Reggae sensations Peetah Morgan and Mojo Morgan of the musically acclaimed band – Morgan Heritage, were in the country, at Ciello Lounge, Kololo, for the listeners party of their latest album – The Homeland.

To pull off such a grandeur album listeners party, the group partnered with eminent event organizers and booking agency – Talent Africa, in partnership with Cielo Lounge. The zero-charge event attracted a weighty number of reggae music enthusiasts, who filled up the venue by 9:00pm.
As many geared up for a thrilling night, DJ Cisse set the mood right for a perfect reggae do, playing a lot of the old music by Morgan Heritage.
Peetah and Mojo Morgan made their way into the venue at 10:30pm, flunked by Talent Africa Group CEO – AlyAllibhai, before shortly enganging in one-on-one sessions with members of the press. Clad in an all-green African fabric attire, Mojo, indeed, looked like he was ready for a listeners’ party in the land of Africa.

The party brought together some noteworthy names in Uganda’s art industry, too, some of whom included Uganda National Cultural Centre Board Chairman – Sam Okello, Isaac Rucci of Limit X, musicians A Pass, Vampino, Atlas Da African and Producer Dan Magic among others.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, without further ado, let us give it up for Peetah and Mojo,’’ said Charlie Denzel, the MC of the night, followed with a laud applaud from the crowd, as the two Jamaicans took to the stage with grandeur.
Mojo kicked off the listeners’ party with a brief background ofthe group, and how deeply their origin is rooted in Africa, hence the need to have an album listeners’ party in Uganda.

“A lot of people have been asking us, lately, why Uganda for our album listeners’ party, and the truth is, it was important for us to connect with Africa and by coming here, we feel this is achieved. If you guys endorse us and this album tonight, then we have achieved our purpose,’’ said Mojo
He added that, “The Homeland album is a tribute to ourancestry and motherland – Africa. That is why we decided to feature and work with various artists from across Africa, just to get a rich feel of what it means to be back home and back to one’s roots,’’
The 21-track album features an array of songs that speak toadvocacy for African rights and freedom, unity, love for one’s homeland, all woven into the basics of reggae music.
A song like – Bambulele, which Mojo and DJ Cisse kicked off with, is derived from a Zulu term which means Never Give Up. This, according to Mojo, was intended to remind Africans of the need to keep fighting for their rights and freedom.
Next was track 2 on the album, titled Can you feel It. This features Ethiopian musician Rophnan Nuri, whom during their African tour, Mojo says they got to realize how good and big he was in Ethiopia, hence working with him for diversity. The song is upbeat dancehall with reggae undertones to it, which can easily get everyone grooving.
What was even more exciting during the night was when Mojo introduced the next song, featuring Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo. Boy did this get the crowd worked up! The song titled Long To Be Home, speaks of moving to a foreign landand finding utmost peace there, and feeling at home.
Kenzo is also featured on another song off the album, titled U Got To See The World.
While Mojo did most of the talking, Peetah sat besides him deeply feeling the music as it played off the album. On many occasions, he was seen nodding his head, stamping his feet, and eyes closed, in profound admiration of every song.
The icing on the cake for lovers and supporters of Ugandan music was when Ready, a song that features Jose Chameleon was played. In the song, Chameleon opens with his signature hoarse voice, in a verse that embodies who exactly he is musically. If this song cannot get you dancing, then it is hard to fathom which one can.
The duo also worked with reggae legend from Ivory Coast – Alpha Blondy, on a song titled Remember. This deep roots-reggae song reminds us of how far we have come as a people, especially African people, from the days of slavery to modern day challenges and how we mitigate them.
Remember will also take you back to the old Morgan Heritagemusic, especially with songs like Tell Me How Come off their 2005 album – Full Circle.
The Homeland album also features other artists like Popcaan, Shatta Wale, Busy Signal, Beenie Man, Youssou N’Dour, Shaggy, Bounty Killer, Stonebouy, Esh and Jemere Morgan among many others.
The party was climaxed at midnight, leaving the crowd yearning for more. However, as he closed, Mojo rallied everyone to download, stream and buy the album when it officially gets released on Friday, April 21, 2023.
He also hinted at the possibility of having the group coming back to Uganda for a live performance, later this year. The event will be organized with partnership with Morgan Heritage Event partners in Uganda – Talent Africa, and as always, this promises nothing short of a stellar output.
In the meantime, Peetah and Mojo are still in the country majorly preparing for music video shooting sessions with artists Jose Chameleon and Eddy Kenzo for their respective songs off the album.
