Joel Isabirye scoops juicy deal with Magic 100

Renowned Radio Consultant Joel Isabirye has scooped a lucrative deal with Magic 100 FM.

Isabirye comes in as a partner with David Kazoora, the proprietor of Buddies Events which scooped a management deal with UBC’s Magic 100 FM. He will help re-launch and manage the station as Managing Director.

Since Monday, Isabirye has been visiting Broadcast House the home of UBC to work with the team in anticipation of the launch. The staff of Magic has been undergoing serious training and preparations for the big day when they come on air on Monday, 25th September.

On the line up at Magic are Hakeem and Juliana previously of Radio City, DMS formerly of Hot 100, Vicky Bagaya of NBS TV, Dagy Nyce, Comedian Ronnie Mcvex, Tony Kent, Blayze, Otai, New­s Anchor Hassan Sebatta and DJ Julio.

It remains to be seen if Isabirye will lead struggling Magic 100 to success after a trail of successes at other radio stations.

The Uganda National Museum in partnership with the Ethnographic Museum of Zurich in Switzerland and Igongo Cultural Centre have organised the first milk exhibition in Uganda aiming at engaging the milk community.

The free-entrance exhibition is expected to attract milk lovers, farmers, dairy products dealers, consumers and government officials starting this Friday.

According to Mr Amon Mugume, the project coordinator, the exhibition is to be conducted under the theme, “Drink Deeply” and will be launched on Friday, September 22 and will run until March next year.

“The exhibition will give insights on history, traditions and milk products, indigenous knowledge systems of the communities and process of making milk products,” Mr Mugume said.

Mr Mugume said the exhibition will cover a number of milk-related issues such as milk products, milk process in different parts of the country, handling, preserving and keeping milk safe as well as marketing milk products.

Some of the activities to take place during the opening of the milk exhibition will include a round table discussion which will involve topics such as milk and culture, socio-economic and political issues surrounding milk economy as well as a milk cocktail.

The Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFAs) have received a mega boost.

We have learnt that city tycoon Jack Pemba, through his company, Pemba Sports Africa has injected UGX 100Million in this year’s edition.

Speaking shortly after signing the sponsorship agreement, Jack Pemba said “We want to associate with a ceremony that represents affluence, high-end fashion and cutting-edge innovation. We are thus honoured to be part of the biggest fashion show on the continent.”

Pemba Sports Africa’s sponsorship will introduce and front 3 fashion entities at the forthcoming Abryanz and Style Fashion Awards. They are namely; The SKP (Sheba Kasami Pemba) Fashion line, Saimacuts Saloon and Sumi’s fashion boutique.

The SKP fashion label is owned and run by Jack Pemba’s wife, Sheba Kasami who has carved herself a reputation among the highbrow families of the country for dressing affluent individuals like Mama Mbire, Hon Justin Lumumba, Mrs Bamwanga (Ruhakana Rugunda’s wife,) among others.

The Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards gala will be held on 8th December at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The Rugby Cranes team that will be playing at this year’s Africa Men’s 7s was unveiled at Legends Rugby Club.

The rugby fraternity will be preparing for the Africa Men’s 7s Cup which will be hosted in Kampala on the 6th – 7th October at Legends Rugby Grounds. But first, the Rugby Cranes 7s team will play in this year’s Oktoberfest Tournament in Munich, Germany on the 28th and 29th September.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Rugby Cranes team ahead of the upcoming Oktoberfest and Africa Men’s 7s Cup, Samuel Nikoma, Chairman Organising Committee of the Uganda Rugby Union said; “We are delighted to be hosting the upcoming Africa Men’s 7s Cup as well as having the opportunity to play at the Oktoberfest Tournament in Munich. Our team is ready and we shall put up a worthwhile fight.”

“The Oktoberfest tournament promises to be a very tough and exciting tournament and will pit Uganda against the world’s best teams which is a perfect warm up for the Africa 7s tournament that we host a week later. Eric Kasita retains the captaincy of the team to this event that has 4 changes to the team that played at the last tournament in Hong Kong as the coach looks to get some depth ahead of the Africa 7s in October.” He added.

For the Africa Men’s 7s Cup, the top two teams at the end of this tournament will qualify for the Rugby World Cup 7s tournament to be held in San Francisco in July 2018. The top ranked Commonwealth team will also qualify for the Commonwealth games to be held in Gold Coast in April 2018. In addition, the top two teams will also have a chance to play in the HSBC World Sevens Series Core team qualification tournament in Hong Kong in April 2018 while the
tournament winners will play the 2017 Dubai and Cape Town legs of the HSBS world Rugby Sevens Series.

The Guinness sponsored Rugby Cranes will travel to Germany for the Oktoberfest on 26th September and return on 3rd October ahead of the Africa Men’s 7s Cup. The Oktoberfest Rugby 7s tournament is held in Munich, Germany annually as part of the Germany Oktoberfest festival. This tournament attracts only the top teams in the World. Uganda by virtue of being Africa Champions and by its relationship with the tournament organisers, landed an invite to be part of the top 12 twelve teams that will take part in this tournament.

The Rugby Cranes Men’s 7s team will play in a very tough pool that has England, Argentina and Hosts Germany in pool B. World Series Champions, South Africa headline Pool A and are joined by France, Spain and Portugal while Olympic Champions Fiji are placed in Pool C alongside Australia, Chile and Ireland.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Rugby Cranes Men’s 7s team, Estella Muzito, the Head of Beers at Uganda Breweries Limited said; “We have had an exciting six weeks of 7s rugby and we hope to continue on the same journey. We are delighted to be unveiling our national stars, the Rugby Cranes Men’s Sevens team that will be carrying our flag in Germany at the Oktoberfest tournament as well as playing in the Africa Men’s 7s. We wish them all the best and hope they fight to the end.”

“Guinness will continue being involved in the development of sports in Uganda. Our efforts continue to bring success to the rugby industry as our partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union grows stronger.” She added.

Guinness came into partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union and took on the sponsorship of the Uganda National Sevens team by contributing UGX 200 million to the development of the team and sport. Of the contribution, UGX 100 million was contributed in cash. The renewed partnership is running for the next three years.

According to our trusted sources, the singer is currently cruising a Lexus Harrier in Uganda and she is thinking of importing in her other cars from SA but she is worried they might not be able to be driven on Ugandan poor roads

BBS Terefayina CEO, Joe Kigozi is leaving the TV station.

He recently handed in his resignation from the position of CEO with effect from 15th of October 2017 after serving in that capacity for two years.

Sources close to Kigozi have revealed that he refused to renew his contract because he had accomplished his mission. “He was recruited to create a vibrant and top television in less than two years,” our source revealed. “He decided not to renew his contract because this has been done.”

This was further postulated in his resignation letter where he noted, “It has been a memorable two years of creating a formidable TV brand. BBS Terafayina is ranked among the top five television brands in the country. I have left it as a stable, attractive and fastest growing television brand in Uganda.”

Joe Kigozi is set to return to NBS TV where he previously served as Chief Marketing manager before he took over the helm at BBS Terafayina. He will rejoin NBS TV as Head of Strategy. In his new role, he will help NBS TV extend its footprint across East Africa.

Tanzanian singer Diamond Platinumz has finally shown off his newly born baby with Tanzanian model and video vixen Hamisa Mobetto on social media.

This comes after he confessed that he had cheated on his fiancee Zari Hassan with Hamisa Mobetto in a radio interview on Tanzania’s Clouds FM on Tuesday.  Speaking during the interview, he finally admitted to being the father to Mobeto’s baby boy, Abdul Latif Naseeb Abdul Juma, finally confirming rumours that have dogged the singer for a while now.

He also revealed that he can not disown his own blood and has been offering financial support to Mobetto.

Soon after the interview, the singer took to social to share a video showing his new bundle of joy. He simply captioned it, “young lion”.

Socialite Zari Hassan is not happy with her fiance Diamond Platnumz.

This after he publicly admitted to cheating on Zari with Tanzanian model and video vixen Hamisa Mobetto who recently gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

Diamond was speaking during  a radio interview on Tanzania’s Clouds FM on Tuesday where he finally admitted to being the father to Mobeto’s baby boy, Abdul Latif Naseeb Abdul Juma, finally confirming rumours that have dogged the singer for a while now.

He also revealed that he can not disown his own blood and has been offering financial support to Mobetto, further noting that Zari was already aware of this.

Reacting to the interview, Zari denied knowing about Diamond fathering a child with another woman. “The lies you telling about me knowing about your side chic…try and fix your mess and stop with the lies.” She posted online.

She went on to add that she is already putting all this behind her and focusing on other positive things.

“When a person chooses to cheat on you it’s not YOU actually its THEM which usually turns out that they played themselves while they thought they are playing you. You should never look down on yourself, don’t ever think you are worthless because of another person’s mistake & never blame yourself. But always look at how to pick yourself up and get going. That said, with my birthday approaching let’s put all this negative energy behind us and appreciate, LIFE!” She added.

The former NTV presenter who reportedly ran mad recently has been checked into rehab. This comes after he shocked the nation when he was spotted running on the streets stark naked in one the Kampala suburbs in a video that has now gone viral on social media.

Sources have revealed that Dave has been a longtime user of drugs, and it is believed that his recent odd behaviour was due to drug abuse.

Ugandan makeup artiste Monalisa Umutoni, professionally known as Mona Faces held her first makeup master class recently at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala.

The two-day master class experience featured makeup tutorials and trials  from the makeup queen, as well as skin care and maintain tips offered by Dr. Malik Sempereza of Unity Skin Clinic, and Business talk from Africa Elevation, Neli Siwematte.

Later, the face beat queen hosted her guests and celebrity friends that included celebrity stylist Brian Ahumuza, Singer A Pass, Bettinah Tianah, Sheila Gashumba and many others to a cocktail party, courtesy of the Ultra-Premium Vodka, Ciroc. The guests who turned up dressed to the nines in different fashionable pieces were treated to exquisite Ciroc Infused cocktails, including the customized “Mona Magic” Cocktail, which was created by the makeup queen.

Musician Ronald Maro is gearing up for his mega concert this weekend.

Dubbed “Nzira Nago” concert, the “Kamboyine” singer has jetted in international artistes for his show. He unveiled the artistes at a press conference held on Wednesday. He will be accompanied by Naiboi, Proff and Frasha from Kenya, Denmark’s Joanita Zack and Shane Palko from USA alongside several other local artistes including Geosteady among others.

Speaking at the press conference, Maro also revealed that he started his preparations about six months ago and this involved several activities that included a football tournament.

“This year, we also involved local masses in the concert preparations. We had a month-long football tournament where my team, ‘Team Maro’ faced off with the local teams in the 10 districts in Busoga region.” He revealed.

He further promised to perform all songs off his recently released “Atwooki” album as well as some of his most popular singles.

The “Nzira Nago” concert is slated for Saturday, September 23 at the Jinja Dam waters rugby grounds. Tickets for the concert go for 10K and 30K(VIP).

Reggae star Tarrus Riley is coming to Uganda.

We have learnt that the Jamaican-American singer will stage a mega concert in Uganda late this year.

The 38-year-old singer, who is popular for songs like “Gimme Lickle One drop”, “Dont come back”, “She’s royal”, and “Just the way you are” among others,  is expected to jet in with his entire band for the show.

The concert will be held at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala on 1st December, 2017.

The Uganda Travel Month, a domestic tourism drive, is back!

The tourism initiative by  The Pearl Guide Uganda, a local tourism marketing firm, returns for its 2nd edition during the month of October.

The 2017 edition was launched at a ceremony held at Prunes Restaurant on Wednesday evening where one of the guests walked away with a Uganda Travel Month ticket following a raffle draw.

Speaking at the launch, Philip Kalibwani of The Pearl Guide emphasized the need for Ugandans to get involved in telling their own tourism story.

“It is time to get Ugandans involved in telling our own tourism stories, and Uganda Travel Month is that opportunity.” He noted.

The Uganda Travel Month offers Ugandans an opportunity to tour and experience different local tourist attractions across the country through a 4 week circuit at discounted fees.

This year’s edition will start in Jinja on September 30, and then head to Lake Bunyonyi during the Independence weekend, and later Queen Elizabeth in Kasese, and end in Murchison Falls on 21st October. The touring groups will indulge in different fun activities like water rafting, zip-lining, and game drives among others.

Uganda Travel Month is supported by Nile Special, Total Excellium, and Radiocity.

Bebe Cool impresses in Coke Studio Episode 2

This week on Coke Studio Africa, Uganda’s Bebe Cool impressed viewers when he performed his version of Falz’s ‘bahd baddo baddest’ hit song, successfully adding a reggae feel to the originally hip hop song.

Nigerian artiste Falz also went out of his usual rap character and sang to Bebe Cool’s smash hit “Love you every day”. Both tracks were produced by Nigerian producer Gospelondebeatz, mainly known for producing successful songs with artists like Patoranking, Wizkid and Yemi Alade.

Episode 2 also saw Ghanaian hip-life phenomenon Joey B and South African Afro-pop sensation Amanda Black, work together on the Coke Studio Africa Throwback, and Ghana’s newest star, Worlasi, working with Nigerian success story Chidinma, and Kenyan supergroup Sauti Sol to perform this week’s Big Break.

Coke Studio Africa is a non-competitive music collaboration show, which seeks to bring together, and celebrate the diversity of African music and talent. It also gives upcoming artistesthe opportunity to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent. It brings together artistes from different genres, eras and regions to create a modern and authentic African sound through musical fusion.

This season marks the first time that the beverage giant has merged Coke Studio Africa and Coke Studio South Africa into one, bigger and better show, consequently increasing the number of participating countries to 16, up from 11 in previous edition.
