The annual Nile Special 5-aside football tournament makes a return for the second successive year following a very successful inaugural campaign at the end of which the Ugandan ladies emerged African champions.

The national premier social football league is scheduled to kick off on Saturday, 4th April in Arua and Kabale at Police Grounds and Main Stadium respectively revealed the brand manager Francis Nyende during the launch of the soccer showpiece today at Fast Fusion Sports.

The unique social league is scheduled to extend its reach to various new regions in an effort to cultivate friendship bonds beyond one’s geographical borders.

“The first edition of the Nile Special 5s was a great one for us as a country. Our girls set the bar quite high and it’s up to the teams to rise to the occasion this year. The feat will certainly be harder to replicate because Uganda is no longer a little known entity in this tournament. We are giants,” said Nyende.

“But the journey starts here at home,” added Nyende. “Teams have to first be national champions before they can conquer Africa. All one has to do is to buy 5 Nile Special beers and register his or her team of five to take part in the competition; first the preliminary level, then the regionals and the grand finale. It’s the winner that this stage that gets the opportunity to represent the county at the continental tournament that will be in South Africa between the 16th and 20th of July 2020.”

Unlike the previous tournament, the national representatives will be escorted by 10 fans to the continental showpiece. To stand a chance to be among the lucky fans, one is required to participate in the Samuel Eto consumer promotion. Information on participation is available on our social media platforms.

In 2018 the campaign launched with six countries mainly from the Southern parts of Africa: South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and east African country, Tanzania. Last year, saw a major step-up with the addition of three more countries in Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda. In addition to widening the leagues footprint into other countries, a women’s division was introduced to the League.

Gen. Muzeyi Sabiiti vows to fight Multiple Corruption Cases at INTERPOL

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) has stepped up investigations into various officer misconduct cases at INTERPOL head offices in Kololo which have left the image of the establishment dented.

For a longtime, Uganda Police had been grappling with furnishing its internal imagine as several of its officers previously participated in criminality until the entire administration was overhauled, some rogue cops detained while others since ran into self exile.

The appointment of Maj. General Sabiiti and Martin Okoth Ochola as IGP was welcomed by the public as a new measure of combating misconduct that ruined the force.

Whereas some of the directorates which were questioned have since improved, INTERPOL has however, taken a nosedive with corruption taking toll, systems breaking down, incompetence, favoritism, among others.

It should be noted that this is very sensitive directorate that deals with many foreigners but the unscrupulous officers of INTERPOL mind less on tarnishing their imagine.

This website, a fortnight conducted an investigation which revealed very illicit undertakings that occur at INTERPOL.

For example, the law stipulates that the directorate must award certificate of good in not less than 2 weeks, but shockingly some individuals in town have been able to get these documents in one day while others are delayed up to six months.

“It depends on how you approach these officers. If you give a good bribe they will do what you want. If you don’t they will frustrate you,” said a source.

INTERPOL director AIGP Moses Balimwoyo had earlier acknowledged cases of corruption in his department earlier.

In an extensive interview with this website at his office Balimwoya said he “had taken action against those dirty officers.”

“I suspended them. I don’t joke.”But Balimwoyo’s actions haven’t saved the situation.

We have established afresh that every table you go to, you either leave “kintu kidigo” (bribe) or step aside and they work on those who have

The department is in total breakdown. For example, no clearance has been made for the whole of last week.

The delays, unfortunately affect labour companies which register mass individuals who are seeking employment abroad.

Some labour companies which asked not to be named are stuck with 600 to 1000 workers who have not obtained clearance after applying for close to three months.

“INTERPOL says each individual must pay shs 79000 at the head offices. But some labour recruitment companies suggested that they could pay to the bank and present receipts as evidence to able to expedite the process which authorities denied,” said a source.

“Because they know they will be losing a chance to solicit money from us,” a source added.

The delay further is in registration on the terminal machines. The systems’ network is always down.

“Generally the situation is deplorable,” added a source.

These concerns have been raised in a meeting convened by line Minister Frank Tumwebaze, attended State House anti-corruption unit head Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, owners of Labour Recruitment companies and INTERPOL director.

Maj. Gen. Muzeyi Sabiiti who learnt of these dirty dealings that leave police in disrepute has promised to take a stern action against INTERPOL officers.

“We shall investigate fully and take full action,” Sabiiti who looked unaware told this website.

Mr. Sabiiti wondered whether AIGP Balimwoyo is aware of these dirty dealings happening in his office.

Asked how long he will take to streamline the department, Sabiiti said it will be soon.

StarTimes two years ago made a big investment in Ugandan football and talent when they bought the broadcast rights of Uganda’s topflight football league, birthing the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. The league airs on Sanyuka TV and is viewed by millions of passionate Ugandans.

Sanyuka TV on 1st February 2020 was moved from the Nova Bouquet to the Basic Bouquet, something that did not leave many Ugandans happy. The number of viewers reduced and consequently the Uganda Premier League fans were reduced to less than half. Many were left disgruntled.

StarTimes has heard the cry of many Ugandans and returned their much loved Sanyuka TV to the most affordable StarTimes bouquet – Nova. Greg Busolo, the Operations Manager at Sanyuka TV says, “Putting into consideration what our audience was telling us, we jointly decided to return Sanyuka TV to the StarTimes Nova bouquet. So far we have aired 69 games of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and we plan to show more once the league resumes in May. We really appreciate the support the viewers have shown us.

Cleopatra Koheirwe the StarTimes PR Manager said, “We also have more content. The other good news is that the Fox Channels such as: Nat Geo Wild, National Geographic, ESPN, Foxlife and Fox are back! Plus we now have Nina Telenovela – a new channel for Telemundo fans, The General’s Daughter – a new TV series premiering on 25th March 2020 on Novela E Plus and more. So besides football and Sanyuka TV, there is a lot to enjoy on StarTimes. Prophets, Pastors Report Huge Losses as Uganda Corona Virus Shutdown Comes to Bite

Known for being seers, Mr. Futures, Prophets have Pastors have declared operating losses following a temporary halt to their businesses.

One Prophet while meeting Jesus over the weekend complained that he did not see this coming and that Jesus should perform a miracle.

President Museveni while addressing the national on Corona Virus said;

Once we deal with the concentrations in the Educational Institutions, the next concentrations that we must deal with are the religious gatherings: prayers in Churches, in Mosques, open air prayers and services on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. In the interests of our people’s health, these should be suspended for a month with immediate effect.
Why with immediate effect? The answer is, a question of logic: “What if a person that is not yet infected today with the virus is infected tomorrow, Thursday the 19th of March, 2020, was to be infected in the last Service that had been called “to pray for the last time?” How would God forgive us and how would we forgive ourselves?”
When it comes to health, it is better to be a coward and be on the side of caution. If there is no danger after one month, that will be good. If there was danger, we would have avoided it. The Prayers will continue but in homes. The Religious leaders can use the TVs, Radios stations to continue preaching. His Holiness, Pope Francis, as usual set a good example of enlightenment on this by abandoning his customary preaching in St. Peters’ Square and is instead, using the TV.

How A Young Man Reconciled Kirumira and Sudhir?

$

By Staff Writer

In the aftermath of Bank of Uganda taking over Crane Bank, there was a rift between two of Uganda’s richest men. This rift would also go on to mark the collapse of the Kwagalana group. These two rich men were none other than Godfrey Kirumira and Sudhir Ruparelia.

At the time, it was becoming evident that Sudhir would end up in Luzira prison. Many of his friends would immediately begin to distance themselves from him as they saw his as some kind of plague at the time. “Sudhir was being isolated, no one wanted to even be pictured with him. BOU at the time had vowed to pursue him to the last property he owned in town,” says our source.

At the time, there were series of meetings that took place with the President and other parties. It is in this meetings that Sudhir would find the last lifeline on which to hang. It was too late to save the bank but it became clear after this meetings that Sudhir would not step in Luzira as many had earlier thought.

Kirumira who used to be a regular at Sudhir’s kabira country club became very absent. He used to go to Kabira every morning to read newspapers. He shifted to Africanna. Sources within Sudhir’s camp interpreted this as the final cut.

These strains went across to the children. The two best friends, Gideon and Rajiv each became rare in the other’s life. It is said that Rajiv and father went on a blocking spree. They were keeping their circle smaller. Around the same time, they would go on to fall out with the Chimpreports boss, Giles Muhame.

But how did Kirumira make it back to the good books of Sudhir? It is said, for this to be possible, it took the diplomatic brokering of a young man in this city.

“There is a young man who appears to have no power in this city. But it is him who singlehandedly brought the two back to talking terms. He even ensured that Gideon Kirumira became a regular at the Rajiv rally events. This young man, a lover of the skirt would then walk to Sudhir and advise him to begin rebuilding for the future. He told Sudhir how every friendship goes through strains. Both camps had tried to outfist each other. One camp thought the other wanted them implicated for the Kasiwukira murder. The other thought it had collaborated with the mafia to take Crane bank. It was time for the two camps to accept that something went wrong.

The cheerleaders in both camps were partly responsible for the rift. “You know the cheerleaders will spread all sorts of rumours as long as that means Sudhir or Kirumira would keep them even closer,” our source tells us.

With the reunion of the two rich men, could it imply the rebirth of the Kwagalana family? We shall return with a full story of how beef killed Kwagalana and how Uganda’s rich men are baying for each other’s collapse and why Forbes dropped Uganda from its assessments.

Uganda Network of young people living with HIV & AIDS (UNYPA) has unveiled their strategic plan for the next five years. The plan was unveiled during the annual Y Plus Summit which was held at Hotel Africana under the theme, “changing the narrative for young people living with HIV”.

Addressing guests at the summit, Olga Daphne Namukuza, the UNYPA Programs Manager revealed that they are expanding their HIV prevention program to target young people who don’t know their status and also integrating aspects like mental health awareness, gender based violence and malaria response among others in their strategic plan for the next five years.

“National and international trends of HIV are changing and so this is what is guiding us,” she revealed. “We will expand HIV prevention program to target young people who do not know their HIV status through intensified behavioral change messaging to prevent further new infections.”

According to UNAIDS, 1.4 million people in Uganda were living with HIV by the close of 2018. Further more, for every 1,000 new infections, a third are young people between the ages of 15 and 25.

“Young people are struggling with mental health issues and are also are at a big risk for gender based violence. If we therefore don’t address also these issues, we are doing big disservice to the young people.” She added.

As part of the 5-year strategic plan, UNYPA will also strengthen social mobilization, movement building and advocacy for inclusive participation of young people living by HIV in policy, legal and program development to ensure that their unique needs are met.

The strategic plan was developed with consultations from donors, implementing partners, district leaders and youth at district level.

In the wake of global pandemic, COVID-19, MultiChoice Group (MCG) is broadening access to credible information at this time by making news channels more widely available across the continent.

They have opened access to CNN International and Euronews for DStv Access customers, joining BBC Word News, Aljazeera and brand new channel Africanews.

“We have been in constant communication with health authorities such as the World Health Organisation, and we will be rolling out Africa-wide public service announcements on COVID-19. It is important that all of us take heed of the announcements and advice from trusted experts so that we can look after our own health and that of our loved ones,” says MultiChoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela.

The video entertainment company is not only expanding its content offering for news, but there will also be more kids shows, movies and curated sports content.

“In light of the disruptions to the school year in Uganda, we are also working to provide access to the best available educational content, to help keep young minds stimulated and engaged,” said Hassan Saleh, the MultiChoice Uganda Managing Director.

Live sports has suffered a notable impact globally as a result of sporting federations correctly prioritising the safety of players and fans alike, by adhering to accepted measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. MCG has acquired the best award-winning sport documentaries from around the globe, and produced thematic channels for sports fans to relive the greatest sporting moments of all time.

“We are taking great care for our staff and have put in place all precautionary measures to ensure their safety,” Saleh adds. “In light of this we have advised our customers that there may be a delay in our ability to attend to customer queries. However, we have a number of self-service and online platforms available, and we will do our best to sort out any issues they may have, timeously.”
