The Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has announced a partnership with Development Infrastructure Limited aimed at taking motorsport to the West Nile sub-region.

The landmark partnership was sealed with the signing of an MoU during an event that was held at Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi, Kampala on Tuesday.

As part of the partnership, Development Infrastructure Limited will provide the financial muscle to build a motorsport facility in Arua while the federation will mostly provide legal and technical guidance to ensure the facility meets local and FIA standards.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dipu Ruparelia, the FMU president revealed that the partnership is a step towards taking motorsport to all parts of country and encouraging more participation by the masses.

“This partnership is in line with our strategic plan to take motorsport to all parts of the country in a bid to promote grass root participation as well as bring motorsport as a form of entertainment closer to all Ugandans.” Said Dipu Ruparelia.

The facility will be located 5Kms out of Arua town and will be sitting on 15 acres of land. The project is expected to cost in excess of Ugx 7 billion and will be designed to host motorsport events in all disciplines including rallying, motorcycling, drifting and karting among others.

“We have already secured the land for the facility and will start on the development later this month,” Joel Aita, the managing director at Development Infrastructure revealed. “We hope to host at least one competition in Arua before this year ends.”
