only stake money you’re comfortable losing. It would be smart to begin with a minimal budget, even if you have more money at your disposal.
After selecting a reasonable amount, decide how much you’ll stake per bet. You can start by wagering like 2% of the overall budget.
Tip 2 – Settle on What You’ll Bet On
In the past, gamblers could only bet on mainstream sports activities. But, today, you can literally bet on every sport event. Online betting platforms like Betway offer markets on almost all sports played professionally. You can also bet on all the tournaments, leagues, and competitions.
However, you cannot bet on all the sports. You need to decide on the sports you’ll focus on. Make this choice before you begin placing your bets. It would be best to bet on sports you are a fan of. Also, select a sport that has plenty of betting opportunities and is available throughout the year.
Tip 3- Choose a Betting Site
You can place your bets in different ways. However, doing it online is the easiest way. There are many online betting platforms available, but you have to select the one you’ll use. Choose credible sites because you’ll be staking with real cash.
Join a platform that has been in operation for some time and has a good reputation. You can compare the odds among the best sites and settle for the one that offers the best odds.
Tip 4- Familiarize Yourself with the Odds
In sports betting odds play a significant role. As you grow in the venture, you’ll want to grasp everything about odds. First, understand the three formats in which odds are presented: decimal, Moneyline, and fractional. Decimal is the prevalent form on online platforms like Betway.
Learn how to use the odds to calculate implied probability. Also, find out how sportsbooks utilize them to their benefit.
Tip 5 – Study the Simple Wagers
You can select from several sports wagers. It would help if you weren’t under pressure to master them all in the beginning. As a beginner, it would be best to start with the simple bets.
Some of the simple bets include the Moneyline bet, points spread, and totals bets. Familiarize yourself with these simple bets then grow gradually from there.
Bottom Line
Sports betting can be a fun way of making money. As a beginner, don’t be in a hurry to make the quick buck. Take your time to learn the art, then select a reputable platform like Betway and get started. Start with simple objectives, and then adjust as you become more experienced.
For three years now, Telecom giant, MTN Uganda runs an annual Mobile Money Promotion known as MoMoNyabo. All MTN customers are eligible to participate and they are required to perform an MTN MoMo activity such as buying airtime, sending money or making payments in order to be stand a chance of winning.
The Covid-19 pandemic presented a different scenario with people’s lives being affected adversely affected both on a personal or business perspective. To that end MTN decided to stand with its customers as they were going through the rebuilding process. This year’s MoMo Nyabo promotion focused on giving out Mobile Money prizes with the aim of helping people to financially rebuild following the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that has left many people financially struggling.
After the six weeks’ promotion that saw over 1.2 Billion shillings in prize money and over 7000 winners from all walks of life and different parts of the country, Steven Nsubuga, the MoMo Nyabo Project Manager had this to say: “We have seen winners including teachers, farmers, hair stylists, students, business people, cab drivers and many others and we hope their prize money goes a long way in helping them during this period as they rebuild.”
He added; “More and more customers are embracing MTN MoMo because it is convenient and versatile with customers making all kinds of payments, sending and receiving money across Uganda, throughout East Africa and indeed around the world and customers are also saving and borrowing using MoKash.”
As suggested by the name “MoMo Nyabo Together”, the promotion saw the winners sharing some of their prize money with their loved ones or communities as a way of helping each other rebuild ‘together’ as we continue coping with the effects of the pandemic.
For instance, Elikana Ecima, a headteacher from Arua, one of the winners who got UGX5,000,000 chose his wife Angucia Neria as a beneficiary to the money he won. Whereas Neria walked away with UGX2,000,000, he stayed with UGX3,000,000. Ecima was one of the several winners who took part in the MoMo Nyabo Together TV game show hosted by Zahara Toto and Patricko Mujuuka.
There were 2 daily winners from Monday to Friday who were randomly chosen and called in the TV show. Apart from the winners like Ecima who were called in studio, there were 250 people who won UGX 50,000 everyday which was sent to their phones using MTN MoMo. All they had to do was pay for anything using MTN MoMo and stand a chance to win.
According to Stephen Mutana, the General Manager MTN Mobile Financial Services, this promotion was aimed at giving back to the customers that have supported MTN and the MTN Mobile Money services altogether.
“The promotion came to a successful end last week and we couldn’t be any happier. We are glad we were able to not only give back to our customers but we also showed our commitment to stand with our customers during hard times such as this one,” Mutana said. He urged the MTN customers to continue using MTN MoMo because of its safety, convenience and affordability.
Christina Molly Kabuye one of the MoMoNyabo Together Promotion winners from Sembabule district praised MTN for remembering its customers especially in these hard times.
Like Kabuye, many of the winners were thankful to MTN for choosing to reward them with Mobile Money at a time when they least expected it.
From paying hospital bills to revamping businesses and paying school fees, the MTN MoMoNyabo Together promotion has resuscitated the lives of many Ugandans and their loved ones in so many ways.
Having run the impactful MTN MoMoNyabo promotion between July and August to help its customers rebuild from the devastating Covid-19 financial disruptions, MTN Uganda has, this month of September shifted its attention to protecting its customers and the entire nation at large by encouraging mask wearing as one of the most effective ways of preventing the virus.
Dubbed #WearItForMe, the campaign will see MTN reach out to the communities to embrace the much-needed behavior change as a way of fighting the spread of Corona virus.
Multi-genre songstress Cindy Sanyu has opened up on her career and why she dumped the idea of having musical managers.
This was during her visit to Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s Worship House church, Kampala, for a service.
Cindy and Pastor Bugembe
In her summon to the scanty congregation, Cindy narrated how she decided to lose huge opportunities that would thrillingly uplift her music career but maintain her right place before God, the creator.
Cindy revealed that she solely became the only music artiste in Uganda to drop will of working with any management.
This was because, a number of male music managers would at times persuade her to sleep with them in reward of pleasant music gigs and platforms.
“There are so many opportunities I have lost in life because I decided to do what is right. Am the only artiste in Uganda who decided to not have a management because I knew that managements most times involves you selling yourself. I mean selling your personal values as a woman yet most times you,” Cindy said.
The self-proclaimed ‘King herself’ also noted how such an act deeply degrades any woman’s personal values, prospects and aspects in life.
Many have ended up losing lives and dreams because of the lifetime frustration and depression they are capped into.
“As a woman you wish to only love one man whom you love not the man who is giving you deals. So, you want to fall in love genuinely. When you get a manager sometimes you have to keep sleeping with him so that they would continue giving you deals,” Cindy added.
She further narrated how she turned down advise of having a manager from her friends and reputable music advisers in the industry.
“So, I decided that am not going to have a manager and instead I said whenever I needed one, I would call my sister.
So many things lost because of that. Many times, people used to tell me, so you are not international, why don’t you just accept and join this management so that you can go international.”
Cindy noted that she stayed glued to her decision with the belief that God would one day reward her for her faithfulness and we can all attest to the fact that he has kept her name among the top female artistes in the country for the last 18years despite her competitors falling-off with time.
“I didn’t join particular cults, rituals or sleep with some people because I wanted to do my things right. I believe that if you do things rightfully God blesses you.”
Without doubt, Cindy still stands out among the longtime divas in Uganda with a lit music career endowed with mammoth of both local and international awards and recognitions.
Of recent, Cindy landed record of the first female artist to hold a successful music concert ‘Boom Party’ at Lugogo Cricket Oval, Uganda’s renowned biggest music concert venue.

She is also equipped with an outstanding music catalogue of masterpieces.
