By Our Reporter

Ugandan movie,”Kony: Order from Above” has been selected for screening at the African Film Festival (TAFF) which will take place in June this year in Dallas, Texas, USA.

The development was revealed by the movie director Steve T Ayeny who noted that this is a big achievement for the Ugandan film industry.

“It is a big achievement that a Ugandan film has been selected among many other films from different countries around the world for TAFF,” Ayeny disclosed. “As a director, I am very excited and feel that God has really done amazing things in our lives. 2020 we have bigger projects coming up.”

TAFF celebrates films and arts that either promote African culture; address issues affecting Africa and people of African descent; or explore African landmarks and historic leaders.

Meanwhile, last year in November, the film launched a North America tour and so far it has had 11 screenings in cities like Montreal and Ottawa, Canada among others.

“Right now we are proud that our work is out there being watched by people all over the world,” Ayeny added.

Based on a true story, “Kony: Order from Above” is a drama that  tells a story of two youth, Otti and Aguti who fall in love during the tumultuous northern Uganda Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency.

NSSF Kampala 7 Hills Hash Run which has been launched for the 5th edition aims to raise Ugx 700 Million which will go towards renovating select public schools.

Announcing the Run at Mbuya Primary school, Richard Byarugaba, the NSSF Managing Director told journalists that the Fund is responding to a challenge every year to contribute to the wellbeing of the underprivileged communities.

“Most of the underprivileged children in Kampala attend these KCCA public schools so it is befitting that our intervention in Education goes towards improvement of learning conditions in these schools. There is no greater impact you can make on a child or community than through education,” he said.

He also added that in addition to KCCA public schools, proceeds from the Run will also benefit 2 other schools in East and Northern Uganda.

KCCA Executive Director Eng. Andrew Kitaka said that partnerships with institutions such as NSSF have gone along in supplementing Government efforts to improve learning conditions in schools.

“When we started this partnership with NSSF, our target was to replace all asbestos roofs in Kampala public primary schools. We are glad that we are almost at the tail end of this endeavor. However, we also realise that some structures in a very bad shape. That is why we propose to use some of the proceeds to renovate such structures,” he said.

The schools earmarked to benefit from the proceeds are Munyonyo Primary School, St Paul Nsambya in Kampala, and Adwari Primary School in Otuke District and Pioneer Primary School in Soroti.

Byarugaba called upon individual runners to sign up in large numbers to participate in this run, not only because it is for a noble cause but also an exciting and challenging race that runners will enjoy.

“We need to have over 5000 individual runners and participation from over 50 corporate companies if we are to realise our ambitious target this year. Corporate and group participation attracts very competitive packages while individual runners can register at only UGX 25,000,” he said.

Individuals can pay using mobile money through a short code *217*277#.

Slated for March 29th, the run will commence at Pearl of Africa Primary School in Nsambya. The route traverses the original hills of Kampala namely, Nsambya Nakasero, Kibuli, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Rubaga, and Lubiri and will cover a distance of 21km.

6 schools have so far benefited from the past editions. These include Nakivubo Settlement, Makerere University and St. Ponsiano Kyamula. Works are also scheduled to begin at Mbuya Primary school, St. Paul Nsambya, and Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped.

Cindy Sanyu speaking to media during a press conference held at Bight of Benin on Monday.

By Our Reporter

Musician Cindy Sanyu is set for a mega concert dubbed “Boom Party Concert” slated for this Saturday, March 7 at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The “Ayokyayokya” star will be hoping to make history as the first Ugandan female musician to take on the arduous venue, one that has predominantly been used by international artists and countable Ugandan male artists.

Although she admitted worrisomeness about the choice of venue, she insists it is for the greater good and hopes to inspire fellow female musicians with the daring move.

“As a female musician who has been in the industry for over a decade, I wanted to cement my legacy with something that has not be done before. This is why I ended up choosing to hold my concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval.” Cindy told media during a press briefing held at Bight of Benin restaurant on Monday.

“I also want to squash this notion that it is only international musicians that can fill up Lugogo as well as inspire fellow women that it can be done.” She added.

Meanwhile, Cindy has promised to give fans a memorable experience, revealing that she will be performing with twice the number of dancers and instrumentalists than she usually does.

The “Boom Party Concert” will feature other artists such as Kent & Flosso, Eddy Kenzo, Maro, Karole Kasita, Rabadaba, Silver X (from South Sudan), and Viper Ranking among others.

“I know I can’t do this on my own. I am calling on everyone to come and support me.  Join me and we make history together.” She concluded.

The concert is being organised by Nexus Events and sponsored by Tusker Malt. Tickets are on sale at Shs. 20,000 (ordinary), Shs. 50,000 (VIP) and Shs 1,000,000(table).

The show that will beheld at Kampala Serena Hotel is organized by Masrob Events and the idea was championed by Hymn Singer Julian Nakato also known as Nakie Julian. Accordingto Nakie, gospel events have not seen success and have not been fully supported over the years. “I sat down in 2014 and thought of how to change the mindset of those who attend gospel concerts and thought about something fresh” Nakie says. She goes on to say that the Hymn Experience is an idea he got because Hymnsongs are forgotten but loved by many church goers. This year’s theme will be Bring Back The Choir and different choirs from different churches will come together to perform for the crowd at Kampala Serena Hotel. Among the notable performers who will be on stage alongside Nakie Julian will include calvary Cross Choir, Golden GateChoir, All Saints Choir, and Jehovah Shalom which is an Acapella outfit. Tugende Mu Kikadde Show to Give Revelers A Taste of the Good Old Times

There was a time when Ugandan music was fine. When the music writers wove such poetry and the videos were devoid of female video vixens in overtly revealing outfits. A time when the lyrics oozed artistry and finesse. When the production wasn’t rushed so that the final mastered version of a song that hit the market would cut across generations. Many Ugandan musical zealots miss those times. But not anymore. Sprout Africa has again organized the Tugende Mu Kikadde concert to take Ugandans back to those times.

Come 04th April 2020, every car nose should head to Kampala Serena Hotel for the 04th Edition of the mega oldies concert. The event is set to feature the very cream of old school musical superstars like, Kabuye Semboga, Mariam Ndagire, Raga Dee, Sweet Kid, Phoebe Nasoolo, Fred Sebaale and Sarah Zawedde. Speaking at this presser today, you are all rest assured Tugende Mu Kikadde is set to bring together all revelers from different generations.

“Tugende Mu Kikadde is to help Ugandans reminisce about those times. For the older generation, it will be memories about songs that made them escape home or school to dance to. Or songs they fell in love to like Kabuye Semboga’s famous ‘ebisanyi’.

“For the younger generation, it will be for the sheer fun of seeing their parents unhinged in ways they’ll perhaps never see again. Still, for those in the current generation that are not already versed with the iconic craftsmanship of the star-studded line up, it will be a historical night where they are introduced to legendary music.

Even better, is that Tugende Mu Kikadde will be a red carpet affair. A VIP experience where all revelers will enjoy the historical night with utmost hospitality.

THE TRIBUTE

Tugende Mu Kikadde being a legendary celebrating platform, we created a tribute session to celebrate the biggest late music icon.

As of this edition, TMK is paying tribute to the late “ELLY WAMALA” (RIP), in this tribute we have selected cream de la cream of the late Icon’s music to be performed by each of our Artists at the end or beginning of their performances.

ABOUT ELLY WAMALA (The father of Uganda’s music recording industry)

Some of you may/not know the late Elly Wamala, below is a brief about the famous icon;

Fondly known to his fans as Evergreen, Wamala’s longevity, inspiration of subsequent musicians, the number of hit songs and his role in developing the local music industry in the 1950s and 1960s is unmatched by his peers. It is for that reason that it is not misguided to refer to Wamala, who passed away in 2004, as ‘the father of Uganda’s modern recording music industry’.

Sixteen years since his passing, he remains alive in our hearts, living rooms, in theatres and bars and every possible medium. We relive the life, legacy, times and timeless music of one of Uganda’s iconic artistes – evergreen even in death, Elishama Wamala.

As a way to celebrate the late Elly Wamala’s life, 16 years after his demise, TMK has decided to collaborate with this year’s artist lineup to perform over 8 of his songs that were popular then as a sign of recognition and paying tribute to Elishama Wamala.

This year’s edition is proudly brought to you by MTN Uganda, Stanbic Bank, Schweppes, Nile Special, 91.3 Capital Fm, KADANKE, NTV, Daily Monitor and Alfa Creations.

Having launched as Castle Africa 5s in 2018, Africa’s Premier Social Football League makes an impactful return for the third successive year. Since the launch of this unique social league, the continental five-a-side football showpiece has extended its reach in an effort to cultivate friendship bonds beyond borders. As of 2019, the campaign has been renamed to Africa Fives, as it is more inclusive, which is seen with the collaboration of seven ABinBev brands from across Africa.

In 2018 the campaign launched with six countries mainly from the Southern parts of Africa: South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and east African country, Tanzania. Last year, saw a major step-up with the addition of three more countries in Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda. In addition to widening the leagues footprint into other countries, as a brand rooted in inclusivity and social belonging, a women’s division was introduced to the League.

The 2020 edition is set to make an even bigger impact across the continent as the tournament will be extended from 8 to 16 countries in both the men and women’s division. Furthermore, the vibrant cross-continent tournament will be opened to amateur and professional players.

Castle Lager Brand Director, Kudzi Mathabire shared her excitement for the campaign’s refresh which will see Castle Lager partner with six other ABinBev beer brands, “Each year we aim to take this league to greater heights by expanding our footprint across the African continent. To effectively reach this footprint, we need a greater understanding of how each country operates and what better way to do so than partnering with brands that have that knowledge.  Although the experience will be the same across the board, we acknowledge that each country has their own unique way of operating and we celebrate the melting pot of cultures coming together through a sport that we all love – football.” added Mathabire at the campaign media launch event in Lagos, Nigeria.

Trophy will manage the Nigerian leg of the tournament, while Castle Lager will manage six of the countries in Lesotho, Mauritius, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe. Carling Black Label will manage Botswana and Namibia along with Dourada (Mozambique), Safari (Tanzania), Nile (Uganda), Club (Ghana) will each manage a single country. The entries from Cameroon, Senegal and Ivory Coast will be handled by the tournament’s activations agency.

Consumers from the various countries will have to stay tuned to the allocated brand communication for entry mechanics, alternative can visit campaign website on  www.Africa5s.com  / Twitter page:- @Africa Fives  or follow the #Africa 5s to further engage on the campaign.

Male and female country winners from each market, will  get an opportunity to represent their country at the  Continental finals scheduled to take place in South Africa between the 16th and 20th of July 2020 .  This showpiece will see two Continental final winning teams, each bag an all-expenses paid trip to the Serie A classic derby between Inter Milan and AC Milan later this year, hosted by the renowned legend and Africa 5s ambassador Samuel Eto’o.

Veronica Ndagire, one of the jackpot winners in the recently concluded Shell 10 Weeks of Cheer campaign.

By Our Reporter

Vivo Energy Uganda, the company that distributes and markets Shell branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda, brought cheer to motorists with exciting rewards in their recently concluded Shell 10 Weeks of Cheer campaign.

The campaign which kicked off in December and ended with February saw customers who spent UGX50,000 at a participating Shell station handed draw coupons requiring them to enter the competition by sending a unique code and their license registration number to 8008 by SMS.

Through weekly draws, 10 lucky jackpot winners walked away with UGX 500,000 worth of fuel each.

“My work involves a lot of field work and we often have to use a car,” Veronica Ndagire,  a sales personnel who was one of the jackpot winners said. “One day, while filling up at a Shell fuel station in Namanve we were given scratch cards, and that is when I started sending messages.”

Ndagire revealed that she was skeptical about the promotion, and could not believe that she was one of the lucky jackpot winners.

“I even thought the promotion was not real and did not believe it when someone from Vivo Energy called me telling me that I had won fuel worth 500K.” She said. “I had almost shrugged it off, and then I received a message reminding me to go redeem my fuel.”

For Kugonza Jennifer, who had learned about the promotion through a friend, she had no doubts when she was told she was one of the winners.

“I was encouraged to participate in the promotion by my friend who had already won free fuel,” Kugoza said. “After sending messages for a week, I was also a winner. They called telling me I had won Ugx 500K worth of fuel.”

“I am really excited to have been one of the lucky winners and because of this I will always be a loyal Shell customer.” She added.

A total of 19,365 customers were rewarded with prizes worth UGX 500M during the campaign. The campaign spread cheer to all regions of Uganda with over 100 Shell stations countrywide participating to ensure convenience for customers across the country.

The inaugural edition of the Miss Uganda – Canada beauty pageant has been launched.

Organised by BigSeal Foundation in partnership with the Miss Uganda Foundation and Uganda High Commission in Canada, the pageant is aimed at celebrating and empowering Ugandan women domiciled in Canada through appreciating their beauty and different talents.

“The Ugandan community in Canada has not been given due attention with other pageants like the Miss Uganda North America,” Kyobe Jack, a representative from the BigSeal Foundation explained. “We want to exhaust all the Ugandan communities and will  be traversing all the provinces in Canada.”

The beauty pageant auditions will take place in the four provinces of Canada, kicking off on 6th June in Ottawa, then 13th June in Toronto, 20th June in Vancouver and 27th June in Edmonton. They will culminate into a grand finale on 4th July in Toronto where the Miss Uganda – Canada beauty queen will be crowned.

“The Miss Uganda franchise under Kezi Entertainment is celebrating 10 years this year and this partnership is very timely as we are now trying to build relationships with the diaspora community,” said Brenda Nanyonjo, the CEO Miss Uganda Foundation . “Our role in the Miss Uganda-Canada pageant will be to mentor the beauty queens and readying them for the big stage.”

The top three finalists will go on to participate in the Miss Canada and Miss Uganda–North America pageants.

They will also be involved in different charity projects in Uganda through the “Beauty with a Purpose” initiative by Quin Abenakyo, a former Miss Uganda and Miss World Africa.

Producer Rinex has withdrawn from Zzina awards after being nominated in the best audio producer category.

The power records producer cites that he is giving platform for younger producers to shine and therefore will not be apart of the awards. He posted “In 2017, we created an association of audio producers in Uganda called APAU and by God’s grace I was elected as the President. Our main mission is to promote love, unity and improve on the creativity of audio producers by sharing ideas.

We achieved this, all I pray is, the love and unity keep growing stronger for the betterment of our industry.

I was nominated in #ZzinnaAwards alongside my fellow brothers.

An award is a token of appreciation for hardwork, @galaxyfm1002 thank you so much for recognizing my hardwork 2019/2020.

With due respect, I would love to dedicate my nomination to my fellow brothers listed below who still need more platform and they have really worked so hard to transform this music industry.

I dedicated my self to nurturing producers since then and by God’s grace they’re making it to the top;

I’m still producing more producers.

Please vote for your favourite producer.

On behalf of APAU, I WOULD LOVE TO CONGRATULATE MY BROTHERS FOR THEIR HARDWORK 2019/2020.

TO OTHER PRODUCERS; THIS IS JUST A AWAKE UP CALL FOR ALL OF US TO PULL UP OUR SOCKS”
