It was a sold out show at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Saturday evening as Reggae music star Maxi Priest thrilled revelers at the 9th edition of the annual Nile Gold Jazz & Soul Safari concert.

Themed “Jazz-Funk and Lovers Rock”, Jazz and soul music lovers who started trickling in to the spacious stadium as early as 3pm when the gates were opened, got their money’s worth as Maxi Priest staged a thrilling and energetic  two-hour performance.

Dressed in black quarter pants, red shoes and a hat with his knee-long dreads dangling, Maxi stepped on stage to loud cheers from the ecstatic crowd at 10:40pm following a dazzling display of skill from trumpeter Lin Rountree and saxophonist Jackiem Joyner on their respective instruments.

Performing his hit songs like “Wild World”, “Close to you”, “A Little bit longer”, and “House Call” among others, he had revelers up on their feet, singing and dancing along. He engaged the crowd occasionally asking; “Uganda, are you feeling irie? Muli Bulungi?“, in a bid to perk up the crowd.

Meanwhile, the title sponsors Nile Gold also used the concert to unveil the beer’s new look.
