A man has been charged with two counts of threatening to kill Joy Doreen Bira, a news anchor with Standard Group’s KTN.
Lawrence Nyamao alias Kepha Boundi allegedly issued the threats through SMS on January 15, at unknown place in Nairobi.
One of the messages he allegedly sent using his phone read in part: “Huna bahati hapa kazini. Wewe ukufe ama Aroni atoke ndani…”
This loosely translates to: “You are not lucky at work. The options are for you to die or for Aaron to get out of jail.”
Nyamao denied the charges before Milimani chief resident magistrate Francis Andayi on Friday, and was freed on Ksh500,000 bond or Ksh300,000 cash bail.
Last month, KTN’s news editor Aaron Obudho was charged before a Nairobi court with stealing Biira’s car.
Obudho was arrested on December 30, 2016 in Kisumu and later transferred to Industrial Area police station in Nairobi.
His charge sheet stated that he stole a Ksh2.8 million Mercedes Benz class E 220, registration KBY 831 K, from Standard Group’s premises along Mombasa Road in Nairobi. It was said that he worked with accomplices.
Obudho is said to have been found with the car at Kondele Shopping Centre in Kisumu.
He denied two counts of stealing the car and handling stolen property.
Milimani senior principal magistrate Joyce Gandani granted him Ksh1 million bond or Ksh300,000 cash bail.
