AIDO Network launches in Uganda

By Our Reporter

AIDO Network International, a non-profit organization seeking to revive respect for and pride in Africa’s traditional values through culture as a tool for unity, development and social cohesion, has launched in Uganda.

The organization was officially launched last Thursday at an event held at City Royal Hotel, Bugolobi in Kampala.

AIDO Uganda aims to use culture as a vehicle to stimulate development by linking cultural institutions to potential investors in the diaspora; promoting their initiatives and connecting them to AIDO Network worldwide.

Speaking during the launch, James Dombo, an official from the Office of the Prime Minister who was representing First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga, commended AIDO for promoting intercultural relations and exchanges, and noted that cultural identity is of paramount importance in stimulating active participation of communities in the development of the country.

“AIDO is a unique organization whose purpose of enabling people to stay in touch with their culture regardless of location resonates well with Government of Uganda’s desire to keep in touch with the citizens in the diaspora and all culture loving people of the world. Regardless of who you are, cultural identity is important because it is our pride.” James Dombo said.

He further noted that, “AIDO is at the intersection of culture, development and social change. This means that culture informs development work and promotes investment in programmes and activities that are relevant, impactful and deliver lasting change.”

AIDO Network now has a presence in 12 countries. Others include Germany, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, South Sudan, Togo, Eswatini, Cameroon, USA, and the United Kingdom where its headquarters are located.
